“Golden Domers vs. Mobile Homers”: Notre Dame Fans Keeping it Classy
All, College Football December 27th. 2012, 11:30am
These unofficial Notre Dame t-shirts may be making the rounds during the BCS Title Game in Miami. Resorting to mentioning socioeconomic disparity, when facing an implacable threat, may be the most rich Catholic school fan move ever. Bonus points for it not even being accurate in well-heeled Alabama’s case.
Notre Dame has novelty, not having been relevant for a long time, underdog status and a relatively likable team, though the “long suffering Irish fans” will make this team cultivating a 1996 Yankees vibe very hard.

why the FUCK would anyone go see the les miserables in theaters? a) there’s gotta be better versions out there, b) hugh jackman and anne hathaway aren’t charismatic in the slightest, c) it’s been DONE A MILLION FUCKING TIMES BEFORE, d) is there a point to seeing musical theater that isn’t performed live?, e) im sure they surrender at the end.

The ’96 Yankees had a bit of a sympathy vote as the Yankees hadn’t won a World Series in 18 years prior to ’96. Not only that, those Atlanta teams were not very likeable to anyone who wasn’t a Braves fan.

“My Cousin Vinny” was on one of the HBO channels last night. I tuned in for the opening Alabama-is-a-hillbilly-shithole montage, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan on making that the closest I ever come to the state

Catching a shit ton of really well-pitched games in the 2005 playoffs has to be up there. Dunno how much credit he gets for calling the games and his defense though?

Hey, where’s the spoiler alert.
December 27th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
i actually have never see the actual thread, but a commenter named coop told a story of kissing a guy, so any gay allusions are followed by that tag
December 27th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Sure, but only because it’s a slow day.
Coop was a commenter who admitted that he kissed a guy in order to get two girls to kiss. It was the staunch defense of his action that solidified his meme as the gay meme. The meme has gotten so big, it’s forced him to enter the Commenter Protection Program.

December 27th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
yep, that was a tough read. All of his books have a dark element to them but The Road is the darkest. I could barely finish it but I had to find out what happened to the Kid.

I find McCarthy’s writing style to be difficult to begin with (it always takes me a bit to get used to his prose when I start one up) and then that book was just a killer with how it ended. read it right after my daughter was born. not the recommended time to read that one…
December 27th, 2012 at 1:07 PM
As a Xmas present, my dad gave me his collection of saved newspapers, Life Magazines and assorted stuff from the Apollo lunar landings. Definitely gonna get one of the papers framed.

The Road is a piece of cake compared to Blood Meridian, another book of his. The book was a chore to read. Not kidding. The story itself was compelling, but holy God was a it an exercise in patience.

It isn’t performed live but the singing was recorded live while acting with no voiceovers or anything of that nature, so the singing is raw like it would be at a broadway play. Hathaway did very well and probably had the best performance (or Samantha Barks). Jackman was pretty good but the worst was by far Crowe. Most of the cast (minus the stars) were in the 10th and 25th anniversary broadway shows and they were outstanding. To your point, I mostly agree and wouldn’t see it if I didn’t thoroughly enjoy Les Mis.
