“wtf damn football can wait”: Not Everyone Said Racist Things When NBC Pre-Empted Sunday Night Football
NBC interrupted Sunday night’s football game between the 49ers and Patriots to show President Obama’s speech at the Sandy Hook tragedy. This prompted some idiots to use racist words on Twitter. It was shocking! I’m sorry, do you need help? Because I can only assume you just fell out of your chair. I know. I was shocked too. Even more shocking? A bunch of people said non-racist things about Obama’s speech pre-empting the football game.
If your complaining about President Obama interrupting the Patriots game to talk about a tragedy then you really need to reevaluate yourself
— Danielle Kavey(@dmkay1) December 17, 2012
Have some respect, this is for the kids who lost their lives, no need to explain how you hate Obama, get over it. Football can wait — Zaine Taff (@taff96) December 17, 2012
If you’re seriously upset because you care more about a football game than Obama’s speech on the shooting in Newtown then you have a problem
— Samantha. (@senojmas_) December 17, 2012
Of course Obama’s gonna address what happened. No football game is more important than the people who lost their lives in this freak tragedy — Patrick Johnson (@Patrick_Coe) December 17, 2012
Obama is on because innocent little kids lost their lives . wtf damn football can wait . y’all some dickheads for that smh .

Friday everybody was so upset about the tragedy. Today, everyone’s pissed that Obama’s speech is interrupting football. Yeah… — Mike Joyce (@mf_joyce) December 17, 2012
Patriots game means nothing to me right now. When President Obama started reading off those names I couldn’t hold it together. Beautiful.

President Obama speaking live in Newtown CT…& I’m okay with it interrupting the Patriots game. Some things are more important than sports. — Andrew Taylor (@andrewtaylor09) December 17, 2012
People are complaining that Obama interrupted the Patriots game to say a prayer for those who died in Newtown #areyoukidding #respect #rip — Rachel McManus (@rachmcman) December 17, 2012
Wow #NBC is going to pre-empt the #49ers and #Patritos game for Obama’s press conference. That’s the way it is supposed to be, this is a game

I think this was viral marketing by NBC…it forced me to find NBC Sports on DirecTV…it took me a few minutes, but by god it exists.

Agreed 100%. The buzzfeed/huffington/gawker posts of stupid things said by people are the laziest and most predictable things in blogging, nice to see the other side of it.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
I love it when people have rational thoughts in response to irrational people and we think that makes them rational.

In CT they split-screened the early part of the ceremony with the Cowboy-Steeler game, with audio from the ceremony. I wouldn’t have complained, but it was a Rabbi singing Hebrew for several minutes before I muted the tv. Needless to say, I had no clue what the fuck he was saying
December 17th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
And I understand that people feel like they have to validate their feelings by posting the obvious on facebook and twitter (“I feel so sad”), I just wish more of them would grow to be confident in themselves since nobody else really cares.

December 17th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Lol. No disrespect here, but I did the same thing. I tried to be sensitive but after a minute or two – I just muted and watched

You’ve never heard the 140 BPM version of Haavah Nagila? It’s fun to watch a bunch of drunk people at a Jewish wedding “dance” to this song.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:58 PM

Boston.com’s year end picture thing is so much better than anyone else’s. Always includes a lot of raw stuff. As opposed to water skiing squirrels.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:05 PM

December 17th, 2012 at 4:05 PM
And now I’ll have that song in my head the rest of the day.
On the bright side, it’s pushing out “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.

The next time I complain about a boring training webinar I’m forced to watch, I’m going to remember that picture (#8) of the Chinese bodyguard trainee getting smashed over the head with a bottle.

Do people still do posts on things besides what idiots write on twitter? Or are blogs just twitter aggregators now? Exciting progress.

Did some boob really spend time pulling those sappy ass tweets? Jesus, I’d shovel shit before sifting through that bullshit all day.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:21 PM
There are legitimate complaints about the interuption of the football game and coverage of the massacre in general. So much coverage inspires other loose wires to copy it and become “heroes” in their demented minds. I’m not sure what the right balance is, but I do think media coverage was way over the top, especially interviews of the frightened children.
