Norv Turner and A.J. Smith Will Be Out In San Diego Once Season Ends
Dean Spanos will fire Norv Turner and General Manager A.J. Smith at season’s end, according to Kevin Acee. No, seriously, guys, this is really happening this time. Not like last year, when Dean Spanos was going to fire Norv Turner and maybe A.J. Smith at the end of the year.
The Christmas season has officially begun, because now the Norv Turner will be fired post has been written. It is a holiday tradition. I’ve seen this too many times to kill off Norval before he is done.
According to Acee’s report, Spanos is resigned to the idea that he cannot retain A.J. Smith in the current climate and based on the direction the team is heading. Current Director of Player Personnel Jimmy Raye is identified as the apparent replacement for Smith.

In a situation like San Diego’s, it makes perfect sense to promote from within.
I hope Dallas hires Norv to call plays/QB coach if nobody else wants him as an OC

What is the point of keeping them around to the end of the year? Just make a clean cut.
December 6th, 2012 at 6:40 PM
What happened to giving a guy a chance?!?!
December 6th, 2012 at 6:41 PM
Lisk, have any leading candidates for AJ Smith’s services?
December 6th, 2012 at 6:42 PM
I say the same thing about USC.

Why do the ugly ones always get hurt?
December 6th, 2012 at 6:43 PM
So Schiano wants, instead of kickoffs, you get the ball on your own 30, facing 4th and 15.

Slippery slope of safety shenanigans
December 6th, 2012 at 6:44 PM
Anyone else think it’s weird that Norv has never coached/coordinated for the Jets. It seems like this should happen.

Happy Holidays!

I may have said this before, so sorry. But every once in awhile I like to ignore the snark and actually think about how fucking bizarre it is that Norv Turner is, at least as of now, still an NFL head coach. It is so strange.

Yep, and Goodell talked about eliminating kickoffs and you would be able to punt from your own 30 after a score, or get one play to gain 15 yards to keep the ball, the new onside kick.

Also, this is about 4 years too late.
Sad to think the Chargers prime years with Tomlinson, Rivers, Gates were all wasted on this chump.
December 6th, 2012 at 6:52 PM
They should get a GM to gut the roster and rebuild, all in time to start in L.A. with a good core.
December 6th, 2012 at 6:55 PM
I understand advocating for player safety, but at what point is it not even football anymore?
Guys are gonna get hurt, consussions are going to happen. It’s the logistics of the game. I think some of the steps taken are ok. Guys not being able to return until cleared is ok with me.
I just dont get the fact that they are now trying to eliminate parts of the actual game of football. They’ve already gone crazy on the defenseless hits shit, now they want to get rid of kickoffs, then whats next?
December 6th, 2012 at 6:56 PM
I wouldnt mind Turner as OC in Cleveland but I doubt that is happening. Lombardi is going with an old crony, all old Belicheck guys.
December 6th, 2012 at 6:57 PM
What I dont understand is why the NFL doesnt find the best/safest helmet and make all the guys wear that helmet. If safety is such a big deal and all…

Bring back Marty.
December 6th, 2012 at 7:01 PM
It’s a shame Marty isn’t doing TV or anything. He’s kind of morphed into a caricature of himself/NFL coach since being fired. love to hear some Martyisms during a telecast.

Your move William Clay Ford.

I went to my first AHL game on Friday and it was a great time I must say.

More specifically, the union received word via voice mail — that’s right, VOICE MAIL — that the offer was “unacceptable.”
Better than text message at least.

My brother went to a semi-pro game in Russia. Can’t remember the exact amount but he said for a only few dollars he got a ticket, ate, and got shit faced. Gotta love that exchange rate.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:25 PM
Nice. I got center ice tickets 10 rows up for $23. Was a great game too and definitely will go to another game. Live hockey is awesome.

Bettman just owned Fehr. What an amazing press conference. New found respect for Bettman.

It’s just a pissing contest at this point.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:33 PM
Ok looks like JMac may be right about the Mavs not making the playoffs now.
Dirk out until 2013 with no timetable to return any time soon. Damn.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:35 PM
Vlad are you a huge Red Wings fan?
December 6th, 2012 at 8:39 PM
I’d like Norv as OC in AZ when they fie Whisenhunt and promote Ray Horton to HC.
December 6th, 2012 at 8:41 PM
Yeah, why?

Because if it is, it probably runs like you – very homosexually.

Helmets dont matter. .brain is still being bounced off the inside of the skull
December 6th, 2012 at 9:03 PM
Just curious.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:05 PM
rondo what ahl venue?
December 6th, 2012 at 9:07 PM
Sweet, blessed relief. Sure, the team is gonna suck bad for a while, but a couple of productive drafts and the new era can start afresh.
I don’t enjoy anyone losing a job, but this just wasn’t working.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:08 PM
Helmets dont matter. .brain is still being bounced off the inside of the skull
well in this case, you’re refuting that some helmets are better than others, which isnt the case. dont some reduce the effects or liklihood? If so, shouldnt they be mandated?
December 6th, 2012 at 9:10 PM
step one srod, put rivers on market.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
What could they get? Who would take him?
December 6th, 2012 at 9:15 PM
scripty, I agree but…where’s a competent replacement? Don’t know if there is one in the draft where SD might pick, and John Hadl ain’t walking thru that door.
I’d settle for Stan Humphries at this point.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:22 PM
What could they get? Who would take him?
Would you take 2 second rounders or a high first/or/low 2nd and an escalator on playoffs/pro bowls? I bet they could get that? Maybe BUF, Jets, Arizona. I realize its easy for me to advocate re-hauling the team but if you getting a new GM isnt that most likely anyways.
December 6th, 2012 at 9:30 PM
Those would be fair offers. A lot depends on the regime change, but I could see Barkley to SD, if only because the fit is so natural. Rivers arm has been so bad lately, I wonder if he is hurt or if his arm strength naturally deteriorated this rapidly? Maybe the quick decline is attributable to the shotput mechanics

Bradley Center in Milwaukee. It was the Admirals and the Chicago Wolves.
