The Wizards Could Have Had James Harden, But Wouldn’t Part with Bradley Beal & Chris Singleton
Hey Washington Wizards fans, great news! You were in the James Harden mix! Well, until your owner found out he would have had to give the former Thunder 6th man a 5-year, $80 million deal.
team owner Ted Leonsis was unwilling to commit to what would have been a roughly $80 million, five-year contract for the high-scoring player
There’s some debate as to what the Thunder wanted from Washington in return for Harden, but rookie Bradley Beal and 2nd year wing Chris Singleton were definitely two of the parts, according to the Washington Post.
Washington, the worst team in the NBA at 3-15, could have had a titillating backcourt of John Wall (when he returns from injury) and Harden. Last night, they started Jordan Crawford and Beal (35 percent FGs, 31 percent from three) in New Orleans.
James Harden is currently 5th in the NBA in scoring (24.7 ppg).
Given that Oklahoma City got Kevin Martin and promising Jeremy Lamb (currently in the D-League) in return for Harden, I think the Thunder made the right decision (though I like Singleton as a solid reserve).

This doesn’t seem that bad to me. The Wizards could be a shitty team with a max contract guy but instead they’re a shitty team with a rookie who should be pretty good and, uh, Chris Singleton.

Daily Thunder had a post on this. Gist of it is the Thunder and Wizards might have talked about it but the Wizards probably weren’t seriously “in the mix” at the time Harden was traded.
Also last I heard Lamb got recalled from the D-League, but he’s going to be going back and forth all year probably.

Well not really sure how that happened but worked out all right I guess.

The Twitter chick (nsfw?) that showed up in the Bynum post to defend him? If that’s a woman, she has one hell of a pair of…man hands.
/imagines Bynum’s Crying Game reaction

I liked this post better when I first read it on Deadspin days ago.
/again? back to back?

You mean the one from this morning?

You know, I can’t really blame the Wizards here. Thye’re trying to build a young team, they’re not going to compete right away even with Harden there, and then they would have to give him a large contract to stay in town. Keep building with Beal (Everyone believes he’s going to be a stud – he’s 19, I don’t care what he’s shooting this year in his rookie season) and see what you can get through the draft.

There’s no reason to condemn the Wizards for this. Harden’s ppg is an inflated stat, plus he’s a ball dominater, aka a bad pairing with Wall

Shatner! Are you in Colorado yet?
December 12th, 2012 at 6:46 PM
We have a stripper from a high end strip club posting here now? Well, that is somewhat surprising.
December 12th, 2012 at 6:49 PM
Nope. Last week at Clear Channel Lex, then moving in January. Can’t wait to talk…UC football…
December 12th, 2012 at 6:50 PM
She doesn’t appear to be “high end” at all.

Shatner, congrats on the upcoming move

Just a heads up if you are planning on talking about Colorado football on the air…it’s CU despite it being the University of Colorado.

Anyone following this O’Reilly-Whitlock feud? Glad to see someone with an audience calling Whitlock out for his emotional fit masquerading as a dumb argument
December 12th, 2012 at 7:09 PM
Except that the Wizards have bombed in the draft. That’s a great plan if you have a competent GM that doesn’t draft Jan Vesely. Who would you rather have? Okafor/Ariza for 20 mil next year or Harden for 16? Seems like a no brainer.
December 12th, 2012 at 7:13 PM
haha I’m not going to be air, at least not yet. Have an interview for a producing position at CC in Denver, but who knows. Really moving to attend the University of Denver. Thanks though!

she probably works the Tuesday afternoon shift.
I guess. at the same time, it IS O’Reilly, and he apparently addressed it as part of a larger white whine rant. Whitlock vs. O’Reilly is way too much ego for one country to handle.

If that’s a woman, she has one hell of a pair of…man hands.
for research purposes, I looked at about 40 of the pictures she posted. There’s no way that’s a man.

If drafting was an exact science, everyone would have great teams. Drafts are crap shoots. I’m not going to kill a team on picking a guy that practically every one thought would grow into a decent player.
The Okafor/Ariza moves I’ll give you. I really thought the Wizards would be better this year, but we’ll have to see how they mesh with Wall.

She doesn’t appear to be “high end” at all.
how can you tell that when you aren’t even in a darkened room, holding a 13 dollar beer?
December 12th, 2012 at 7:21 PM
Won’t they be expiring contracts next year?
December 12th, 2012 at 7:21 PM
Just remembered Okafor is being paid nearly $14 mil to average 6 points and 5 rebounds.
December 12th, 2012 at 7:27 PM
and they still owe Nene $42 million through 2016.
December 12th, 2012 at 7:31 PM
I’m confused here…Did they not make the deal because of the pending extension or Beal/Singleton?
December 12th, 2012 at 7:33 PM
If OKC is smart for not considering Harden a max player, why would the Wizards refusal to trade away Beal for him be considered dumb?
December 12th, 2012 at 8:18 PM
So we’re saying the verdict isn’t still out on Beal anymore? Gotcha.
December 12th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
So we’re saying the verdict isn’t still out on Beal anymore? Gotcha.
It goes: 1) Jamarcus, 2) Jimbo Fisher, 3) Terrelle Pryor’s college career, 4) Bradley Beal

But, Rivers cross-over is just KILLER!
December 12th, 2012 at 10:03 PM
Harden is overrated. Don’t get me wrong, he is a very good player, but I’m not sold on him being the #1 option for any title contending team.
December 12th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
yes. yes it is.

The Wizards would be smart to build their team up through the draft like OKC. But then again, the Wizards dont have anyone in their front office smart enough to capitalize on their lottery picks every year…
