Tyrus Thomas’ Wife, Ben Gordon’s Fiancée & Friends in Handcuffs the Morning After Brawl [Video]

On Tuesday night, four women were arrested outside a Charlotte night club following a party thrown by Chris Paul. Among the arrested were Tyrus Thomas’ wife Jamie Patrice Thomas and Ben Gordon’s fiancée, Sascha Smith. There was a fight that left Thomas and Smith with the bumps and bruises you see in their mugshots. When the police showed up, Thomas and her friends tried to drive away and hit a security guard. The women were dragged from the car by police.
Above is video of the four women being escorted from the police station in handcuffs and put in police cars. One of the women, Morgan Williams, even tries to kick a local television cameraman. The class just doesn’t stop.

December 14th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
They stand in the way of a constructive discussion on the issue. The power of the gun lobby and the scared shitlessness of those who cling to guns (fuck you mikenyc, just fuck you) of the gubbermint taking their guns is just too far reaching. We’ve had eight mass shootings this year at least and not a goddamn thing is going to change. All it took in Britain was Hungerford and Dunblane, and a few years later gun sales were banned. Has Britain fallen into a sea of anarchy and liberalism? No.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:14 PM
When we all know the real heroes are ones that dehumanize a tragic event to promote their own personal opinions.

Its hard as shit to get into my kids’ school would to hear how this fuck gained entry.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
This is such a bullshit line of thinking. It’s not even remotely dehumanizing it. So were all the pushes for increased reporting of mental health diagnoses following the Tech shooting dehumanizing?
December 14th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
Though Wayne I will say this: the people using it as a venue to bitch at Republicans and the NRA alone are indeed assholes, neither side of the aisle has the stones to address the issue.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
Its hard as shit to get into my kids’ school would to hear how this fuck gained entry.
i’m in suburban chicago, and it’s not hard for me to get in my kids’ school. ring a bell, they ask what’s up by intercom, you say ‘volunteer’ or whatever, as long as it’s not, ‘here to shoot kids’ they buzz you in
better question me and wife are dealing with is how or whether to talk with our kids about this. our twin kindergartners are just home (half day K) and she asked people to text her updates rather than turning on TV
we usually talk with them about the real world but this might make them feel unsafe in school
December 14th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
also have a first grader in same school. if office staff knew this guy, some are saying he was a parent of a kid there, then entry was not likely difficult. not a location where there might be security or metal detectors

im really conflicted about this issue…im pro-gun because i don’t trust the government, but there are more attention-starved psycopaths than ever it seems with easy access to handguns.
in either case, i feel like i should keep my 9mm in my house.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:23 PM
Anytime it’s a young gunman, the parents have to be blamed to a degree. They are often guilty of not taking necessary steps in dealing with their deeply disturbed child. Yet nobody in the media ever covers this angle
December 14th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Well this guy murdered his parents this morning from the sound of it so I don’t know if there’s much interview potential.

what a crappy way to grow up. I’m only 31 and can clearly remember the only thing I was worried about in elementary school was how many minutes were left till recess/lunch/end of the day. I can’t imagine my little kid feeling anxiety over the possibility of being shot during social studies class.

And if we’re not allowed to be pissed off now, when are we allowed to be? There’s been what, close to five hundred people killed in gun violence in Chicago thus far this year? Naturally we don’t care about that in terms of national discourse because it’s just black kids, but on the hole we as a country average around thirty thousand corpses with bullets in them each year, why the hell aren’t we allowed to talk about trying to deal with that?

When I was in Boulder, CO last Spring, we went to say goodbye to the girlfriend’s niece and nephews. I was amazed that I walked right in to an elementary school, strolled the two main halls, and into a classroom, without challenge.

“Naturally we don’t care about that in terms of national discourse because it’s just black kids, but on the hole we as a country average around thirty thousand corpses with bullets in them each year, why the hell aren’t we allowed to talk about trying to deal with that?”
Obviously, if something could be done, I think everyone would be on board. The problem is that you seem to assume that those who are committing the gun violence in Chicago and this nut in Conn, would not do what they do if guns were outlawed. I don’t think there is any proof of that. Hell, that guy in, what was it, Norway?, that shot up that kids’ camp did so in a country that has very strict gun laws. And there’s the fact that gun related deaths are DOWN in D.C. since the passage of the pro-gun laws there (can’t remember if it was a concealed carry law or not).
I think the problem lies in the thinking that laws or government can somehow remove the crazy from someone that unfortunately is a part of human nature.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:44 PM
I think the problem lies in the thinking that laws or government can somehow remove the crazy from someone that unfortunately is a part of human nature.
It doesn’t seem to be part of human nature in some other countries. At least not to the same degree.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Only feasible solution is to do a better job of identifying and treating these disturbed individuals earlier.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
in other countries, the crazies are in power and using their guns against their own people. see: syria, chechnya, libya, etc.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:46 PM
It’s not something that’s going to be fixed in the next few years, because of the number of guns already out there.
But the fundamental flaw with the argument you just made is this: the guns in the hands of the criminals are not handmade guns, they are legally produced guns. It is the proliferation and ease of access to legal guns that makes the ones obtained illegally easy to get. Every handgun used in a gun death was legally produced at some point.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:47 PM
my first thought on that ms is that there are a whole lot of countries in which civil war and suicide attacks are a daily worry
just my first thought, i know no-filter is risky
December 14th, 2012 at 2:47 PM
December 14th, 2012 at 2:47 PM
in other countries, the crazies are in power and using their guns against their own people. see: syria, chechnya, libya, etc.
I was talking more about countries in Europe. The instant response to which is the Norwegian mass shooting of last summer. But the frequency of violence in schools does not seem to be anything in other western countries what it is here.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
Getting rid of guns is a pipe dream though
December 14th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
Yes, Spence, that 9mm is going to do wonders for you if the gov’t decides to take you down. I don’t trust the gov’t anymore than you do but people don’t seem to realize the 2nd amendment was put in place at a time when civilians had the same weaponry (by an large) as the military: muskets. These days, we have no chance. We just seem to use them against each other. If the gov’t decides to take you down, they use unmanned drones…not much any weapon you may have in your house is going to do to help you.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:48 PM
agreed…it’s incredibly easy to purchase a gun at a gun show.
frankly, i think chris rock had it right…make ammo so expensive every shot would incur such a cost that it’d be impossible to use for anything other than hunting or self defense.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
it’s the fucking principle of the thing, man.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
While I agree that mental health needs to be a huge part of this debate, two things.
1) It’s not an entirely separate issue. The Virginia Tech shooter was deemed mentally ill by a Commonwealth of Virginia agency, but was still legally allowed to purchase firearms. Pushes have been made since then to address this kind of thing, but it’s an issue that is tied together.
2) We live in a society where it is more socially “normal” to admit to owning a gun than admit to needing mental counseling.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
In this country it is. We’ve made our own grave.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:50 PM
I don’t trust the gov’t anymore than you do but people don’t seem to realize the 2nd amendment was put in place at a time when civilians had the same weaponry (by an large) as the military: muskets.
That’s because it was the citizens who made up the militia. Thus the first part of the 2nd Amendment: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state…”
December 14th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
This misses the point. Obviously one person stands no chance against the govt. The point of guns is the threat of revolution/resistance on a large scale
December 14th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
“the guns in the hands of the criminals are not handmade guns, they are legally produced guns. It is the proliferation and ease of access to legal guns that makes the ones obtained illegally easy to get. Every handgun used in a gun death was legally produced at some point.”
Well, what you are advocating for is a total ban on all guns? Leaving guns only in the hands of the government, be it the military, police, etc.?
Like spence, I don’t trust any government enough to advocate for that position. And history is pretty full of examples of dictators and madmen who, as one of their initial power grabs, ensure that no one but the government has access to weapons.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:51 PM
if we successfully banned guns, would the crazies use machetes? i mean is there something about the gun that pushes crazy thoughts into action?
my angle is, one on one in a fight, a guy might use a weapon, because he fears a beating, but these incidents are not a gunman fearing for himself. the weapon seems designed for maximum damage in a short amount of time
and that’s another thing, when was the last time a female was a mass killer? ban males
December 14th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Totally agree on these points. That is the cultural change that needs to happen
December 14th, 2012 at 2:53 PM
Every person in this country could have a handgun and it wouldn’t matter one goddamn bit to the government if there were some kind of revolution.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:54 PM
I don’t trust the government on a lot of things.
But I don’t live in Somalia. I don’t feel the need to justify the legality of assault rifles and the death of a fuckload of children on the fear of Randall Flagg coming to power.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:56 PM
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. It wouldn’t completely eliminate guns, but if it kept guns from a few crazies’ hands it would be worthwhile. Imagine telling a parent who lost a kid today that it wouldn’t work so we just shouldn’t try. Looking at situations like this tells me everything that can be done should be.
This is just truly horrible.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
if every person in the country had a handgun, we’d have a lot more dead politicians.
obviously it’s ridiculous to claim an armed populace intimidates the government, but if a tank’s gonna run me over, i at least wanna take potshots at it.
December 14th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
Debatable. US military has struggled against insurgents abroad, in much smaller #s

I don’t feel the need to justify the legality of assault rifles and the death of a fuckload of children on the fear of Randall Flagg coming to power.
this was my thought. we haven’t had a madman in almost 300 years of government, our system wouldn;t let one do shit if all of a sudden our previously sane prez wigged out. brings up images of martin sheen using a baby to shield himself from walken

when will there be more unrest in our country than there was in the 60s/70s? what would it take to motivate an organization capable of being a true threat? our country is too big

we had reagan and andrew jackson. that’s not crazy enough?
December 14th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
“we haven’t had a madman in almost 300 years of government”
Those 300 years also came during a time when the gun laws have been as they are now.
Meanwhile, a mere 70 or 80 years ago, some dude confiscated all the arms, killed millions of Jews, and threw the world into utter chaos.
December 14th, 2012 at 3:01 PM

maybe, but then would the military do his bidding? dude would be arrested
December 14th, 2012 at 3:01 PM
Debatable. US military has struggled against insurgents abroad, in much smaller #s
This is really what this debate is coming to? The question of when and if the government turned the military loose on civil society could we “take ‘em”? I feel that some perspective has been lost.

not sure what problems you are referring to. these things are done by disturbed people who get their hands on weapons. the only possible cure is to rid the country of all guns, legal and illegal. this is not possible, we have to live with the needles in the haystack
December 14th, 2012 at 3:07 PM
It’s second amendment justification.
Not a very good one. I’ve heard lots of arguments supporting gun ownership, most of which view guns as personal property which the protection of from the government is a cornerstone of western republicanism, but a justification which focuses on whether gun owners would successfully prevent the U.S. Army from instituting martial law and trampling on individual rights sounds like an argument that two 12 year olds would have after deciding which of their fathers could beat up the other one.

Yeah. And the Weimar Republic already had gun registration laws.
What the Nazis DID do was ban gun ownership for Jews.
Along with:
Extended the length of carrying permits
Lowered the age limit for buying a gun.
Removed all restrictions from rifle purchases.

What point did I make that I then disagreed with?
And if we’re really going to have this discussion, let me say that a military that has Tomahawk missiles, 10 nuclear powered aircraft carriers that carry 80 aircraft apiece, B-52 bombers, M-2 Bradley fighting vehicles, and M-1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks is not afraid of Cousin Phil and his two hunting rifles. The notion that that is some sort of martial law is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous assertions that I’ve ever heard. What prevents the military from imposing martial law is that the military leadership in this country has largely–though not entirely–throughout its history respected the civilian leadership appointed and elected over it.

“Uh the Nazis didn’t confiscate guns, that’s not even remotely accurate guys.”
When it comes to the oppressed under the Nazi regime, you know, the Jews, yes, yes they did:
Regulations Against Jews’ Possession of Weapons
11 November 1938
With a basis in §31 of the Weapons Law of 18 March 1938 (Reichsgesetzblatt I, p.265), Article III of the Law on the Reunification of Austria with Germany of 13 March 1938 (Reichsgesetzblatt I, p. 237), and §9 of the Führer and Chancellor’s decree on the administration of the Sudeten-German districts of 1 October 1938 (Reichsgesetzblatt I, p 1331) are the following ordered:
§1
Jews (§5 of the First Regulations of the German Citizenship Law of 14 November 1935, Reichsgesetzblatt I, p. 1333) are prohibited from acquiring, possessing, and carrying firearms and ammunition, as well as truncheons or stabbing weapons. Those now possessing weapons and ammunition are at once to turn them over to the local police authority.
§2
Firearms and ammunition found in a Jew’s possession will be forfeited to the government without compensation.
§3
The Minister of the Interior may make exceptions to the Prohibition in §1 for Jews who are foreign nationals. He can entrust other authorities with this power.
§4
Whoever willfully or negligently violates the provisions of §1 will be punished with imprisonment and a fine. In especially severe cases of deliberate violations, the punishment is imprisonment in a penitentiary for up to five years.
§5
For the implementation of this regulation, the Minister of the Interior waives the necessary legal and administrative provisions.
§6
This regulation is valid in the state of Austria and in the Sudeten-German districts.
Berlin, 11 November 1938
Minister of the Interior

“Has this clown never read Godwin’s law?”
From your link, you smug prick:
The law and its corollaries would not apply to discussions covering known mainstays of Nazi Germany such as genocide, eugenics or racial superiority, nor, more debatably, to a discussion of other totalitarian regimes or ideologies, if that was the explicit topic of conversation, since a Nazi comparison in those circumstances may be appropriate, in effect committing the fallacist’s fallacy. Whether it applies to humorous use or references to oneself is open to interpretation, since this would not be a fallacious attack against a debate opponent.
So, in summary, suck it you Canadian douchebag.

“Do you not think comparison of gun control laws with the Holocaust is hyperbolic?”
I don’t think you understand the point I was making. I think you’re the one that’s making the wrong assumptions insofar as you seem to think that I’m arguing that strict gun control laws will lead to a Holocaust. Totalitarianism always seems to go hand in hand with the abridgement of just about every single one of those rights enshrined in our Bill of Rights, the 2nd amendment being one of them. In Germany, the Nazis, when coming into power, had the benefit of gun control laws that were initially designed to keep them from having guns. Then, in 1938, they expanded those laws so that no Jews could own guns. Then they did what they did to the Jews. There are a number of historians who have argued that the Nazis would not have been able to practice their extermination of Jews as successfully as they did but for the gun control laws which were prevalent in Eastern Europe at that time.

I think a fair analysis of how well people resist a government, outside or otherwise, can be done amongst the underground opposition groups in World War II. Many historians have argued that most underground movements, even with the help of SOE and OSS parachuting in supplies, made little or not impression on German control of their nation. Of the 60 divisions of the Germany Army in France on D-Day, none were assigned to internal security, despite France having one of the most celebrated underground movements of the war. The Polish Home Army, which rose in Warsaw in late 1944, was supplied by the SOE and OSS and caused considerable damage to Warsaw but the SS was able to crush all opposition in less than 60 days. Czech operatives assisted by British SOE agents assassinated Richard Heydrich in Lidice, Czechoslovakia. The response was the complete extermination of the village of Lidice and all of its inhabitants and the complete destruction of the Czech underground. One prosecutor at Nuremberg, when explaining the extent of German force during the pacification of Greece, proclaimed that in Greece “there are a 1,000 Lidices”. The only underground movement which had any large scale and sustained success was the Yugloslav Partisans led by Tito. And they had the mountainous terrain of the Balkans on their side.
So based on that, I think its clear that you can see why I don’t rate civilian gun ownership as an impediment to those forces which would rob a people of liberty, very highly.
December 14th, 2012 at 3:53 PM

December 14th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
and, yet, despite that and the OSS/SOE involvement with guerrilla groups one of the greek insurgencies created a whole other host of problems for the allies.
Namely, the Greek Civil War. The amount of communists in the SOE also led to their support of Tito’s Partisans over the Royalist supporting Chetniks….which greatly aided Tito’s rise to power and establishment of a communist government in Yugoslavia after the war.
