LSU without their starting QB and RB came back to upset Tennessee and win their first SEC championship game. Since that season Tennessee has gone 80-59 and hasnt been to a single BCS bowl, while LSU’s gone 115-26 with 3 trips to the BCS title game. Before that, Tennessee had gone 120-29-2 from ’89-’01 while LSU went 76-72-1. Mojo stolen.

Remember when that one UT fan (Sean Jean I think) was like, “wtf lol, no way, Tennessee is the best job in the SEC?*”

I most definitely didn’t say that, but I did say we aren’t the 8th best job in the SEC. I know things look really bad now, but just hang tight.

Tennessee has history, but Bob Neyland’s been dead 50 yrs. This is the Notre Dame defense. Last two coaches have been Kiffin and Dooley, so they don’t exactly get their pick of the litter these days

Neyland? Tennessee was the winningest team of the 90s and that continued into the 00s under Fulmer. You don’t have to go back to The General to find legendary Tennessee teams and Tennessee success. Michigan, Alabama, Texas, Florida under Zook, Fsu at the end of Bowden’s era, Penn State, Notre dame, USC, etc have all had somewhat recent / very recent periods of mediocrity and sometimes they’ve had seasons that were absolutely terrible. Alabama lost to Louisiana-Monroe at home in Saban’s first season there. All it takes is one hire and some wins and you’re right back on top.

You’re kind. Memphis hoops this year stinks. There is already talk at home about whether Pastner is the right guy to lead the team into the Big East.

Memphis football fell off a cliff when the previous AD ceded nearly all power to Calipari. When Calipari snuck off, the AD was left with a football program damaged by neglect.

Now, they have an up-and-coming coach (Justin Fuente, former OC at TCU) and a new AD who played CFB. I think, think, they are finally gonna pony up the resources to be at least competitive in football. I sure hope so.

If Memphis ends up a Big 12 target in 5 years or so, it could be good for hoops, but they’re gonna get their asses shot off in football.

I should edit. Comparative as to what Memphis could expect not being in a BCS hoops conference vs being in one.

See, this is what Louisville did right and perhaps Memphis did wrong. Things are going to the surface so fast and Memphis seems to be to far down under. On the upside for Memphis, if they commit to football soon, basketball may keep them afloat for a Big 12 bid. I still am confused why the Big 12 let Louisville go to the ACC. There isn’t much left so the Big 12 might as well start angling for the comparative Big 12 hoops money. Memphis could be big on that end. But they need to put money into football.

When they get a legit coach who can recruit, lead, and do X-and-O, they will be a load in a hurry. They have enough resources to be a 10-win team every year once things get straightened out.
