Virginia Tech’s Drab Matte Maroon Helmets Sum Up Their Awful 2012 Season

Not to be outdone by Michigan, Virginia Tech unveiled their matte maroon helmets for the Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Rutgers. Given their 5-6 vs. FBS season, these bare, lifeless lids seem fitting. They also appear to have roused the VaTech faithful. Tickets that were selling for $3 on StubHub are now going for $5.

I like the matte look, but agree it needs to be dressed up some. And I’m way in favor of classical understated looks vs. this new Nike bullshit that is getting trotted out there. Ugh.

I like the matte look.
I have this weird aversion to them. Matte finish to me, just looking at it, gives me the feeling of nails on a chalkboard. No idea why. Probably the speed.

Last week I was editing a third circuit brief that involved a corporation whom the writer decided to shorten as “MEH” for the entirety. I refused to be drawn into the argument because they would have thought I was crazy, but writing a persuasive brief and using the horrid word associated with a dickish disinterested shoulder shrug seems like a horrible idea to me.

I will read that in a few, looks good. A different pissed off approach I had seen last week in The Independent was fury over the fact that the US was fining HSBC, Standard Chartered, and Barclays but won’t do the same to domestic banks. While the anger here is “we won’t really punish them” over there it’s “you won’t even nominally punish your own, just go after London banks.”

These remind me of Bruce Smith for some reason. I don’t think their uniform looked anything like this when he was there but it seems like it should have.
