For most hunting nuts, it’s just a chance to get a third deer. Or a third chance to get a first deer.

As it happens, I own a muzzle loader. But I bought it as a decoration from the previous homeowner. It works, or so they tell me. I’ve got a box of stuff that you cram in the barrel to make it go boom.

I have a friend that almost exclusively feeds his family on deer meat (and other hunted game) from October – June.

That is cool. I’m always impressed when I hear of a guy doing that. Long as he doesn’t pull a Robin Yount, it’s all good.

I didn’t know operating muskets were still around. Thought they went bye-bye long ago.

A bucket of water is much cleaner and way less humane, so I generally use that strategy.

Used the same hammer technique when my dog caught a baby rabbit and dropped it next to the dinner table as we are eating.

Off topic – while cleaning up for our pending move found a few mouse droppings in the basement storage area. So, I put out a trap, and sure enough we caught one. But, unfortunately, the old school “snap trap” didn’t break it’s neck like normal. I had to put it out of it’s misery using a hammer. I couldn’t bring myself to actually swing the hammer to kill it, so I just dropped the hammer head on it.
