Poinsettia Bowl: BYU vs. San Diego State
Bowl: Poinsettia
Toasting Town: San Diego, CA
Vintage: 2005
Former conference foes (and perhaps future Big East/MWC/Other ones) face off in the Poinsettia Bowl. This game does not have huge national import, though it is a big one for San Diego State. The Aztecs are playing a large (at least in perception) program at home. They have reached their third-straight bowl for the first time in school history and are shooting for their first 10-win season since 1977.
SDSU would enjoy getting one over on BYU, who capitalized on a terrible no fumble call to beat them by a field goal in 2010.
Defense: San Diego State has a good offense. BYU has one of the nation’s premier defenses. The Cougars, led by linebacker Kyle Van Noy, finished sixth nationally in yards allowed per play. They were second to Alabama against the run, conceding just 2.71 yards per carry.
Quarterback: BYU’s quarterback situation remains a question, at least in public. Riley Nelson hurt his ribs against San Jose State and is still recovering. His backup, another senior James Lark, threw for 384 yards and six touchdowns in his stead, though that was against New Mexico State. The assumption is we’ll see both of them.
Grown Men: About 30 players on the BYU team are married.
Recreational Prediction: BYU (-3). We’re not super comfortable with that prediction. This spread is about dead on with SDSU at home, but BYU’s defense is the best unit on the field and their offense, however marginally, has been trending upward. Bowl Season Record: 1-1 (ATS)
This is what happens when you remove alcohol and caffeine from a college campus…

BYU at nine points on the Bowl Thingy. I’m with Duffy. Not all that confident about this game. Thus, the nine points.
Also, I thought the Beef O’ Brady Bowl was tonight. It isn’t until tomorrow night. Much more confident in that game. Anyhow, final Sunny and League tonight.
I’m watching the local news. Romeo denying he is being fired is sad tv. He has no poker face. Just confusion.
December 20th, 2012 at 7:27 PM
Not surprising that SDSU has improved since the departure of Hoke.
December 20th, 2012 at 7:37 PM
SI just did their top stories of the year. Normally they seem pretty spot on but I didn’t like this year’s list.
The Space Jump at 100. Linsanity at 2? I’d be way more inclined to have those switched.
December 20th, 2012 at 7:37 PM
It’s nice to see nobody comments on CRM MMA posts. The tradition continues!
December 20th, 2012 at 7:51 PM
This team really better than the 2010 one with Hoke that went 9-4 and came ridiculously close to upsetting two Top 15 teams on the road?
December 20th, 2012 at 7:53 PM
I have learned the hard way to never bet against the Mormons in a bowl game.

Space Jump was five days worth of news. Linsanity was five weeks or more. Pageviews.
But, I get what you are getting at.

Anyone notice who’s currently leading?
I am not in the bowl pool but I would defer to Wayne Fontes Safari for this game. He has proven excellent at predicting events in San Diego, with the Junior Seau thing and all.
December 20th, 2012 at 8:20 PM
Anyone notice who’s currently leading? Wayne
33 games left, Fontes. I’ll catch you.
Actually, in this type of set up, it is who has the most potential points still available. 10 of us have 630. A few others are within five points. The rest didn’t bother setting their lineup after joining. I call that Spencering.

I’ve got nothing. Awesome. You got an good memory, an old meme, and the funny. I award you all of my Paolo points.
/Has no more Paolo points.

Paolo points
What are those redeemable towards? A get out of banhammer free card?
December 20th, 2012 at 8:35 PM
I’d ask you how your snow day went KC, but that would be off topic. I’ve used up too many of my off topic points. Need to let them regenerate a little bit.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Just happy to have my own personal internet meme. There honestly was a 10 – 15 minute period where I thought he was a lurker on here and my bad joke was the final straw.
Never thought of that, hence my 1 confidence point in this game.

I’ve got the Aztecs on this for 15… That’s a little strong for my taste, actually…

Oh, it was good. Got the call about 5:30 am that school was out. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone and email making sure work could go on without me and then slept till 9:15 with biscuits and gravy cooked by my wife waking me up. That and my kid bouncing around the house ready to go sledding. I live in a hilly part of Kansas and the wife, my son, and I took advantage of that. Got tired, came home, cleaned up and I started drinking fancy beer that was gifted to me over this past week. Great day. And Sunny and the League come on soon. The only thing that sucks is that I have to work a half day tomorrow, so that will require waking up at 6:00. Otherwise, a perfect day. I really had a lot of fun.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:31 PM
I just don’t like dudes that lie on blogs.

And screw this. 80% of comments at this esteemed site are off topic. I understand the continued bashing of the writers being a sore subject (who really bashes Lisk/CRM/TSH?), but the EIC has is overreaching here. This is a community. The commenters here are nicer to the writers than most other commenting places. Except Dirt. That dude is an asshole.
/Dirt is colorful. Or should I say, “Cummingful.”
See, we have fun here. No hard feelings.

My thighs would fight you right now if they had the energy.
/We live in NE KS on the Kaw River valley.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:33 PM
I wouldn’t read too much into any of that. Everybody needs some time off about now and everybody vents now and then.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:36 PM

I’m going to have to agree with Wally on this one. Since when is there a hilly part of Kansas.
slept till 9:15 with biscuits and gravy cooked by my wife
Awesome. Did she have the day off, too? Then after you ate the biscuits and gravy she cooked, you could’ve gravy’d her biscuits.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:38 PM
I was doing errands on my lunch today and heard the sports talk radio host say, “Let’s check our twitter feed, and here’s one from Mantis Tobaggon”…
December 20th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Did she have the day off, too? T
Yeah, she’s a teacher.
I’m going to have to agree with Wally on this one. Since when is there a hilly part of Kansas.
Yeah, at least enough up here in NE KS for sledding hills. The jr. high neighbor kids were slamming into my trees on the lower part of the property while I was on the back stoop reading and drinking fancy beer. A fine day. They were wanting to sled off a rock drop (about five feet) and I forbade that. I felt like responsible or something.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
Everybody needs some time off about now
I volunteered to work Xmas eve so that one of the chicks at work with kids can stay home with them. That’s my good deed for the year. Told my coworkers from now on when they tell people behind my back that I’m an asshole that they’re not allowed to use adjectives like “complete” or “total”
December 20th, 2012 at 9:42 PM
And, by the way, jr. high kids are fucking resilient. They might be sore tomorrow, but I’d be fucking dead for a week doing what they were doing.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
I felt like responsible or something.
Business decision, man. Those parents would’ve been blinded by the dollar signs in their eyes if anything happened.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
What’s with all the banhammer talk? Did the esteemed EIC get large in his Smedium shirts this week again? Been a busy work week, so I haven’t been around much…
December 20th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
Yeah I am working a midnight shift tonight since so many people have holiday time VAC.
December 20th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
If you want to sled in Delaware you better find an off ramp, because that’s the only place you’re finding a hill. Actually, up North by PA starts to get a little bumpy. But who gives a shit about Wilmington?
Man from Wilmington: Who gives a shit about LSD?
December 20th, 2012 at 9:47 PM
EIC just said he was gonna be largely away so just shooting one across the bow telling people to keep it between the lines as he gave his staff the Holy Hand Grenade.

Go to the AM round-up. McIntyre is going on a week vacation and has given banhammering to all the writers. And Jmac will not bail you out later if you get smashed. Which if funny, since 99% of the commenters like the writers with the exception of one of the writers. But he rights to the banhammer. Snark accordingly.

Don’t answer that or you’ll disappear from here.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
It’s 10:02pm Eastern and Alex Morgan’s backside is still fantastic.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
Meth, you really need to invest in an avatar. Should I take up a collection for you?
December 20th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
It’s 10:02pm Eastern and Alex Morgan’s backside is still fantastic.
Indeed. I keep getting this ad for a T-Shirt company and it’s got this chick on there with a very impressive rack bending down to show said very impressive rack. And they say nobody looks at the ads.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
I kind of think BYU will win because SD State should be up about 10-14 and only lead by 3. which is usually the kiss of death
December 20th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
Meth, you really need to invest in an avatar. Should I take up a collection for you?
Man, I haven’t heard that in months. I do need to get one. Maybe I’ll get some sort of medieval punkin chunker to pay tribute to Nada’s fascination with the only fascinating thing to come out of my home state.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:27 PM
Not sure exactly what I did, but mole is trying to get CRM to banhammer me.
I’m no innocent, but what is my transgression?
December 20th, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Alright, I got one, how does it work? Do I have to wait for it to show up?
December 20th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Considering your work schedule and times you post, i suggest this,
December 20th, 2012 at 10:29 PM
Why does my trebuchet refuse to display on this glorious day? How about now? Can you see me now?
December 20th, 2012 at 10:30 PM
It could be a few days, weeks, or longer. It’s a riddle inside of an enigma.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:30 PM
I do like that owl actually.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:31 PM
Meth! With the avatar!
December 20th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Or I’ve done something to aggravate CRM. Not sure what. Maybe the references to Gangnam.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Not yet, Nada. Apparently I did it wrong. Or I might have to wait 6-8 months until they’re done giving me an enema.

Spoke too soon.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Anyway, from what I gather, I’m on the forefront of the “banhammer for meking OT references” meme.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
I see your trebuchet, Meth. I approve wholeheartedly.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:36 PM
Punk punk punk
Chunk chunk chunk
And Alex Morgan’s caboose!

Maybe you can get the party responsible further in line for crimes of the “not spelling making correctly” variety.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
The new waterboarding.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
I put that owl on there now. WFS had linked that. See how it looks. Maybe I’ll put those tits from that ad on there next.

December 20th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
AWESOME!
December 20th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Yes? This team went on the road and beat a top 15 team. Nice try giving Hoke credit for losing though.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Its on there. Timing is everything apparently, after location.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Well, Meth, now I’m just confused. I liked the trebuchet. The owl reminds me of MP’s avatar and “Fly By Night.”
December 20th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Speaking of waterboarding, apparently rednecks are now employing the technique

I thought that was a bird. Ha.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
That would be nice. Or else Alex Morgan’s booty, or maybe Upton’s.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
Hey Nada if you get banned and have to come back incognito, code words will be something about punkin chunkin or mix tapes.
I don’t like the owl as much now that it’s actually up there. Looked better full screen with big eyes of death.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Alright, give it a few and it’s back to launching fruit with the harbinger of mayhem.
December 20th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
More on the Montana guy:
December 20th, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Nada you have any Paul Butterfield stuff? Reccomendations?
December 20th, 2012 at 10:52 PM
The witness also said Province had military-grade armor, armor-piercing ammunition and several assault weapons and was ready to fight with law enforcement.
If this was prohibition era he’d be a hero and get movies made out of him.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:03 PM
Or see if you can “borrow” the Rollo’s Batshit SIL username from whoever created that one.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:06 PM
Before I leave today I’ll leave you guys with a quick story. Chick at work asked me if I had plans for Xmas eve. I didn’t know there was an invitation on the other end or I would’ve came up with something a little more elaborate than no. She invited me over for dinner. Told her I’d see what came up, which was the nice way of saying I was going to forget she asked me and hope she didn’t ask again. Told my brother about it today and he asked me how many beers it would take. I said I’d have to be so drunk I probably wouldn’t be able to get it up.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
what’s the main problem with her (looks, size, etc.)? i probably missed that part of the story from an earlier night.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
What’s up, Rollo? Don’t catch you on here much these days. School keeping you busy?
December 20th, 2012 at 11:14 PM
School and a nine-month old. I try to keep up with the best posts/comment sections each day but lurk more than I comment.
Two lockdowns at school today totaling four hours and tomorrow was the actual shooting rumor. I think I’ll start my winter break one day early…have a few hours and a Sam Adams White Christmas six-pack to help me decide.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
I didn’t get into it much the other night. She’s not whale proportions but she’s still heavier than I’m willing to go for. I don’t want a twig, but I’m also not going for the whole tree. This is the one I said was sweating my nuts when my girlfriend and I first split. Every now and again she turns it back on, ya know? Fails every time.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
Sam Adams White Christmas
Never heard of it. Sounds like some sort of ale. And that sucks about the lockdowns. Fucking people these days.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
You guys are getting/or got that blizzard out west and here it’s like a monsoon outside. We had pouring rain and howling wind come out of nowhere. Went out for my lunch break it was a little chilly, but was fine. I went out for my last break at 10 and it was a complete 180 degree turn.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Guys, really, dont be afraid of being banned. I am the most banned commenter ever. I snuck back, did all kinds of dumb shit, and am still around. The new 7 fig regime might be a little stricter but just be careful.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
They alleged some light snowfall but its just been cold rain. Annual ratings tradition for the local weatherman. It sucked I have a privacy fence and leaves just blow up against it and collections have ended, so I went out in the rain earlier and cleaned that mess up, otherwise those leaves wage war on my snowblower.
December 20th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
We were supposed to get 7 inches and a blizzard tonight and got less than an inch but 60mph winds.
The Sam Adams WC is about what I’d expect, an ale with citrus and spice I think is what it says. Decent.
I get the bannings for racist or hateful comments, but it always seems like the potential bannings are for not agreeing with a writer in a mean way. Seems kinda weak.
