Bobby Petrino Will Be The Next Coach at Western Kentucky
Western Kentucky lost head coach Willie Taggart to South Florida. The Hilltoppers wasted no time hiring Bobby Petrino to replace him, less than a calendar year after he led Arkansas to 11 wins in the SEC. This is an interesting move and one that should become interesting quickly. His first two opponents will be Kentucky and Tennessee.
Few would delude themselves into thinking Petrino is building a nest in Bowling Green. He was a flight risk at better jobs. It just became clear that his stain has not diminished in the intervening months. Even some desperate AQ schools would not consider him. He had to get back to work, at a place like a Western Kentucky, and rebuild his reputation. No better place spot than Bible Country?
Even if he wins and moves on, that could be good for a program in Western Kentucky’s position. Arkansas State has had consecutive one and done coaches with Freeze and Malzahn, but it’s hard to argue the program is not better off in 2012 than it was in 2010. Teams at that level don’t keep coaches, but winning builds the brand. I
What’s not clear is whether Petrino can work miracles in the short-term. His offense will not be a smooth transition from Willie Taggart’s “pound the lead running back until he collapses form exhaustion” attack that saw Bobby Rainey carry the ball more than 700 times in 2010 and 2011.

I was just up on campus a month ago… surprisingly pretty, quaint campus. Very hilly, as you might expect.

The Corvette museum is there, so he can upgrade to another brand of death machine.
December 10th, 2012 at 1:50 PM
The one in Kentucky makes Corvettes. The one in Ohio…has a football team that wears Browns knockoff unis.

The bitch of it is I’ve been to the one in Kentucky. Would stop there on the way to Dale Hollow back in the day, just for some reason never even thought about the fact that the school was somewhere else. I am beyond ashamed.

Kentucky Gov. Cuts Education Funding While Preserving Tax Breaks For Biblically-Themed Amusement Park
That looks like a headline from The Simpsons or The Onion.

Always thought that rivalry with Toledo seemed kind of random.
Goddamn Ohio sucks.

In the Winter, BGSU is the one campus that is more painful to walk than Penn State.
December 10th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
I may just go watch the Little Caesars Bowl after all.

BGSU had orange before the Browns did. In fact the first three Browns training camps were there. I interviewed a # of those guys about those training camps.

HOW THE FUCK ARE THERE TWO BOWLING GREENS?
You are going to be pretty pissed when I tell you there are more than two Bowling Greens. Like triple or quadruple that number.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
That theme park ended up getting put on hold because of lack of funding, so I doubt it really impacted the budget at all.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Though for the low low price of $500 a month you can donate at the “beam” level to help build it!

My favorite is the Kentucky Bowling Green.
the largest city in the United States named Bowling Green
It is like they are pissed off they aren’t the only Bowling Green.

The benefit of being there for law school was that we only had to go to class in one building (once the building was built and we weren’t in the old business buildings, only took two years longer than promised at orientation!) so there wasn’t much walking around campus. But getting to the new gym from the on campus apartments was not fun.

December 10th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
Nearly half the players on that list come from the two ineligible teams.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Amazing to me that Petrino couldn’t get a better job. Guy is one of the premier chicken salad chefs in college football.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:25 PM
go bucks!
December 10th, 2012 at 2:27 PM
He’s gotta do his two years in purgatory, then he’ll move on to a SEC/Big 12 job.
December 10th, 2012 at 2:28 PM
WKU actually has a pretty sick little stadium. Lots of upgrades and a cool campus.

Graduated from WKU. Great basketball history. Something like top-20 in all-time wins. School won the I-AA football tourney when I was there. Harbaugh senior was the coach.
Really cool hire, even if it’s only for a year.

Name one other school with the Hilltoppers nickname. You have 30 seconds.
December 10th, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Some lucky school will get a great coach next offseason. Miss St? Mizzou? Texas Tech?
December 10th, 2012 at 3:24 PM
If no one guessed … West Liberty.
