Sunday Night Football: Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
It has been almost 21 years since the Detroit Lions won a game in Lambeau Field. That is amazing, considering they play every year. That’s a college-like streak between a powerhouse school and a patsy. I mean, the NFL is supposed to be an “Any Given Sunday” league, but it hasn’t happened on any given Sunday since I was a senior in high school.
Last year, it was the crazy week 17 game where the Packers even rested Aaron Rodgers, but the Lions gave up 6 touchdown passes to Matt Flynn, making him a lot of money to be Seattle’s backup. Hey, at least Flynn got a good amount of action today!
With the Bears loss today, the Packers can get to within a win at Chicago next week of clinching the division, if they can extend that streak to 22 straight wins in Green Bay (one in the postseason).

Please don’t win Lions.
December 9th, 2012 at 8:29 PM
Should’ve known that with all that talk about Wendy’s earlier I’d end up saying fuck the ham sandwich and go to Wendy’s on my lunch break. Currently working on turning a “Dave’s Hot & Juicy” into a “Meth’s Hot & Steamy”.

i don’t know how people can function when it snows.
December 9th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
i don’t knowAmazing how peoplecan functionforget how to drive when it snows.December 9th, 2012 at 8:46 PM
Amazing how people forget how to drive when it snows.
Absolutely. Even worse is when people forget how to drive in the shit where it regularly snows every year. Driving up to Maine in the winter one time I bet I saw 20 cars in the trees and ditches on the side of the road.
December 9th, 2012 at 8:48 PM
No pre-game warmup GIFs?? For shame.
December 9th, 2012 at 8:53 PM
GIFs are most definitely here to stay. as has been mentioned many times … GIF or Telly are the way to go.
Lucky guys like Business Insider, Deadspin, Sportsgrid host their own videos. Been lobbying USA Today months to do the same.
December 9th, 2012 at 8:54 PM
Been lobbying USA Today months to do the same.
What do you mean host their own? Do you take yours from someone else?
/New to the GIF concept
December 9th, 2012 at 8:57 PM
Jason – serious questions (and maybe you’ve answered them),
1. do you see an increase in page traffic on the GIF posts (or direct clicks on them on the website)?
2. what legalities are in play when you make GIFs of TV broadcasts that have not had their logo cropped out?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:02 PM
The Big Legal
December 9th, 2012 at 9:02 PM
2. what legalities are in play when you make GIFs of TV broadcasts that have not had their logo cropped out?
I wondered about that, too. Because legally I don’t think you’re even supposed to tape a game for at home.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:05 PM
Good job good effort Arizona
December 9th, 2012 at 9:06 PM
FUCK YOU LIONS!
December 9th, 2012 at 9:06 PM
Meth, you can tape it if it is for your own use at home.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
Nothing was good about that effort.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
if you go to those 3 sites mentioned, you click on their videos and they have their own video player. so they rip videos from games and host them on their site. nobody can “embed” the videos they host (unless they make them embeddable).
for instance (making this up) … Business Insider is watching ESPN at 3 am and some anchor curses up a storm. NOBODY else in the world uploads to youtube. Business Insider pulls the video and hosts it. If nobody else puts it online, Business Insider has the only video of it.
we had a situation where most of the country didn’t get a Texas football game earlier this year (was on your computer, ESPN3). Mike had it on his TV …. pulled GIF, screen grab. Nobody else at all had it. 99 or 100% of people who wrote about in the days after all used his stuff. Most linked us; some cropped the “Big Lead Sports” but he put @CFBsection in a place that couldn’t be cropped and you can see that, i think, on all the Portman posts that happened in the days after.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
I mean aren’t they still recording from TV and adding the bigleadsports logo to it? Seems worse than giffing.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:08 PM
Cross posting this here from another post as the subject is germane.
FYI, I surf the site largely on my iPad, and the ads will pop up on every screen- the same as my iPhone. The animated gifs really do SLOOOOOW down post loading when I am on a fast wifi connection (and not 3G, 4G cellular). I have tried to reduce the ads through the settings on my devices but it doesn’t appear to help. No video autoplay issues for me on the iOs system.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:08 PM
This is just about the time the Lions mess up their draft pick for the following year.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:09 PM
Smallie, that reference is from the nba playoffs last season when miami lost big at home. They were exiting the court and the tv cameras picked up this young kid yelling “good job, good effort” while clapping in support of the Heat. We now use it for teams that gag
December 9th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
As long as we are Q and A-ing… do you control the ads on the site? For instance, if we complain about pop-up ads and you suggest using a blocker, that is sort of defeating the purpose of having ads and goes against your relationship with the people who provide a revenue source. Can you say “we want unobtrusive ads with no pop-ups” or is it much simpler, like a 3rd party puts the ads on and gives you a chunk of change, without any BLS control over it?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:11 PM
Could you phrase this in the term of a 40mb/s connection?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:12 PM
I’m aware AP. Still wasn’t worthy of a good anything.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Mole, I’m slower than that but I’m not on dial-up.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
1) Yes. People initially (sept/oct) would rip the videos mike put on youtube and not credit us. Mike had one where a video had 750 views on youtube. like 500k of them were Yahoo (who didn’t credit us), and 100k were Huff Post (no credit). Reason they had more clicks than us? SEO/yahoo firehouse. I called Yahoo on it (video was unlisted, so you couldn’t search for it) and they admitted the “mistake.” We quit using Youtube (mostly). Let those guys upload their own videos and do the work.
2) No idea. Has SB Nation or anyone else that does GIFs been sued?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:15 PM
if we complain about pop-up ads
I’m currently getting an ad at the bottom calling attention to a new driving rule in Missouri. I have never been to Missouri. Until just now, I don’t know that I’ve ever even typed Missouri.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:15 PM
Great… looks like I need the Pats to win tomorrow to avoid a second losing week in Pick’em this year.
/fucking NFC
December 9th, 2012 at 9:16 PM
Approx. 10 MB/s.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:18 PM
Email complaints about ADs are the best. That way, I can forward them to the ad powers that be.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Another question I have wondered: how many unique commenters comment in a certain week/month/year whatever? What percent of readers have a commenting account, do you have a way to track that?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:20 PM
Looks like the kids will get a lexus 7 tablet from Santa grandma. Should be plenty of educational/creative apps for the early elementary school set huh?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:21 PM
FYI – I don’t get pop-ups with Chrome, only the annoying auto-play ads. I get pop-ups at home if I use IE, but I am very very rarely on here from home computer. I assume that web browser choice/addons are the best way to go for ad control.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
If you mean nexus 7, I’m considering getting a tablet for my wife for xmas. Trying to decide b/w iPad (maybe not versatile enough), an Android tablet, or a Windows one.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
Thanks for the answers. I will counter that my gut answer to my own question #2 is that yes, someone at some point has been sued for usage of video content for profit from another source. Probably not something you would have to worry about until some cease and desist letters show up.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
don’t know. over 19,000 unique people have created commenting accounts. I don’t know what the breakdown is further than that. it’s been almost 7 years, and you guys are pretty much aware of the core 100 people or so that comment on any given week.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:24 PM
it’s America, heel yeah – people will sue over anything.
Buzzfeed is high profile, gets written about tons, rips videos and GIFS probably 20x as often as any sports site does.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:26 PM
lol hillbilly
December 9th, 2012 at 9:26 PM
Oh a FG, that will help cover a TD spread.

December 9th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Luckily for you, apparently not labor violations.
Anyone who is getting ads on a non mobile site: that shit’s on you. Grow up and use adblock and flashblock.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
Yet another week I spend an hour mad I’m at work and can’t watch, before I remember NBC does have coverage online.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:29 PM
No i mean the kids will share a Lexus. Big red bow and all
December 9th, 2012 at 9:30 PM
My father-in-law is at this game. I’m pretty sure he’s keeping warm with large amounts of Jack.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:32 PM
If he’s a pack fan you must mean Pepper Jack
December 9th, 2012 at 9:32 PM
So… Next week, take the seahawks over the bills in toronto, even if buffalo is favored.

December 9th, 2012 at 9:33 PM
I’m sorry, we were looking for Colby Jack. Colby Jack.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
Monterey jack, por favor
December 9th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
Right before that snap, I said Stafford is playing pretty damn well.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:35 PM
Yet another week I spend an hour mad I’m at work and can’t watch, before I remember NBC does have coverage online.
How do you think I feel? I can probably count on 2 hands the number of sites my work computer doesn’t block. The only moving pictures these eyes sees are the GIF’s on this site and ESPN’s basketball game tracker. It shows me the ball going from where it’s shot and it ends up at the hoop. It’s slow here. You settle for what you get. Don’t judge me.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
The NBC coverage has changed at times, with the quality and what they offer, but it is awesome tonight. Great HD coverage, main feed.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:37 PM
Waaaaay too late for that meth
December 9th, 2012 at 9:39 PM
I’ve tried a couple stream sites people tried linking me to. One site wasn’t blocked and I thought it was going to work. But I had to download something and I’m not doing that on here. So I said fuck it. It’s not the end of the world.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:40 PM
NBC.com is blocked, meth? that’s shitty.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:41 PM
So what you’re saying is we are the 1%?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:46 PM
Wonder if they run here, a lot can go wrong on a pass in the snow…
Unless you’re Tom Brady
December 9th, 2012 at 9:55 PM
Costas ready to re-instate prohibition?
December 9th, 2012 at 9:57 PM
Why didn’t Costas just go Jihad on that damned car!? If there was no car. Jerry Brown would still be alive.
December 9th, 2012 at 9:59 PM
Meth, ever tried using a proxy at work like hidemyass?
December 9th, 2012 at 10:05 PM
NBC.com wouldn’t be blocked, but I can say with confidence I wouldn’t be watching games. I can’t even go to the main page of Youtube. You’d think they’d at least let you go there and search for something to get your hopes up, and then when you go to click on the video they just crush your dreams.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:06 PM

McIntyre – Thanks for answering the previous questions. I wondered about that stuff as well. I didn’t know enough about videos and gifs and whatnot. Interesting.
Now can you get CRM to quit posting gangnam videos?
/realizes those must get tons of page views.
//weeps for humanity.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
BS call on GB. Horrible throw on 3rd by Stafford. Why not chuck it deep to Calvin more? The couple deep throws to him earlier have all been under thrown.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
gangnam videos
while i’ve yet to see one of these, including the original (hi-five chief), it has finally creeped into my house. the kids love messing with the jibjab site and apparently gangham style is one choice for hilarity. i heard one of them singing it
he’ll be looking for a different job tomorrow

I am proud to say I was anti-Psy before I found out he wanted American soldiers dead. Ahead of the curve, was I.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:38 PM

December 9th, 2012 at 10:50 PM

I had never heard of Gangnam Style till I came here. Since work blocks the videos I’m proud to say I never saw it till whatever day it was they came out with the fact that his real name is Abdullah Abdullah, and that his favorite food is green eggs and jihad.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
till whatever day it was
You see what this job does to me, Vez? All the days just meld together. If it wasn’t for hunting season, I probably wouldn’t know what month it is.
December 9th, 2012 at 10:59 PM
meth you got a plan to get out? you said you don’t have a degree, not that they are the be all and end all. how bout state wildlife police/ranger?
December 9th, 2012 at 11:01 PM
He’s Korean. So I was anti-PSY as well. But it was a catchy tune driven into the ground.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
Just 12 starting QBs for the Lions since Favre’s first start? Hmmm…
Peete, Kramer, Mitchell, Batch, Harrington, McMahon, Kitna, Orlovsky, Culpepper, Stanton, Hill, Stafford. There can’t be just 12 though, who’s missing?
December 9th, 2012 at 11:03 PM
My Dad’s gf can get me a job down in SC at a power plant, not sure what it’d be doing but definitely starting out bottom of the barrel. But he’s getting restationed in January, so I’d have to live with her while I saved up to get my own place. I’ve met her for all of 15 minutes and never met her 14 year old son, so I don’t know. Shit would be kinda weird to just up and move in. What if he finds a new girlfriend while he’s away (it happens)? I’ll wake up to find she went Lorainna Bobbit on my Dad, vicariously through me.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
At first I thought the story started with “My gf’s Dad…” so the part in bold confused the hell out of me.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:16 PM

Got a bobbit joke ill tell when I’m done walking the dawg
December 9th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
No dream or goal tho meth careerwise?
December 9th, 2012 at 11:22 PM
Stafford is a chucker. Lots of stats, lots of turnovers, lots of losses.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
No dream or goal tho meth careerwise?
Think that’s my problem. 24 years old and don’t know what I want to do. It’s time to start figuring it the fuck out. This job isn’t cutting it.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:25 PM
Lions need a lot more offensive balance
December 9th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Slags.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
What you talking about? I’ve been told on a Lions board that I’m a hater and that injuries are the issue. Not the under/over throws or the lack of targeting the best WR in the game.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Don’t sweat it meth…chances are you change careers a few times anyway. How bout save some money go travel someplace cool then settle in
December 9th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Fire Schwartz. Go hard after Saban, then settle for someone else, but definitely go hard after Norv to coordinate the offense
December 9th, 2012 at 11:33 PM
pretty sure the lions will fixate on the td and not the fg, and eliminate any small chance they had of winning. in this situation, you have to get to the onside kick/one possession game, and not waste time looking for the end zone. the titans with jeff fisher always did it, and it drove me crazy. i assume schwarz is the same way… a born loser.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
Stafford has zero timing with his receivers because his footwork and throwing motion are completely different play to play. He’s a useless cunt.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
anything but a quick out here is a loser move. and even now its really too late.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:37 PM
i actually like that call. had a chance to get that back, and no packer had a clean look or shot to cover it. just had some bad spin.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:39 PM
Jerkass move kicking that fg. Gb m7
December 9th, 2012 at 11:43 PM
Hillbilly cunt. Remember when everyone called me a hater? I do. He’s got the talent but he’s a loser. Lets keep throwing to the white guys. Ignore the best non QB in the game. Winning strategy.
December 9th, 2012 at 11:45 PM
Ignore the best non QB in the game. Winning strategy.
all day is a QB?
