NFL to Provide Benefits to Jovan Belcher’s Daughter Through College
Zoey, the three-month old daughter of Jovan Belcher and Kasandra Perkins will be taken care of financially by the NFL. From KCTV5:
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, as part of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, Zoey’s guardian or her estate will receive $9,000 per month over the next four years, which amounts to $109,000 per year. In the fifth year, she’ll receive $48,000. From then on, she’ll be given $52,000 per year each year until she turns 18 or 23, depending on whether she goes to college.
The kid lost her mom and dad, but she is going to have a serious chance. It should go without saying, but hopefully the money is put to good use.

So I guess her mother’s mother is her new guardian?

Wow. The NFL is trying to get way ahead of the inevitable lawsuit.

Well aren’t we Mr. The Glass is Half Empty.

Wait. Do they do this for all dead NFL players’ kids?

Might not be the right time but here’s an eagle throwing a goat off a cliff for the purpose of eating it.

Piss off, MS. I sentence you to this. Again.

Has there ever been a mother/father same day death before?

Well, I hope he wasn’t just doing it for fun. That’d be cruel.

I don’t know. Just thought it was odd this was in the collective bargaining agreement. I wonder what other “worse case scenarios” they are prepared for.

Maybe it was someone else earlier in the NOT A DUNK video with the gif.

Belcher’s contract for 2012 was $1.9 million and she stands to receive somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 million over the life of these benefits. Not bad considering they’ll be dispersed in a much more financially sustainable manner, depending on who the guardian ends up being and how responsible they are.

Oakland. Gruden. I’m not sure if this falls under truth or rumor.

I hope a corporate fiduciary is appointed as guardian of this kid’s estate and/or trustee, as the case may be. Otherwise, I wonder how that money will be used by Uncle Ray Ray.
December 5th, 2012 at 4:29 PM
Yes, please.
December 5th, 2012 at 4:34 PM
What the NFL should do is make all the payments out to Zoey directly, so they can only be deposited into accounts in her name. Her fiduciary could still take out the money from there, but in that case, she would be under a legal obligation to use the money in Zoey’s best interest.

I’m no lawyer (hold your applause), but what would the plaintiff’s case be? I see hitching onto the class action suits as a no-brainer, but nothing specific to Belcher

Pete Townshend’s Empty Glass is an excellent album.
December 5th, 2012 at 4:42 PM
I’ll allow it.
/probably not true though…especially with 4 games to go. Why would this come out now?

Now you’ve ruined Monk’s plans to post that video in the Friday Roundup.

Plantiff would be the the family of the daughter. Not Belcher.
I got my degree from Hollywood Upstairs Law College.

Detroit seems tailor made for Gruden. A qb with ability and the cupboard isn’t bare

It is the internet. Just Pageviews, Baby.
December 5th, 2012 at 4:46 PM
Ya, but the suit would have to relate to the link between NFL and why Belcher did it, no?
December 5th, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Chuck back to Oakland would be fantastic, but it has no chance in hell of happening.

Took my kid fishing in Eldred NY and saw my first eagle. Two years ago. Totally awesome.

I would love to see Rob Ryan return to Oakland as head coach.

Concussions? The fact the Chiefs knew he was unstable? I’m just throwing stuff out.
