A-Rod Owns Some Slummy Rat & Roach-Infested Apartments in Florida
An apartment complex owned by Newport Property Ventures is in really bad shape. Newport Property Ventures was founded by Alex Rodriguez. Thus, people will now call A-Rod a slumlord. From WTSP:
Newport Riverside, located near the Hillsborough River off of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., has numerous possible code violations, from fire hazards to rotting staircases. Residents say courtyard lights have gone months without fixing, while holes in walls and windows often do the same.
Other problems include mold, poor drainage, and shaky balconies.
This has been going on long enough that the New York Times talked about the property in 2007. There is no word on the condition of the 14 complexes run by Newport Property Ventures that are not located near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. [WTSP]

But Elgin Baylor doesn’t work for him anymore.

Of course Arod’s apartments look like shit. It’s after August. Come back in April and they’ll look great.

Are there any hood areas in America where this isn’t the major road?

I got a pretty good idea.
You know what’s sad? Martin Luther King stood for non violence. And I don’t care where you are in America, if you’re on Martin Luther King Boulevard, there’s some violence going down. – Chris Rock

Ha. I know those exact apartments. Yea, it is not the worst area of town but not great either. FYI, that road used to be called Buffalo avenue.

Saginaw, although they are too busy trying to get a main road named after Stevie Wonder to notice.

“Why are you in the game?”, “Why did you take that shot?”, “You’re out of shape!”

In Pittsburgh the only one named after him is the MLK Busway, but it’s the busway that services some of the most heavily black neighborhoods in the city (Homewood, Wilkingsburg, East Liberty). Probably not a coincidence.

The only thing shocking here is that THIS was not used as the photo in the story.

I wouldn’t say it’s in the ‘hood, but there is a scenic road that borders Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill River in Philly that is officially titled “Martin Luther King Blvd”. It is on the opposite side of Boathouse Row.
Most people actually refer to it by it’s older name, West River Drive.
