Why Did Referee Courtney Kirkland Try to Block a Kris Humphries Free Throw? [Video]
During Wednesday night’s Nets-Raptors game, Kris Humphries went to the line for two free throws. After making his first, he is given the ball to shoot his second. That’s when referee Courtney Kirkland realized that Jose Calderon was waiting to check in. Instead of blowing his whistle and waving his arms, he ran at Humphries and attempted to block his free throw attempt. Why did Kirkland not just blow the whistle? Will we ever see anything like this again?

Psst…it’s spelled “Referee”

I hope this becomes a trend. I would much rather see refs call a foul by trying to impede play than hear them blowing whistles over and over. Courtney Kirkland is onto something here

In football, that “Defensive Player Unimpeded to the QB” call would be non-existent.
Tony Corrente: “Close enough…fuck cutting that one off.”

NFL refs could do the same kind of thing if they were patrolling the field atop some sort of suped-up Segway

He has to get a one game suspension, right? Just for making an ass of himself while wearing the uniform

I don’t know what motivated him. Is there secretly an explosive within the ball that goes off if an unofficial free throw is taken?
