Ray Rice vs. Idiot Football Fans Over Fantasy Football
Despite clinching a playoff berth Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens were obliterated by the Denver Broncos 34-17. Star running back Ray Rice only managed 38 yards on 12 carries. Fantasy football owners were not too happy, and went after Rice on twitter:
“@kingnapes: The fact that Ray Rice blamed his performance on the Newtown shooting is terrible. Lost a lot of respect.” @petro27rr
— Aliciousness (@ThatKid_jacobus) December 17, 2012
@rayrice27 irrelevant, do your job
— Mitchell Walther (@MWal20) December 17, 2012
@rayrice27 thanks for helping me lose my playoff game this week…you owe me $200 my nigga
— AssholeByNature (@Dante_Says) December 17, 2012
you need help for real RT @asapabdi: @rayrice27 you aren’t paid millions to mourn twitter.com/AsapAbdi/statu…
— Ray Rice (@RayRice27) December 17, 2012
Predictably, Rice took the bait and responded to the trolls.
People had the nerve to tweet me about fantasy football when the people and families of Newtown CT are the ones who need us all Right Now
— Ray Rice (@RayRice27) December 17, 2012
— Ray Rice (@RayRice27) December 17, 2012
So if you feel like tweeting me about a loss or how I let you down in fantasy just unfollow me. My prayers and thoughts are with Newtown CT
— Ray Rice (@RayRice27) December 17, 2012
By all accounts Ray Rice is a great guy, he is very active with his charity and seems to always have a positive message online. The truth is that Rice and his team are struggling and the Twitter trolls just make convenient scapegoats.

Jesus CHRIST, Ray. There’s a time and a place for plugs.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Twitter Detective Ronny, reporting for duty.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
ABN showing the love. $200, indeed.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Ronny Carlton? I am not familiar with this Mr. Carlton. Is this Shamburgers alter ego?
December 17th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
12 carries? these mopes need to blame the D or flacco or the OC
December 17th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
To be fair, that one guy is an Asshole By Nature.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Did Ray Rice actually blame his performance on Newtown?
December 17th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
agreed fantasy football is destroying american culture.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
He’s just a serf in the world of TBL.
KC has a picture of him on his wall.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
no no…the apple newton.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
twitter is an endless supply of shit. i have no idea why people are on it.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Also, it’s my opinion that the families in Newtown don’t need you talking about them on TV or twitter, they don’t need you to write the name of their town on their shoe, they don’t care how you’re personally reacting to the tragedy…
December 17th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Oh, shut the fuck up. Shut your fat fucking Allagashhole. You’re not some guiding voice of perspective that the country turns to in a moment of philosophical crisis. You’re not Murrow. You’re not Cronkite. You’re just some fat stupid asshole who writes poorly about sports and thinks way too highly of himself. It’s your fucking job to talk football. YOUR FUCKING JOB. Going about your job is not crass or disrespectful. Yammering on about the shooting in your weekly column like the incident hasn’t been done justice until PETER KING RAMBLES DOLEFULLY ABOUT IT is crass and self-serving. I work seven days a week because I probably make a tenth of what Peter King does. I move furniture on Saturdays. I’m sure the people I moved this past weekend would have loved for me to show up and be like, “I hope you don’t think it crass of me after the shooting in Connecticut, but I’d like to pick up your dresser now.” They’d laugh in my face. With good reason, but that would be fucking retarded. By all means, be sad and shocked about what happened in Newtown, but for fuck’s sake, get the fuck over yourself.
/round of applause
December 17th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
Thanks a lot Ray.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
That KSK guy sounds like a stalker.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:58 PM
People would probably say the same thing about TBL message boards if the only thing that was reported were SuperAndy and GrapeApe posts.

Just like everything else in history of mankind, there’s a good side and a bad side. Yeah, there’s lot of silly people on that site, but I also laugh at some funny tweets, read some interesting article that people link etc.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:02 PM
And with Twitter you can control whose bullshit you see
December 17th, 2012 at 3:03 PM
Gold.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:04 PM
i’m just getting through the roundup and i saw some outrage over media coverage of newtown. did anyone mention how vile it is for the cable news to be putting recently traumatized kids and their parents in front of a camera, over and over. read a web article on msn in which the reporter called the grandma of the shooter then describer her breaking down and hanging up
i am ope to these tactics if someone can prove they are of value. otherwise, it’s the worst of media
December 17th, 2012 at 3:07 PM
First I’ve heard of this.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:09 PM
/round of applause
my wife was railing against her own company’s locations, which have their own fb pages, posting their sadness and ‘thoughts go out to newtown’ statuses. people will still buy things from your company if you don’t tell them you are sad for a situation that most normal people are sad for
sadness is assumed
December 17th, 2012 at 3:13 PM
Well that “direct access” goes both ways. Players have it to circumvent bullshit put out by teams, league, troll for road beef, etc. But fans have it back to them as well. Enjoy the lunacy fellas!
December 17th, 2012 at 3:15 PM
People, get it together. Ronny Carlton is the undisputed MVP of TBL. Angling for that big contract after a strong rookie year
December 17th, 2012 at 3:16 PM
/longs for the days when the news was the news
December 17th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
All the “This happened because God is gone from schools,” “More guns,” “Less guns,” and fake Morgan Freeman thoughts has me pining for the days when pointless pictures of my friends’ kids was the most annoying thing on FB.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
I hadn;t seen or heard this brought up as a talking point by anyone. That;s an excellent point.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:20 PM
KSK made my afternoon with that response to “PK trying to not sound crass.”
December 17th, 2012 at 3:22 PM
I long for the days when people complained about Facebook being Stalkerbook when the mini feed was first introduced.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
+27 status updates of “wow, mike huckabee has it right! please watch now.”
December 17th, 2012 at 3:23 PM
KSK typically sucks ass. We get it — you think Peter King sucks. Five years of these posts has driven that point home.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Don’t forget the “This didn’t happen when we were allowed to beat our kids asses” posts that have 400,000 likes.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:25 PM
I love PK as a football writer, but he can get blowhardy at times
December 17th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
I saw today this quote with that link: Wow must watch, Democrat, Republican, doesn’t matter, this is truth. GUESS WHICH ONE HE IS!
December 17th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
+1
December 17th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
Saw Huckabee on The Daily Show a couple weeks back, welcome back to fatness friend
December 17th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
No doubt. His MMQB columns are full of rambles, stories about his kids, and irrelevant items he finds interesting. You know who else writes like that? Everyone at KSK. Especially Drew, who made a career through profanity filled anecdotes about his kids and other subjects relevant only to him.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Yes and his style definitely lends itself to parody if not outright mockery. KSK is doing a horrible FJM impression though. Ken Tremendous you’re not.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Judging by his waistline, I’d say he’s a member of the Pizza Party.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:29 PM
Link.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:31 PM
I actually enjoyed his gun rant, but I recognize that’s just as ripe for mockery as anything King writes.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:34 PM
Yeah me too I just thought the timing was solid.
Though Tunison doesn’t really seem full of himself at all, really enjoyed his rant about how awful Timothy Burke is last night.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:34 PM
The shitty autoplay ad on the side with Sean Salisbury (called, I shit you not, “Salisbury Steaks”) has a banner underneath his stupid face boasting that he’s 24-25-1 against the spread this year. I get that in gambling, that’s not a terrible record. But anyone following those pick would have probably lost money this year. Wouldn’t really advertise that.
Anyway, I’m going to create a site that is nothing but an FJM-style takedown of KSK posts in mock Peter King voice.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:36 PM
Who is Timothy Burke? Serious question.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:36 PM
PK writing what he thought Goodell would be thinking after seeing Lincoln was nauseating.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:37 PM
bubbaprog on twitter, Deadspin guy who rose to prominence as a screen shot magnate, the last bastion of great journalism.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:38 PM
That was my first visit to KSK. Is all of the shit there as self-righteous and blantantly transparent as that?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:39 PM
I’m probably late to the game here, but what/who is FJM?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:39 PM
Yes, it is.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:41 PM
Screen Shot Magnate > Dick Pic Baron?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
I don’t really get it. If you don’t like PK… why would you devote all the time to reading and responding to his articles and showing the world what the result is when a journalism school dropout finds a Panera with a kickass public Wi-Fi connection?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:44 PM
Because they get paid to do it?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
Drew pretty much does the exact same thing with Gregggg Easterbrook is a Haughty Dipshit.
/Fuck Easterbrook too
December 17th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
Because when done well these things can be entertaining to the reader…the KSK guy however has made the mistake of being too bitter to be funny with it, did like the bit about crassness though
December 17th, 2012 at 3:45 PM
I hadn;t seen or heard this brought up as a talking point by anyone. That;s an excellent point.
i meant in the roundup i was halfway through. this cleverness has my head spinning
December 17th, 2012 at 3:48 PM
/afraid to answer
Yeah I liked Drew at first but it wore thin quickly. And reading Easterbrook would just make me irrationally and possibly homicidally angry, so I just stop. Reading the same thing over and over just wears on me. At some point you need a new schtick… I can only read so many thinly-veiled posts about paying players before I lose interest in responding.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
On this plus side, a storm came in and the birds stopped splashing in the bird bath, meaning the puppy no longer is taking running starts and trying to launch herself through a full-length glass window to get to them.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Unfortunately in the news media, “get there first” takes precedence over humanity.
When I worked for the AP, we got word that a Navy fighter pilot from our area had died in a crash. Our boss ordered a colleague to hunt down his family immediately for comment.
She eventually reached his grandmother by phone. Only thing is, she hadn’t been notified yet by the authorities. It was not a pretty scene.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
It was just too much. The Lincoln bit deserved mockery and the stuff about Sandy Hook was pretty good. 90% falls under the category of “trying way too hard.”
December 17th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Are you 67?
December 17th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
I stopped reading Easterbrook, PK, and Rick Reilly entirely. You will be a much happier person.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
Amen, brother. PK doesn’t bother me a ton actually, just his tweeting. I stopped following him though and always forget to read MMQ. Haven’t missed it yet.
In the interest of full-disclosure, I hate Reilly, met him once and he was a colossal prick. However I did accidentally read his piece on Brady Quinn and teammate suicides, and while I thought it missed a few key points, didn’t think it was too bad. I didn’t even close it before finishing it because it was so terrible (a shock considering the author).
December 17th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
Fire Joe Morgan. It’s still up though hasnt been active in a few years. Basically invented this type of column, only way more well-written and funny.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
I would say a good 85% of MMQB’s non football filler deserves mockery. Cousins writing for the New Yorker in last week’s was too much.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
Someone else who was guilty of trying too hard was the awful announcing guy. Every week he did a roundup of all the dumb things announcers said during games and it was a brutal read. He would latch onto the most minor of flub to provide his snarky commentary.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
It came with the house.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
Everybody says that Reilly used to be great, can’t remember. I think the evolving style of sportswriting/media has NOT been kind to many of the old guard.
December 17th, 2012 at 3:59 PM
I am SHOCKED that the guy who created Parks and Rec and is a professional comedy writer is a better comedy writer than most bloggers.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:00 PM
I legit loathe Reilly and when I discovered his Twitter my hate for him went up by 1000x.
Ah gotcha, never really gotten into that site. Don’t they write for Deadspin now?
December 17th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
See Shaughnessy, Dan
December 17th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
The latest was when John Lynch said “Russell Wilson has been 5’10″ his whole life” or something like that during yesterday’s game. The Twitter snarktards jumped all over that one. “NO HE WASNT 5’10″ WHEN HE WAS BORN, STUPID! HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU’RE SO STUPID!!”"
December 17th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
He’ll always be Cousin Mose to me.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:02 PM

if what they have to say can help prevent future tragedy, absolutely get their quotes. 99% of the time it’s a quote about the family being devastated, the victim being nice, the neighborhood being shocked. the recounting of the day’s events adds zero except to the media’s ratings
if we can learn about a shooter’s mind from witnesses, relatives, etc., in the furtherance of understanding and prevention, let’s do it, but we can learn that after some grieving, not immediately
December 17th, 2012 at 4:02 PM
I don’t know about the third guy, but two of the three people who wrote that site are Parks and Rec and Office writers.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:09 PM
He’s on the Sports Reporters here in DC frequently. Would surprise anyone here if I told you he was not even remotely funny? The damage is two-fold because Czaban nearly kills himself trying to out snark Drew. The result? Lamest. Radio. Ever.
December 17th, 2012 at 4:10 PM
Well now Tommy Craggs is taking on PK’s Goodell/Lincoln passage
