Chris Denson of Auburn: Dunk-of-the-Year Candidate for 2012
Chris Denson, a 6-foot-2 guard on the Auburn Tigers, rose up and dunked one lefty on Tennessee Tech’s Matt Marseille. The latter stands 6-foot-6.
I’ve said this many times, but the one athletic feat I wish I could do was dunk. Everyone hits the perfect golf shot every few years. Or rips a paint-the-line backhand every summer. If you get the right pitch in your softball league – and a portly outfielder – an inside-the-park homer is possible. A dunk? Simply not possible unless you’re tall, possess great leaping ability, or lower the rim to 8-feet.

I’m a six foot tall white boy. I could dunk a HS girls basketball when I was in high school. Never in a game, mind you (as I didn’t play in the HS girls games.) I’d need a clear path and could only do it one handed. One guy on our team, six feet tall, could dunk two handed. All about plyometrics, son.

much like Auburn basketball, it was probably ignored and we went back to calling mullet out for his terrible choices regarding fried chicken.

Charlie Weis is one the line and wants to know if you have any eligibility left. He’d like you at linebacker.

I’m picturing TBL sadly looking up at the rim in an empty gym while Skee Lo plays in the background.

I’m still trying to spread the word about Shaq Johnson, Denson’s Auburn teammate, who would win any dunk contest right now.

Jason, you have a serious, serious dunk fetish and should seek immediate professional help.

I’m 5’11 and can dunk…. no…really, I can.

Just look at that crowd go crazy!
/Hates that Auburn is closest thing to good basketball I have to watch in person.

Couldn’t agree more on the plyometrics. They are also one of the most efficient ways to lose weight. During a fitness kick a couple years back I decided to step it up and bought on those weighted vests to wear during box jumps. Its a fantastic work out, but you have to be ok with looking like a complete jackass. An added benefit is it resembles a bulletproof vest at a passing glance; more than once I’d scare high school kids smoking pot off their stoops when i ran through the streets in NYC who must have thought I was police.

Similar … 5’11″. I rec’d a pair of ankle braces (old school suede) in 4th grade. I wore them nearly every day of my till 9th grade.
My senior year I was the punter on the football team and would stay after practice every day and punt 30-35. The spring you develop in your legs while punting is incredible.
After punts, I could dunk consistently with a full size b-ball but only from the left side with my right hand. At no other time could I ever dunk. ever.

the glorification of the dunk has hurt basketball. I want to see some video of the “chest pass of the year”, or the “layin of the year”.
