Royals got rid of two prospects that COULD have gotten them more in return had they left them to “mature”. We all know they wouldn’t be able to keep them later on, but damn these were good players. For what? 2 good pitchers that will help them NOW. NOW isn’t enough though. They need more to be a legit contender and neither Shields or Wade will get them there.

Given team needs and his salary as time goes on, that would make sense. I’ve given up on trying to make sense of the Royals. I’m sure they think they just got their 7th inning guy and are ecstatic enough to give up multiple prospects.

Dayton Moore has done decently at the scouting thing at the high school level. He has zero concept of value and constructing a major league roster. I mean, he could have not traded for Santana and not tendered Hochevar and been in the market for any pitcher non-Greinke division. We could go back over the years and if we eliminate all the dumb moves, the Royals could have been in the running for some really good players. Death by a thousand knives here.

Leonard i’ve never heard of, but is a year behind his draft class and was a power bat in rookie ball. he’s gonna be r5d-eligible long before he’s major league ready though, so he’s a long way away… Leonard and montgomery are question marks, but i’m not huge on shields the way some are, and i don’t really like Davis at all as a starter (which i assume he will be in KC) so it seems like a tough price to pay for two years of Shields and a 6th SP.

I’m not sure why the Royals felt they were in “win now” mode, except that maybe they are in “well we can’t suck forever” mode.

tbr on the other hand now has a starter in his first option year, to hang onto till they feel like promoting him.
