R.A. Dickey Will Be Traded to Blue Jays, If He Agrees to a Contract Extension By Tuesday
Rumors of a R.A. Dickey to Toronto deal involving top Blue Jays prospect catcher Travis D’Arnaud have been flying for two days. It appears a deal is finally in place, with one contingency. According to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi, an agreement in principle has been reached between Toronto and the Mets, contingent on Dickey agreeing to a contract extension with the Blue Jays by 2 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.
The players involved in the deal: Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and what is described as a “non-elite prospect” going to the Blue Jays, in exchange for catcher Travis D’Arnaud, right handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard, veteran catcher John Buck and another prospect.

It’s easier to swallow considering this drought should alter ownership’s tact, as well as scare away some of the pink-hatted Sweet Caroline singers that have ruined Fenway

Do not like this deal at all.

well, the Blue Jays do need some insurance just in case all their pitchers get hurt or bomb again like 2012. Plus, you get rid of John buck! win win!

Maybe I’m just overly attached to prospects. I can’t stomach moving D’Arnaud because he’s MLB ready, plays a premium position and the Jays current catcher blows. I also think Noah has potential to be awesome and MLB ready in 2 years. Better win a WS or this is going to look real bad in a couple of years.

Anyone know what happened with the Dickey-Mets contract negotiations? Have not followed closely

I love the deal. I was just hoping they’d throw in Lawrie.

Hope so.

Dickey is owed $5M this year, and wanted a two year extension totaling $26-28 million, depending on the source. Best offer the Mets gave was two years at $20 million.
Its hard for me to believe that for the Mets it was about the money, especially after they just gave Wright $137 million. I think they were committed to moving him when they believed he was at the peak of his value, and intentionally low-balled him to grease the wheels for a trade they always desired. Hopefully it works out for RA. He was a great story last year, and as a Mets fan, one of the two brights spots. Santana’s no-no being the other.

No, no, no.
