Count on San Diego being 2x pricier than Memphis. But there’s lots of ways to make those dollars stretch. I like Memphis a lot.

Bay area is the place to be in CA.

It is pretty sweet. Visited there long time ago, back when I was stationed at Mather. I actually liked Sacto/Rancho Cordova, as well. I’m sure that area has changed big-time since I was last there.

My dilemma is moving to Memphis is the logical move, out of loyalty to my parents.

Selfishly, I wanna be near the ocean. I don’t ski, and snow is a nuisance overall. Colorado needs the water, but I like rain a bunch more than snow.

Overall (and the old heads here already know this about me), I’m good with my retirement pay. My concern about an area is, if unemployment is high you get a lot of idle folk looking for something to get into. Idle hands, etc., etc.

b) Renting’s a bitch; it seems easier to buy. Price depends on the area, of course. Closer to the beach is pricey. Check out zillow.
c) Chula Vista is nicknamed Chulajuana (as in Tijuana). The Eastlake area is growing and is quite nice. San Diego proper? Very congested.
d) Yes, it’s expensive to live out here. But that’s California, not just SD. Gas prices can get stupid.
e)Inland, it gets hot in the summer so you might need A/C. You’ll be running the heat in the winter; it was 38 degrees when I drove to work this morning.
f) People who want to work find it. Lazy fuckers? Not so much.
g) I work with quite a few middle age divorcees. They’re all horny as hell. Women out here seem really laid back and open-minded. And there’s tons of fun stuff to do.
h) Both sports teams suck.

I don’t want to hog the post, and don’t want to step over the line and embarass you, but here goes:

a) Retired military, so living near a base is good for me.

b) Looking at a single-level house/townhouse. What are the average prices?

c) San Diego proper or Chula Vista? I’ve visited both, but haven’t been in the area since ’08.

d) Cost of living? I’ve seen on different websites that it’s approx. 40% more expensive than the Springs.

e) Utilities, insurance – are the costs there higher than average?

f) Unemployment – are most folk able to find work?

g) I’m divorced/middle-aged. The Springs is more a couples-oriented area. How about out there? Are there women out there unafraid of a funny-looking black guy (LOL)? I do have a great personality, though…

I can tell you one thing about this area: the ladies, oh, the ladies.

I plan to move out of COS in ’14. Either to Memphis (family) or SD (ocean).

My wife’s from there.

She grew up in Southhaven. Her parents live in Hernando

My dad lives a few blocks north of Westwood High. His neighborhood is so blighted, he has to go to Southhaven to find a decent grocery store.

You gotta cross a state line just to get decent produce? WTH?
