No prob. Actually in the works of planning a bachelor/golf trip for mid to late Spring myself. In the process found a website called vrbo.com – vacation rentals by owner. Dunno your group size or what’s offered in the area but it saved my group some coin going directly through the owner.

sctrojans, yeah I was looking for some secondary courses. For me I am just looking for value, recomendations and places to avoid; I’m casting a wide net. I don’t have to play the #2, I have a chance now and then to play some nice tracks. This trip would be more of a kickoff to the summer after the NE Ohio winter.

I am doing some long-range planning for a trip the Pinehurst area. Any advice?

Parents live down there so when I play it’s usually with the Pops picking up the guest fee and he doesn’t stray too far from the ‘official’ Pinehurst courses. I’ve played a few others down there but I can give a scouting report on the ‘resort’ courses…

No’s 1,3,4,5 won’t set you back too hard (around 100ish but if you’re traveling for a golf trip I wouldn’t consider that too bad) and the resort runs a deal where they hack a good deal off a second round of the day. Think it applies to the Deuce as your second round, as well – wanna say it’s 500ish a round but they cut it to 250 if it’s the second round of the day. Gotta take a caddy for the Deuce (you can cart but it’s paths only and the caddies are great company). 1′s probably my favorite – fun and fair course – and 4 runs you right around the Deuce (which right now is kinda cool as they’re working on it in prep for the Opens in a few years. Course is certainly open but they’re tacking on teeboxes 50 yards behind the public ones.

As for the play the resort courses are set up for a 14 to not walk off hating the game and a 4 getting half a chub on most of their shots because there are several different shots you can play from almost every tee and second shot lie.

As for entertainment – in the village Dugan’s Pub is fairly solid and if you venture out Pure Gold is a decent titty bar. Everybody and their brother on trips seems to go eat at the Lobsteer Inn or The Barn – not a fan of either so I don’t recommend. Pinehurst shuts down earlyish but I think Southern Pines bars stay open to normal 1 or 2am times.

Final word – cops don’t fuck around down there. There’s no crime to speak of and most of the residents are home by 7pm so they start pulling left and right. Walk or cab.
