North Alabama Cuts Football Player Who Called President Obama “N—–” on Twitter While Addressing the Nation During Sunday Night Football
The President addressed the nation Sunday night while the 49ers and Patriots were playing, so NBC cut away from the game and aired the speech. This prompted Bradley Patterson, a North Alabama football player, to voice his displeasure on Twitter.
Bradley Patterson, an uninvited walk-on long snapper, joined the team in the fourth week of the season, according to a UNA official.
He is no longer a member of the team, according to a tweet tonight by UNA Athletic Director Mark Linder. The tweet was confirmed to Al.com by a university official.
“Uninvited walk-on long snapper.” Talk about rubbing it in. North Alabama seems to have already scrubbed any evidence of Patterson’s involvement with the team from their website. Patterson has deleted his Twitter account. [AL.com]

Good for N. Alabama to kick him off the team, but I’m pretty sure I was on the team as much as he was this past season.

Stupid. I mean, I was annoyed they cut away last night too (considering two other broadcast networks were showing it, as well as their cable news ‘sister’ station) but regardless of who is in it it’s the office of the President so you understand it’s done out of respect to him, and the families, and you move the fuck on.

I’m on team “outing himself publicly is punishment enough”, but we know there is no more timid institution than a public university when it comes to PR.
It’s not totally analogous, but it reminds me of when that presshound retard Gloria Allred tried to insist Michael Richards’ career may be aided by his incident. Racism is the modern day American scarlet letter
December 17th, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Dont think so. Didnt he call those people and apologize or go meet with them or something like that.

December 17th, 2012 at 11:28 AM
Spike Lee is a raging racist ass. If a white guy did what he did, essentially encouraging a vigilante lynch mob, it would’ve set off a media firestorm. Double standard

I’m with you that popularity/financial success aren’t always good barometers of talent, but I cut her serious slack for age and gender. In other words, I think the show is excellent for a mid-20′s chick, and that the narcissism is the charm of her perspective.
I saw about five episodes, and while I don’t think it’s a masterpiece, it struck me as realistic and entertaining

So jealous of people who wait to watch a show. You can just breeze thru all the episodes. And yeah, Jesse is the best.

December 17th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
Horrific comparison. There is a difference between encouraging a vigilante lynch mob and stirring the racial pot. Categorizing Lee’s actions as race baiting is way off.
Limbaugh is a buffoon racial troll. His black comparison would be Al Sharpton or Jesse Jasckson
December 17th, 2012 at 12:11 PM

December 17th, 2012 at 12:18 PM
That’s the cheer squad at Bob Jones University, right?
December 17th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Your whole argument is race based. Saying “if a white guy did it…”
You just assume a media firestorm would erupt and kill his career if he were white, you dont know that. If Quentin Tarantino said what Lee said on twitter, I dont think his career would end.
December 17th, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Do you live on Merseyside though?
Nope. Close enough though, New Jersey. I’m a huge Liverpool fan, and have done a stadium tour of Anfield. It’s beautiful!
December 17th, 2012 at 12:25 PM
I do know that. You’re using the Gloria Allred “you don’t know that” argument. If Tarrantino did it, he’d be raked over the media coals as the second coming of David Duke. Sure, a lot of his fans wouldn’t care about anything but his movies, but there’s no doubt it’d hurt his career
December 17th, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Lee was heavily criticized for that stupid, incorrect tweet.
Deservedly.
December 17th, 2012 at 12:27 PM
This is the part we disagree on. Matter of opinion, I suppose
December 17th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
Fair enough. Got a few friends like this from CT. Been a tough run for Liv the past few years
December 17th, 2012 at 12:31 PM
So you dont think Lee’s career has been affected by this? It is the same thing, his fans dont care about anything about his movies, but it has hurt his career (what career he still has).
You act like nothing has happened to him over this…just because he is black.
December 17th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
I guess so, agree to disagree. I agree with everything you said except for Lee getting away unharmed. Anyway.
December 17th, 2012 at 12:35 PM
The essence of my point is the media plays up white on black racism way more than black on white racism. I’m not knocking it, but it’s reality because it’s better for business.
I also resent the assertion that Spike Lee still has a career
December 17th, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Why I’m wasting my time doing this I have no idea. Blacks and white in this country are not on the same level. It’s not apples to apples comparing white on black racism vs. black on white “racism.” The Civil Rights act was enacted just in 1964. Virginia vs. Loving was enacted in 1967 allowing marrying between races. Hell, “Jungle Fever” (a phrase I hate btw) was controversial and that came out in the 90s. Blacks are a significant minority in comparison to whites. Whites have been in power for essentially the entirety of America’s existence. When the historically disenfranchised rise up, rightly or wrongly, to act against those in power, it’s the bullied rising up against the bully. That’s a simplification to some extent, but you can’t compare the scenarios. There is more to it than what you see.
December 17th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
The Passage is fantastic. The Twelve is a disappointment outside of a few great sections.
December 17th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Institutional racism has been dead for a generation. I’m no longer accepting that argument. As for the “not apples to apples”, that is preposterous. All forms of racism are equally deplorable, and I reject the concept of a credit system that endows certain groups with future racism privileges for their former plight.
December 17th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
hey, the White guy has just declared racism over, so it’s over. Can someone please give the me the date it ended so I can mark it annually on my calendar? Thx
December 17th, 2012 at 1:42 PM

Just because you don’t accept it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. There are still lingering effects socially. A dog taken from an abusive home will still cower when placed into a loving home when the owner raises its hand to pet him. I’m not claiming any racism is acceptable, I don’t think Lee posting the address is necessarily racist, definitely stupid. He is an older guy, his influence his parents had on him is fairly obvious as people who lived through and endured the civil rights movement
December 17th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
the justice system, the job system as evidenced by the unemployment numbers. In other words, it is as it has always been.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Spencer- To be fair, crack is a much worse drug. Laws regarding it may or may not be racially motivated, but they definitely look bad
SROD- I agree, some of the many white wrs could play cb
Mugatu- The lingering effects within people who endured the civil rights movement are totally understandable
Ben Franklin- The justice system is classist IMO. Not sure what the “job system” is. I agree there are people who will discriminate in hiring, but I believe those are individual racists, and it’s near impossible to alter the way racist’s feel. I fail to see the institutional forces at work in this regard
December 17th, 2012 at 2:15 PM
so…5g of crack gets the same punishment as 500g of powder? cmon.
nevermind the fact the contra/CIA shadiness that’s been spun into a conspiracy theory about fueling the crack epidemic…
December 17th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
What drug epidemic isn’t linked to a CIA conspiracy?
/I realize there are some, but you get the point
December 17th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
i do…that the CIA’s making sure the mechanisms are in place for politicians to rationalize that institutional racism.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:25 PM
Depending how conspiratorial you want to get, it could be argued cocaine is a much more lucrative product than crack, and this is the motivation behind the laws.
This isn’t my formal position, but I believe American drugs laws are so convoluted and mired in political corruption that it’s difficult to deduce true motives
December 17th, 2012 at 2:27 PM
i can get pretty, prett-ay conspiratorial, fyi.
December 17th, 2012 at 2:33 PM
Racist tweet by somebody from Alabama? I am shocked!
December 17th, 2012 at 2:33 PM
aight, lets do this…
i believe that every conspiracy can be traced back to the octopus, the consortium of powerfully connected individuals who are, subversively, making sure the social control mechanisms well established remain in place to benefit their clientele, i.e. the wealthiest of the wealthy…
would you like to know more?
December 17th, 2012 at 5:10 PM
Having gone to high school, college, and working in Alabama off and on the last 20+ years, I can’t believe the comments on AL.com article weren’t a whole lot worse.
The year Charles Woodson won the Heisman, I stopped at a rural gas station to fill up….a couple sweet old ladies were in there talking about college football and the Heisman….one of them out of the blue says “yeah, but they will prob just give it to that n****r”. My jaw hit the floor. I can’t even count the number of times a stranger in that state has used the term to me just assuming I was the same way.
December 17th, 2012 at 5:13 PM
What are the qualifications to be the uninvited walk-on long snapper at a football powerhouse like N. Alabama? Gotta be just some talent-less kid who really wanted in 10 years to be able to say he played football at college.
