Secondly, I would make the 2 following player moves. First and foremost, you have to trade Revis. The jets currently have the 2nd ranked pass defense (according to CBS) and most though this wouldn’t happen without Revis Island. All things considered (knee injury, CB ranking, pro bowl appearances, etc) the Jets could get a 1st, 3rd/4th, and maybe 6th round pick in the 2013 draft in the right team is interested. Those picks (coupled with their current 7) can help the Jets get a HB, RG, WR, OLB, replacement CB, a blocking TE, and dept on the OL/DL/MLB. Bottom line this will get younger (obviously if Tannenbum doesn’t trade any picks away). Revis wants bank and the jets are not in the financial position to make this happen.

Secondly, I would bring in a low-end veteran QB (Matt Hasslebeck anyone) to hold the fort, if needed, for 1 season. There aren’t any solid rookie QB’s this season to build a franchise around nor will take any retreads (Vick, Smith, Cassel, Kolb). Hopefully McElroy plays well these next 2 games and shows promise as a QB of the future. By the time his rookie contract expires (2015), Sanchez will be long gone (only guaranteed money until 2013) and there will be no reason to have big money spent on 2 QB’s at the same time.

The idea of needing to set a team philosophy is complete nonsense. Good teams in the NFL are constantly changing their game plans, throwing in new twists from week to week, precisely because establishing one philosophy quickly means your team is predictable and opposing coaches can adjust. See Bill Belichick as Exhibit A. In this interview, with the teams he mentions, establishing a philosophy means having an above average QB. What team doesn’t want that?

Random Thoughts: For the life of me, I can’t understand why the LBs get blamed over and over for the decline in the running game. Sione Pouha was arguably the best 3-4 NT in the league last (was All-Pro with I think wilfork). He has been playing hurt with a bad back the entire season, at the position where leverage is incredibly important. Don’t get me wrong, the Harris had a down year, Bart Scott was inconsistent, but Pouha’s decline was by FAR the biggest reason.

Kyle Wilson is not a bust. FO has him smack dab in the middle of the pack among corners in the league. Revis’ injury actually helped him, was able to move out of the slot and into a more traditional outside role.

People talk about the OL as though Wayne Hunter is still an active member. Its a good OL in pass protection, but made to look bad by the fact the Sanchez holds onto the ball on average longer than any QB in the NFL. They could use another pulling guard for the run game, especially with Moore and Slauson being free agents.

If i wasn’t a Jets fan, I’d be tired of reading all this too. But the fact is, nobody thought this team was anything but average going into the season, after which they proceeded to be absolutely decimated by injuries. And you know what? They are still average, can’t beat good teams, generally beat bad teams. To me, Rex should be kept on for that alone.

Wow not a lot of love for someone who won a national championship in college and took a team to the 2nd round of the playoffs during his Rookie season. He may not have good stats but getting others to play hard around you because you actually do care about winning and not about money is just as helpful as throwing a good looking sprial.

I can see Saban have a rough, by Bama standards, couple of seasons, retire and then take over Texas when whoever replaces Mack fails. I don’t think he does the NFL again.
