I don’t think there is any doubt that this game is a LOT more important to the Pats than to the Texans. The Texans still control their home field destiny even with a loss, while if the Pats lose, they tumble down to the 4 seed. And they still play SF next week.

I hope the Pats and Broncos end up with the 2 and 3 seeds, so that it is possible that the Texans will face Flacco and then only one of Manning or Brady.

IMO this game only matters for seeding. Barring something ridiculously unexpected, my perspective on either team’s playoff chances won’t be altered

I was home briefly during lunch and put ESPN on. The narrative on there is that the Texans have built this game up so much that it could be “devastating” to their team psyche if they lose. But if they win well it’s just another win.

I think ms621 has it about right. I have Pats to win and cover. This game means enough and they have the rest etc to get it done. They want this more than the SF game. If they lose by 10+ tonight, I dont think they have a chance get to the SB

damn…i remember that line NE had with ty warren, seymour and wilfork. good god was that a great DL.

Looking back at the numbers, they had a few years with top-5 in the league sacks. Just a few though… usually 14-25. Patriots haven’t ever really prioritized sacks on defense.

Even though only 53% of public money is on the Pats (according to iOdds), that line has moved all the way to Pats -6.5 today. Big move. Vegas really trying to get money on the Texans. I fear this means the Pats win by a couple of TDs.

Yes and no. It was that way back in the first Superbowl victory, moving McGinest on and off the line. Even back in the first Superbowl (1996) with Parcells. Though I couldn’t name a single interior lineman on that team.

Someone asked Bedard on twitter if the Pats might take Seymour back after the season. The answer was a derisive no.

I wonder why? They took Branch back. It isn’t like Seymour is a first-rate asshole like Asante Samuel. Maybe because Seymour took the whole situation too personally, creating sour grapes on both sides

b) sctrojans is right bout the real alex mack. probably remembers him from cal/USC games.

First off, Alex Mack is a beast. As for the 3rd down argument, no pure nose stays in for pash rush. There are teams that don’t use any dt’s in clear passing downs

Last night the Lions had Suh rushing from an upright position on third down a few times.

I’m sure in my post I was talking about the Patriots and generalizing too far. A team running mostly 3-4 is different than a team running mostly 4-3, in assignments and goals… but when a specific team switches between the two, not much changes.
