Indiana Girls High School Basketball Team Wins 107-2
Bloomington South High School met Arlington High School in a girls basketball game on Tuesday night in Indiana. If you bet Bloomington South at -104.5, you probably sweated this one out.
Arlington’s only points came on free throws in the second and third quarter. Needless to say, people are up in arms, but according the Bloomington South coach, he played “all nine of his players.” Whatever the strategy was, it was a beating so severe that ESPN.com felt compelled to mention girls high school basketball.
Current Indiana Hoosiers point guard Jordan Hull attended Bloomington South, but as far as we can tell neither he, nor any of his Hoosier teammates participated in this game wearing a wig, Ladybugs style. [rtv6]

I have no problem when pros do this (if it was possible in the pros), but this coach was being an asshole.

Obvious comment…
Why isn’t this coach just running out the clock? There’s no high school shot clock in girls basketball. This is inexcusable.

When this comes up every now and again I always point out my senior year homecoming football game we got beat 90 – 7 and at no point was the opposing team trying to run up the score. They had third stringers in before half. We had a shitload of injured starters and just sucked. Sometimes teams are just bad. Shouldn’t mean the other team should sit there and dribble out the clock which benefits nobody.

Oh my god yes

Obviously, I have no idea how they ran up the score that much. But let’s just assume the coach took out the best players, stopped any sort of pressure defense and told his players to stop fast-breaking. If he did all that and the score still was what it was, then I’d say there’s not much that can be done about it.

I am guessing Arilington’s stands had some Grandma’s holding babies while the mom’s played.

yes. all you can ask of a coach is to not press. to ask the girls to slow down, not try, don;t shoot.. tis bullshit

which girls are not on birth control?

Games last 32 minutes (unless Indiana is different than common high school rules), which means 3.3 points per minute. There is no shot clock, that’s a pretty insane scoring rate. I don’t know how you get there unless you turn the opponent over constantly, or the other team keeps shooting every 15 seconds.

Dribbling out the clock and passing the ball around would be more insulting than the final score was. Play ball, the score is the score.
December 12th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Like Lisk said, there is no way you can score that much in a game of girls basketball unless you are pressing and forcing turnovers and shooting quickly.
December 12th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I think there is a difference between playing ball and full-court pressing and jacking up shots constantly. This isn’t the NFL.

Not only that, but you couldn’t get this on DVD anywhere last time I checked. Had to order the VHS of it to add to the collection.

pressing and putting up shots is playing ball. Coaches choosing not to do so for the sake of the other team in a blowout is a courtesy, it shouldn’t be an expectation. The coach isn’t being paid to coach both teams.
