Jim Harbaugh Once Played Screech’s Cousin on Saved By The Bell
Before we had the handshake episode with Jim Schwartz, we had Jim Harbaugh delivering a handshake to Zack Morris in an episode of Saved By the Bell: The New Class. [resident Saved By the Bell expert "Cleet" confirms that is not Zack, but a different actor, shaking hands in the background.] Here was the former Indianapolis quarterback making an appearance as Screech’s cousin (of course). This means that Jim Harbaugh is related to Neil Diamond, right?
I attribute not knowing about this because it came, not in the best after school show ever during my teen years, Saved By The Bell, but a spinoff when I was already away in college. Frankly, though, I’m disappointed in some of you that this is just now coming back to light.

Did Cleet willingly withhold this information from us?

Wait there was another iteration of SBTB other than the original and the College Years? Either way, what a shitty show (including the original).

Wow, how does this not get talked about here prior to today?

There are definitely some hard questions that need to be asked.

The New Class is an abomination of the SBTB brand, even more so than The College years. Harbaugh is not shaking Zack’s hand there, Lisk. Morris only made one appearance on The New Class, and it was the episode when they were threatening to tear down Bayside.

But still, this is an awesome find.

A salary/compensation question for you fine folks. If your company does not off 401k matching or a pension, how do compensate for this? Do you ask for more salary to cover the difference?
December 4th, 2012 at 3:07 PM
The “freeze into the credits” laugh by Harbaugh is classic as well.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:07 PM
Jim was the best actor on that show (after Belding, who has always had chops).

That looked like him off in the background, and why would Jim Harbaugh shake some random person’s hand upon entering the establishment?

Not exactly enhancing your resume Sarah Lancaster.
/still supremely underrated
December 4th, 2012 at 3:09 PM
I can’t believe they had 7 seasons of the New Class. Also this tidbit:
December 4th, 2012 at 3:12 PM
Absolutely. The average 401k matching contribution is around 4% from the employer so I would counter with 5-7% in addition to the salary offered.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:13 PM
Probably to show how he is a good guy, man of the people. It was most likely put in as the extra was supposed to be like “holy shit it’s that QB that almost led that shitty Colts team to the SB then went on to suck with the Bears for a few seasons!” and Jim is like “hey kid, thanks for noticing, believe in your dreams.”
December 4th, 2012 at 3:15 PM
So the kid could ask Screech why he was there…and Screech could respond…otherwise that would have been a awkward pause at the top of the steps for Harbaugh during said exchange. It’s what is referred to in soccer as television stage production.

That’s the one thing TNC had going for it, some nice looking talent. Lancaster, Bianca Lawson, short-haired cheerleader girl in episode above. Natalia Cigliuti in the first season was nice too, but she was supposed to be the next KK and let’s face it, no one can fill that role. Natalia ended up in that show Raising the Bar starring opposite…that’s right….Zack Morris.

Fun fact I learned yesterday: Dustin Diamond has a rider in his appearance contracts* that forbids anybody from calling him Screech, and the venue is “fined” $100 each time someone does so.
*I’m as confused as you are
December 4th, 2012 at 3:18 PM
I’m kind of surprised we haven’t seen a SBTB reboot yet.

That sounds like an urban legend. How do you enforce that? I would have a plant in the crowd calling me Screech all the time.
Also, if the fine is $100, exactly how much is Dustin Diamond commanding in an appearance fee for being anything other than Screech?
December 4th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
This killed me. Gives off a dead serious, “step off, bro.”
December 4th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
I went from a company that matched up to 6% and had a $3.74 per hour pension. I’m thinking I won’t see that again.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Like many others have said, SBTB The New Class was an embarrassment, even worse than the college years.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:21 PM
Hey, I only spread rumors. I don’t corroborate them.

If you take this job, just remember to contribute to an IRA and claim the tax deduction.

I thought jimmy was a bear first then a colt
December 4th, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Damn.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:26 PM
It appears he also affected the football career of Jonathon Moxon with just one handshake.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Even on Saved By The Bell, Jimmy was all about the team.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:27 PM
All iterations of this show sucked thorny devilcock.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:28 PM
Just trying to be accurate Hernia.
/you even lift bro?
December 4th, 2012 at 3:39 PM
Proof SBTB-TNC sucked:
The best they could do for a football celebrity was Jim Harbaugh, Indy Colts edition.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:42 PM
The absolute worst thing about TNC is they tried to create carbon copies of the original characters. And they were porn-level actors. Agreed the ladies were fap-worthy though.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
And he was still patting people on the back too hard. (see the end of the episode)
December 4th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
Yeah, but I would have had to work midnight shift for the next twelve years to get it though. I only had 25 days off in total last year! I don’t think I had more than one weekend off.

It was just a nod to where the school originated from.
/Totally making that up, but I’d like to think someone thought of it when looking for a football star.
