San Diego Chargers Would Like You to Know None of Their Players Were Selected to the Pro Bowl
The Chargers did not have a player selected to Pro Bowl.
— San Diego Chargers (@chargers) December 27, 2012
It’s always fun to mock the puzzling logic that goes into Pro Bowl selections each and every year (entire rosters for the AFC and NFC are here), but there are very few NFL fans out there who actually care which players get voted into the storied exhibition, making it impressively asinine of the San Diego Chargers to put in the extra effort and highlight the fact that none of their players were voted in.
A flaccid record of 6-9 to go along with the depressing reality of immovable force Norv Turner, the Banker’s Club vodka of professional football coaches, is really, really quite enough.

I challenge the Chargers to make a compelling case for a single player of theirs to make the NFL all-star team. I am all ears.
December 26th, 2012 at 8:31 PM
The Chiefs got five players in. And even though this is one of the worst teams in the league, I can’t argue against four of them. Derrick Johnson is a fucking beast. Charles needs no excuse. Neither does Colquitt. I’d listen to an argument against Hali. The Chiefs should’t be this bad.
Disclaimer… Not a Chiefs fan at all.
December 26th, 2012 at 8:32 PM
Did the Lions get anyone in besides the obvious?
December 26th, 2012 at 8:34 PM
The Chiefs should’t be this bad.
I take that back. There was an article in the KC Star today wondering why Ricky Stanzi never got a shot this year. I retract my prior statement.
December 26th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
Eric Berry making the pro-bowl is strange to me. It’s not like this is a rep pick or anything…..what has he done to be a pro-bowler? He only had one pick this year. Had a lot of tackles but not more than Jordan Babineaux or Bernard Pollard.
December 26th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
thanks for the earlier comment, KC. I’ve never heard of the term “snot slinger,” which is one i’ve never heard.
been a fun few days so far
December 26th, 2012 at 9:24 PM
thanks for the earlier comment, KC. I’ve never heard of the term “snot slinger,” which is one i’ve never heard.
Ha. No disrespect. Just a parent knowing parent thing. My kid has been sick with one thing or another since October. He hadn’t been sick at all (doctor visit for antibiotics) in almost two years. I’ve got a snot slinger now. His whole school was sick it seemed prior to Christmas break. Anyhow, enjoy the new baby. As you know, they grow fast, but it speeds up once they get their thoughts and voice together. About 4, 5, and 6.
December 26th, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Agreed.
Oh, mine was going to be against Berry.
December 26th, 2012 at 10:59 PM
I’d listen to an argument against Hali.
Oh, mine was going to be against Berry.
I just think Berry did what he was supposed to. Be ignored because he was good at his job.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
That is an impressive analogy.

Kamchatka would a word on this discussion.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
kinda sad tj ward and alex mack didn’t make it…how the fuck does maurkice pouncey keep making pro bowls? he hasn’t been as good as mack the past three seasons…this is getting fucking annoying.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
If Norv is the Banker’s Club Vodka of NFL coaches, I can only guess the Kamchatka vodka of coaches is Romeo Crennel.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Honestly, a single tweet from the team that simply states that no Chargers got in. No real emotion or emphasis. That doesn’t seem to be whining or complaining at all. Big Deal.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
re: maurkice pouncey from PFF…
he’s having his best season yet according to the guys that catalog every snap, and yet, he’s still only mediocre and the best thing that can be said about him is “he’s been making some bigger contributions in the run game.”
what a player! god damned fucking steelers, go the fuck away.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
romeo crennel is like the white russian of football coaches…sounds better than he really is, fairly ineffective at doing what they’re supposed to, sweet but nauseating, and only well known because a legend carried them around (belichick and the dude).
December 27th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Then who is Kentucky Deluxe?
December 27th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
chan gailey. i mean, at least it’ll get you drunk/coach your football team.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
the argument against crennel being the white russian though is that there is a decent amount of people that actually like them, I don’t think there are that many people that like crennel, as a coach at least.
December 27th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
I suppose this is the roundup? I’m stuck at work again with absolutely nothing to do. Anyone have any good time wasting sites I can peruse?
December 27th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
jim schwartz has to be cheap tequila.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
I thought the same thing. Certainly not worthy of being called out.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
everyone’s like “romeo! great guy!” “white russians! great drink!”
but when push comes to shove…you ordering a russian romeo? nyet.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
Amen. I was extremely happy when they lost and were eliminated from the postseason Sunday.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:03 AM
I’m always a big fan of people complaining about a game that means nothing, and half the people selected don’t even show up.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
are you talking about the pro bowl or chargers games?
December 27th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Jeff Saturday made it and he was benched last week, I thought we all agreed to stop caring about Pro Bowl selections
December 27th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
It’s year end profit sharing time! Going to be sweet this year, about 37% of my regular salary.

Is Dennis Allen Mad Dog 2020? He is cheap and inneffective
December 27th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
why the fuck would i agree to taht?
December 27th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
It comes across as very deflated. Chargers fans have agreed in its sad stupidity.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
he’s o’douls.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Wow. Does it come in the form of pay or put into your 401k? My last job did a profit share that went right into your 401k.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
The best time wasting site is TheChive.com although there are NSFWish pics. Nothing really worse than Roundup pics though, just cleavage and pantie shots, etc.

pssh…the best time wasting site is virtualnes.com and it’s not even close.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
At least the Pro Bowl selection is not the NBA’s. I think Yao Ming and Allen Iverson are still the leadng vote getters for the 10th year in a row.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Derek Jeter is the Kahlua & Cream of baseball.
You’re not really sure what color it is and it used to be good, but not so much anymore.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Considering how they make all the jerseys it’s only fair to give China greater All-Star Game voting rights
December 27th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
pssh…the best time wasting site is
virtualnes.com and it’s not even close.
Also good.
True story, I have 2 original NES systems at home and about 100 games, some duplicates. I basically have every good NES game. I really do need to bust them out and play, haven’t touched them in about 3 years.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:14 AM

December 27th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Comes in the form on an extra payroll check. I suppose you could put the entire thing in 401k but I’ll be using it to pay down debt and probably put a chunk into college savings.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
Disagree, if only because if you’re at work you’re likely using IE, and The Chive’s 1998 website is hell on IE.

I do have Bubble Bobble, also Burger Time. And Double Dragon.
Hope this turns in to an in-depth NES discussion thread.

Wife and I used a good chunk of her big bonus checks this year to pay off a ton of debt. Sure makes life easier when you have a lot less going out each month. Definitely made it easier for me to leave a job I despised and take a slight paycut to move into a new career opportunity.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
little league world series used to be one of my favorite NES games…there was another baseball game where you players as robots and you could give your hitters/pitchers special abilities but I can’t remember its name.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
I never had a NES growing up. Used to play at friend’s houses, but never had one of my own. We were a Sega household.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
I’ve done a little googling and I may be thinking of Baseball Simulator 1.000 and with no robots involved
December 27th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
No doubt. Between that and a refinance that should close in January, things should get a little easier around here.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
I think you’re combining Baseball Simulator and Base Wars.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Baseball Stars was a good NES baseball game too.
Sega Genesis was awesome just because of Altered Beast and Sonic.
My votes for best NES games are Legend of Zelda, Punch-Out, and Final Fantasy III although these are mostly for nostalgia reasons.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:34 AM
Both favorites of mine. On the original Sega, it was Alex Kidd in Miracle World.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:37 AM
We just did refinanced too. Shortened our term, lowered our payment and rate. Wish we would have done it sooner.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Loved Nintendo, but didn’t go the Super Nintendo route. Genesis took over with NHL ’94 and I never looked back.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
kung fu for NES is an all-time great.
there’s one game i played a ton as a kid, but can’t remember the name of it…in any event, i get visuals very similar to this game whenever i eat mushrooms. it’s awesome.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
NHL 94 and NBA Live 95 cant be beat. Another fun game was General Chaos
December 27th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Zelda, Super Mario 3, Dragon Warrior
Severly underrated: R/C Pro-Am
December 27th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
first ninja turtles game for NES was great too. contra. duck hunt.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
we had Intellevision when I was a kid, but I was a kid a long, long time ago.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
Kung Fu was such an awesome game, and easy to beat so it made you feel good.
Growing up in Texas we had no idea what hockey was, but man did I ever love playing Blades of Steel and all NHL games.
I have a Super Nintendo as well but I don’t have Super Mario World so it’s pretty much useless.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
I was definitely doing that…thanks for finding Base Wars. Both were awesome games
December 27th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Man, I loved that game. If I remember correctly Latrell Sprewell was money from the arc.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Little League Baseball too
December 27th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Chris Jackson aka Mukmud Abdul Rayuf? was unstoppable
December 27th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
they had this skiing game that, no matter what, you got eaten by a bear. loved that game.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
was there more than one game for Intellevision? I remember the one where you built army’s and cities and stuff, but beyond that I don’t remember a single other game.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:50 AM
Oh, and Castlevania was awesome too.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
R/C Pro-Am is awesome along with Excite Bike.
I also loved Master Blaster and the first Simpsons game where you collect all the purple items, then all the hats, etc.
Krusty’s Funhouse was a crappy game though, and really hard.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Favorite NES Sports games: Punch-out, RBI Baseball, R/C Pro-Am, Double Dribble, Kung-Fu, Track & Field (with the PowerPad of course)
/I never owned Tecmo Bowl
December 27th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
Blaster Master
December 27th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
I didn’t play a whole lot of non-sports Nintendo games. However, River City Ransom was awesome. My brother and I would play the good guys and go around kicking ass in this game.

!
December 27th, 2012 at 9:57 AM
That was a favorite in college. We eventually wore out the powerpad and had to go back to just using the controllers.
December 27th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
I didn’t get into football until later in my youth, and by then I had SNES, and the most gloriously generic football game ever created. You could play as HS, college, or NFL teams.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
totally forgot about punch out…for shame.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Tecmo Super Bowl is the game I spent the most hours playing, except maybe Zelda. I would play with the Oilers and get the top spot in every statistic except punting cause I would never punt.
If I was ever losing a game, I just hit reset.
If you chose a middle lineback as the player you control on defense you could rush in between two O-linemen and get a sack almost ever play. That was my strategy on D.
I had a friend whose strategy was to control a safety and try to intercept every pass. We must have played thousands of games against each other, and this was in like 1999. I had a Playstation but we always played NES instead.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
I love video games on all formats. Some good ones were Tony Larussa baseball, John Elway Football, BattleToads, Captain Planet
December 27th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Ronnie Lott. Beast.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
NARC on NES was a good one as well
December 27th, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Oh and remember Russian Attack? Cold war gaming was awesome.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:06 AM
There was a football game for Intellivision, which at the time was way better than the Atari 2600 football.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:07 AM
was there more than one game for Intellevision? I remember the one where you built army’s and cities and stuff, but beyond that I don’t remember a single other game.
there were lots. It was the first football game with options, I think. You could choose 1-9 on your controller keypad for games. And there were versions of all the games.
But, like spencer said, there was no game better than intellivision skiing. You could kick all the ass you wanted till the snow monster ate you, but the snow monster was definitely eating you, every single run.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Ronnie Lott was indeed a beast, along with Bo Jackson, Thurman Thomas, Montana, and Warren Moon. What an awesome game.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Intellivision had Baseball and Football also. Played lots of both
December 27th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Tommy Lasorda baseball and the PGA Tour game, both on Sega Genesis, were great.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
I first got into video games because I went to some lady’s house for afterschool daycare, and she had an older son with an Atari. We played Gauntlet and Spy Hunter over and over.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
RBI.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Yes. Subtly named “Rush’n Attack.” That game was great.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Spy Hunter was an awesome arcade game. I didn’t think it translated that well to the home systems.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
totally forgot about R/C Pro-Am. loved that game.

8 year old me didn’t seem to mind.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
dude, you have no idea the amount of money i spent playing asteroids. bowling alleys, drug stores, etc. Maddening damn game.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
A friend of my wife works at a bar that has an Asteroids arcade game and a Pac-Man game. I have spent many hours and quarters there recently. Also, Operation Wolf.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
If we’re going arcade, the discussion begins and ends with Rampage. A pizza parlor had one, and I used to make my dad drive out of his way to go there so I could play it.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
fixed
December 27th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
I played Rampage a few weeks back at a really cool arcade. Great game. The arcade is awesome, it’s BYOB and has a ton of old and new games and crappy arcade food like nachos.
My dog is named Rampage, too.
December 27th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
was looking for asteroids for the kindle the other day. didn’t pull trigger because of reviews. there should be a pc/laptop version no?
December 27th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
A buddy of mine used to have a NBA Jam arcade machine at his place. we tried to beat the game but it gets ridiculously cheap/difficult to beat after about 3 quarters of a way through the teams
