Johnny Football is Now Johnny Heisman: Johnny Manziel Becomes First Freshman to Win Award
Johnny Manziel took college football by storm this year as a redshirt freshman, flourishing in Kevin Sumlin’s offense in Texas A&M’s first season in the SEC. It culminated tonight in being named the Heisman Trophy winner.
No freshman had ever won the Heisman Trophy before, and it took until five years ago that a sophomore won it (Tim Tebow). Of course, Manziel also put up a combination of passing and rushing that we have rarely seen, rushing for over 1,000 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns on the ground, while also averaging 8.5 yards per pass, completing 68% of his passes, and throwing for over 3,400 yards with 24 touchdown passes.
From Johnny Manziel to Johnny Football, and now, Johnny Heisman.
The final voting: Manziel with 474 first place votes and 2,029 total points, Manti Te’o was second with 321 first place votes and 1,706 points (the second highest ever for a second place finisher, and most for a pure defensive player), and Collin Klein 60 first place votes and 894 points. Marqise Lee finished 4th and Braxton Miller finished 5th in the Heisman voting.

That’s O.K., he’ll have a hot steamy bowl of chili waiting for him as a consolation prize. The cornbread, however, will mysteriously have vanished on the way to the table…

I’d srill take braxton, both as a college coach and NFL GM

Without a doubt the worst heisman filed I have ever seen. But he has it.

I disagree with this. I’ve seen it from quite a few people. I don’t think the field is anywhere near as bad as when Mark Ingram won the Heisman. Or Eric Crouch. I don’t care what any Midwesterners will say, Eric Crouch was shitty and had no business winning that or even being considered for it. The first half of that national title game was a glory to behold.

Braxton will be a favorite next year along with Johnny Football and DeAnthony Thomas.
Oh and that Bo Jackson 30 for 30 was horribly executed. Very disappointed.

time really does fly, the 30 for 30 3 years ago was the one on The U.
December 8th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
Yup. I wouldn’t even have this in the top 5 of worst heisman classes. Crouch and Ingram have already been mentioned. 1998 was really bad after Ricky Williams, 2006 was iffy, 86 wasn’t much better. I actually think this year’s nominees are closer to what you get in most years.

The 30 for 30 two years ago was Pony Excess….definitely one of the better ones that have been made along with The U and the one about the USFL.
December 8th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
Sorry, this is way worse than crouch or ingrams year, and I don’t think it’s close.

Man…the hawks thumped memphis tonight….on the road playing second time in as many nights. Srod, what up?
December 8th, 2012 at 11:42 PM
The stats those two qbs put up, one of them in a man’s conference….there have been lots worse fields

Love me some Braxton. But, he was not the Heisman winner. In fact, I can’t imagine anyone voting him first.
He will absolutely be a favorite next year. His throwing was immensely better this year. Another off season with a real QB coach and in that offense, he and that entire offense will be ridiculous.

Still wild to me that no ducks made the trip at least. I suppose they water down each other

The fuck? Is that Mitt Romney in the front row of the MGM Grand for the Pacquiao fight?
December 9th, 2012 at 12:02 AM
Yep. Made the rounds that he met 50 Cent earlier in the night. Jim Lampley was talking about it… Even saw a Tweet pic from someone that was there.

Well, props to him I guess. May as well enjoy life and spend those untold millions.
December 9th, 2012 at 12:14 AM
Certainly deserved it. Knew he was a good player but hadn’t seen him this year until the Michigan game. He got absoultely crushed a couple time in it and bounced back like nothing happened. Can’t wait until those undefeated rednecks come to A2 next November.

Vez, I was on NyQuil last night (cold symptoms – no, really). Saw highlights this morning.
Let’s blame Conley (6 TO) and Rudy (7-for-freakin’-25). There’s my narrative. Dang it.

So srod would that mean at least after that performance that you’re not a big Gay guy?

December 9th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Vez! “You are correct, sir”.
Gay took twice as many shots as anybody else on the roster last night, and he wasn’t hittin’. We all know if it ain’t your night, pass the ball. It ain’t that hard.

Braxton Miller got three first place votes.
Vlad, spence, and…Archie Griffin (twice) and that undeserving short little QB that got it in mid-2000′s (too lazy to google it)

Manziel is a sophomore.
I’m pegging Golson for Heisman next year… However, ESPN will most assuredly Troy-Smith Golson they way they did Brady Quinn.
As long as we take the ‘Natty’… I really don’t give too much of a shit.
