Gary Andersen Called 106 Utah State Players to Inform Them He Was Leaving
Gary Andersen puts Tommy Tuberville and Todd Graham to shame. The new Wisconsin coach reportedly stayed up until 2:30am Wednesday morning, calling every Utah State football player to inform them he was leaving for Wisconsin. He made around 106 calls. He’ll fit in well at Wisconsin.
Perhaps, we are being too hard on poor Todd Graham. He put a lot of heartfelt thought into that group text message.

Six year bowl ban for impermissible cell phone calls to players coming down the pipe from Emmert.
December 20th, 2012 at 12:43 PM
Meanwhile, bastion of ethical recruiting and anti-flipping proponent Brett Beilema just flipped a K-State recruit to Arkansas.
December 20th, 2012 at 12:45 PM
Did John L Smith tell his Arkansas players at halftime that he was being fired?
December 20th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Sounds like a class act. I would have thought all the student-athletes would be tucked away in bed as 2:30 AM, though.
December 20th, 2012 at 12:46 PM
Ha, would be interesting if he is officially the coach at Wisconsin because it could be seen as contacting another school’s players. Although unless he said you should transfer and play for me it wouldn’t be impermissible.

So no post on Oregon? Carry on.

I’m pretty sure they were aware of that by midseason.

Buddy of mine that is a TexAgs reader sent me this supposedly from Billy Liucci (the Ags board’s insider):
From Texags:
Guys, Chip Kelly is G-O-N-E per sources in the coaching community across the country. IMO, he’s likely pulling a Pete Carroll – getting out while the getting is good. Will be interesting to see what domino effect this has in the college coaching world. Should be fascinating to watch because it will take place in mid-January as opposed to late November and early December. Everyone with a coach who might be targeted by the Ducks had better lock things up by then.
December 20th, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Stoops to Eugene.
December 20th, 2012 at 12:53 PM
I’m wondering if he’ll be allowed on the sidelines at the Rose Bowl.

Tim, ban this man who has now changed the subject and ruined the comments by making them about him.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
So this morning it was said that people posting OT shit were bad. That’s really stupid. Who here that comments base most of ther TBL viewing habits on posts made by the masses. The RoundUp, for example, I’ll look at the story descriptions and read those that sound good, then I’ll rush to the comments to see what folks are saying and I may even check out other stories based on comments. Some TBL posts I’ll ignore completely (FUCK NYJ’s AND TOM BRADY) and head straight to the comments for laughs. I really don’t think they know what they have here. Or maybe they do and like to stir shit?

December 20th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
The comments section here is great. But to think commenters contribute to a good chunk of traffic is humorous.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
So what you’re saying is that a contention that the comments hurt the site would have zero basis in logic?
December 20th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
But to think commenters contribute to a good chunk of traffic is humorous.
Most of the traffic is driven by fake twitter followers
December 20th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
The comments section here is great. But to think commenters contribute to a good chunk of traffic is humorous.
I don’t think that any of us think we’re the main attraction. I’d hope none of us do anyway. But disparaging the notion that some people come here more for the comments than the posts is equally humorous.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:13 PM

Says their bitch.
See, you’re one that annoys the living shit out of me. I try to skip your shit altogether.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
The comments section itself, but that has nothing to do with traffic.

December 20th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
I have more than once gotten a twitter mention about a particularly funny or on point comment I made, by someone who doesn’t have a commenter account. I don’t think anyone comes for the comments, but they certainly can add to the experience of readers who don’t comment, by touching subjects that are off-limits for the authors bound by company policies, and by adding humor, corrections, or relevant links to other topics.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Nah Jason said the comments, not the site, I was remembering wrong.

See I liked TSH’s stuff the best. And the Fat Timmy meme has not come close to reaching its peak yet.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Never said that. A good majority of you, or at least the regulars, come to converse with one another. I’ve always enjoyed the comments and still do, especially my boy Diddy.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:19 PM

December 20th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
Wow, and right too our face. Hernia is drunk on banhammer authority.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
I do think it’s going to be hilarious when Stephen bans Nada though.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
I don’t believe anyone comes just for the comments, but they add to things. Look at Deadspin, their comments are a clusterfuck, so I read only the posts that seem interesting, otherwise I’ll skip them. Here, I’ll usually check the comments if there are a lot, especially on posts that don’t warrant high volumes. Like Ryan’s posts.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Several people have said exactly that in the past. I got shouted down by a few for mocking them. Can’t remember who. Probably idiots.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:21 PM

December 20th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Dunno about many, but my point above was that yes, non-commenters actually do often read comments.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
I dunno. There are probably a bunch of lurkers out there. I read them for quite a while before posting my first comment.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
There are probably a bunch of lurkers out there. I read them for quite a while before posting my first comment.
I am the opposite. I don’t know what flipped the switch for me. I was aware of this site for a little while before it even occurred to me to read the comments. I’m pretty sure it was a BBoB post that changed my life.
December 20th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
If I’m sitting at a traffic light cursing TBL’s mobile site while tryng to comment on my phone and the horns behind me blare, then I am definitely contributing a good chunk to traffic.

I have an account but have maybe commented one or two dozen times over the three or four years since I’ve found this site.
That said, I generally read the comments and often find them much, much more entertaining, and often more informative, than the posts. I read the Roundup comments almost every day. I don’t follow college football much at all and couldn’t give two shits about Gary Anderson, but I clicked on this post to read the 90+ comments.
