Non-SEC Coaching Hires: Darrell Hazell to Purdue, Steve Addazio to Boston College
Darrell Hazell to Purdue: Hazell won 11 games in a season at Kent State. Playing that down is impossible. He also knows the conference landscape, having spent seven years as an Ohio State assistant under Tressel. Some questions remain. Is Hazell a big enough draw to bring back the fans? Catastrophic attendance declines did in Danny Hope. Will he bring the exciting offense Purdue believes it has a reputation for? Hazell’s 2010 team ranked dead last in yards per play offense. This year’s team ranked 75th in total yards and 57th in yards per play. Most of that was giving it to Dri Archer in space. Perhaps most importantly will Purdue’s expanded budget extend to competitive assistant coach contracts? Also please, someone, teach him how to properly curve the bill of his hat.
Steve Addazio to Boston College: Boston College hired another middle-aged Italian guy with a mustache. This is not a sexy hire, but BC is not a sexy program. Addazio is known for having an infectious personality and recruiting what talent does come from the Northeast (landed Freeney at Cuse and Aaron Hernandez at Florida). He had a great first season at Temple, going 8-4 and winning a bowl game. He kept the wheels on during their Big East transition year. It won’t rouse the fan base in the short term but it should work out.

Too funny – Denver Post reports Butch Jones to Colorado.
Pete Thamel – Butch Jones just told me he didn’t take the job.
Posturing? Did he not tell his team yet?

Wouldn’t have minded Addazio to Uconn last yr. Wanted Mangini, but that was a pipe dream. I think Addazio landed Reed, Floyd, and Easley too. Butch Jones is a crazy person if he takes the Colorado job
