Hawaii Bowl: Fresno State vs. SMU
Fresno State: A very solid debut for Tim DeRuyter. The Bulldogs went 9-3, only losing at Oregon, at Boise State and at a 10-win Tulsa team. The Big East took notice.
SMU: SMU is a mediocre Conference USA team during an abysmal Conference USA season. Yes, they upset 10-win Tulsa to earn a bowl trip. The rest of their wins came against Stephen F. Austin, UTEP, Houston, Memphis and Southern Miss.
Notable Players: Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, brother of David, had a fine season throwing for more than 3,700 yards and 36 touchdowns while finishing ninth in the nation in passing efficiency. He’s coming back for his senior year and may be a dark horse 2013 Heisman candidate. His counterpart, former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert, continued his Longhorn form. There’s also the Bulldogs’ All-American cornerback Phillip Thomas, who led the nation in interceptions.
Surfing: Tim DeRuyter allowed his players to surf. June Jones did not. Whatever the result, it will be directly attributable to this.
Recreational Prediction: Fresno State [-11]. Travel and the layoff should effect both teams equally. Fresno is a much better team. Bowl Record ATS: 4-2

84 bowl games, and we couldn’t get even one between the hours of 11am and 3pm Central today? Christ, my dad was watching post-Barney Andy Griffith’s when I got to my parents house today. What happened to you, ESPN, you used to be cool.

Since ESPN wrestled all but 2 bowl games away from CBS and Fox, they gotta spread it out over four weeks. No overlapping bowls games anymore.
I’m going to be jonesing for something other than NBA tomorrow. There used to be a bowl game on Christmas (Aloha.) I watched and enjoyed many a meaningless Christmas Day bowl game.

Just checking my work. Yep, Two non-ABC/ESPN bowls. Sun and Cotton. And there is a slight overlap a couple times between ESPN and ABC games.

Disgusting. New Years Day used to be so great, 3 bowl games on at any given moment from 11am until 8 or 9 at night.
But hey, the Slick Eddy’s Bailbonds and Shoe Repair Bowl on December 11th pulls a 0.5 share, so what the hell.

Zach Line is the next Mike Alstott: both in terms of talent and likely career length.

Hunt is a bad man but still very raw even after four years. He’ll probably be drafted if he declares. Could potentially have a nice little pro career.

Good for you. I don’t care what the non-sayers say. I love the bowl games.
/Had Fresno at 30 in this one.

Fuck ESPN. Every second of programming they have besides actual games in unwatchable.

Agreed KC. I didn’t think much of us heading into this game but June seems to really prep us well for bowl games.

Garrett Gilbert shows the most bizarre inconsistency in touch. He just dropped that TD pass in beautifully but has been under throwing wide open receivers all night.
December 24th, 2012 at 10:22 PM
Derek Carr meanwhile is going to get his receivers killed with throws like that.
December 24th, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Carr also looks like he has eyeliner on.

Eat shit Fresno.
December 24th, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Garret Gilbert is still alive?

SMU came ready to play. Good for them, this gonna be a nice win (and ms621), especially as they not given a chance in this game. Who on here said over the weekend that their best guess for picking bowl winners, was the better coach? June Jones is proving it tonite.
I didn’t bet this game simply because I hadnt watched either team more than 1-2 this year and also comments from ms621. I love those helmets, always have, especially in the early 80′s when they had the Pony Express. They are iconic and hope they never change.
Also wanted to let roastbeast that I’m glad I didn’t post any “guaratees” this weekend for him. I was atrocious and was down big last nite until my friend told me to take SEA for a lock. Glad I did, I loved SF, since Kaepernick hadnt played in the 1st game. Got some of my money back. Yesterday was like a Seinfeld episode, everything I took/loved was the opposite.
Alas, it’s time to put Christmas presents out for my kids and get to bed. Wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you enjoy the season with family and friends and that next year will better than the last.
Good nite.

merry christmas, tbl brothers. time to sleep at the top of the stairs to make sure wee ones don’t sneak downstairs. a tradition like no other
December 25th, 2012 at 1:18 AM
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment he must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blixen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the housetop the coursers they flew
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too—
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a pedler just opening his pack.
His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a broad face and a little round belly
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
Happy Christmas everyone out there in TBL land
