Heisman Finalists: Manti Te’o and Johnny Manziel Are the Favorites
All, College Football December 3rd. 2012, 6:30pm

Manti Te’o could be the first defensive player to win the Heisman since Charles Woodson in 1997. Johnny Manziel will try to become the first freshman ever to win it. Collin Klein will try to become the first arm punter/quarterback rushing machine since Tim Tebow to win.
Manziel is the favorite in Vegas, while Te’o will be in the National Championship game and have the Notre Dame brand.

So when are votes actually sent in?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:33 PM
11th rounder, tops.

So when are votes actually sent in?
I believe yesterday was the first day they were to be mailed in. Or should be mailed in. I dunno. Something about Monday.

And how many years until an investigation of Cam Newton’s transfer to Auburn leads to him returning his Heisman?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:39 PM
Gotta give Marqise Lee an acknowledgement invite. Best player in the country by far
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:41 PM
I’m so far past the point of caring about anything NCAA investigation/apr related. They are pseudo-pro sports and I encourage rampant “cheating”

So…4 years?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:44 PM
Depends. Does the NCAA want to rape and pillage in nonsensical fashion, a la SC football and Uconn bball? Or do they want to pretend nothing happened, a la anything at UNC ever?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:47 PM
So there are only three finalists?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:48 PM
Myles Brand was more of the “look the other way” type of guy. Mark Emmert seems to be more like the 5 year old who just got his hands on an AK-47.
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:49 PM
The votes were due in today, the finalists are based on an initial ballot count, I believe. It’s all on heismanpundit.com
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:50 PM
Manziel will win in a landslide. Weakest Heisman field since 2009, when they gave it to Alabama’s second-best running back.

Salty ND fans are fun.
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:52 PM
All of this. Ingram was the 2nd best RB and about the 10th best player. That was a weak year.
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:56 PM
Doesn’t Josh Heupel have a Heisman?
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:57 PM
I wish the Heisman was a legit award, rather than “the skill player, hopefully qb, on a highly ranked team, with the best stats, unless there is nobody, in which case we may give a token invite to a defensive player”. Finalists would be Lee, Teo, Clowney if it really had anything to do with it’s alleged criteria.
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:58 PM
“Doesn’t Josh Heupel have a Heisman?”
No, you’re thinking of another vastly overrated OU QB – Jason White.
December 3rd, 2012 at 6:59 PM
Heupel was a runner-up.

Ah yes. I get them confused all the time.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:00 PM
I really thought Gerhart should have won in 2009. This year isn’t as weak as it gets credit for but the hype machine is too deeply ingrained for any real darkhorse candidates right now. Marqise Lee would be a fine winner but USC sucked so bad in the end that it killed him. Clowney would be an awesome candidate but no national sports writers really trumpeted him. Same thing with Jarvis Jones. There are too many stupid little boxes that need to get checked off for somebody to be cleared as a Heisman candidate

I’m the last person on earth that wants to see an Aggie do good, but I think it’s pretty hard to argue that Johnny Fucking Football doesn’t deserve to be among the finalists. Setting an all time record for total yards against an SEC schedule, beating no. 1 Bama on the road, etc. He has the resume.

Heupel and White are a testament to how badly Landry Jones fucked up his life this past year.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:15 PM
3 finalists. Weak, weak, weak.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:16 PM
That ’97 Heisman voting is pretty ridiculous to look back on. Peyton (36 TD, 11 INT, 3800 yds, 60%) at #2, Leaf (34 TD, 11 INT, 3900 yds) at #3, Moss (1600 yards, 25 TD) at #4…1800 yards/25 TD’s of Ricky Williams almost an afterthought at #5…Tim Dwight…and Woodson won that running away, 150 more first place votes then Peyton.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:21 PM
I’d go Lee, Manziel, Klein, Miller.
In reality, the Manti Teo Sports Media Narrative will win, followed by Johnny Football.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:23 PM
holy shit, charles woodson didn’t deserve that award.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:23 PM
Also, lulz at the ’01 Heisman voting: Crouch, Grossman, Ken Dorsey, Joey Harrington, David Carr. Whole lot of NFL QB fail going on there.

Ouch. Who had the best pro career out of that? Carr maybe followed by Harrington? Woof.
December 3rd, 2012 at 7:35 PM
i think rex grossman might be the right answer there. even if he’s not, he’s close enough to be in the discussion which makes it even sadder.
/fuck it im going deep

Jesus, Westbrook was in the 2002 draft? I would have guessed he was 40 by now.

I’m blaming Mole and the placement of J-Mac’s head in the link
December 3rd, 2012 at 8:06 PM
mole is a real bloodthirsty guttertripe, no doubt.
December 3rd, 2012 at 8:06 PM
That’s fair. I was just going with this year’s three finalist model. I love Manziel, but the tempo, the incredible % of snaps resulting in a pass or run by him, and the consistent production of Sumlin’s offense devalue his stats IMO. That said, I’d make him the fourth candidate as a show of respect. Just tried to pick the three BEST players
December 3rd, 2012 at 8:08 PM
Guttertripe means whore, Churchill used “guttersnipe” which is an infinitely cooler word but I’ll take either here.

Ah, the Gino Torretta qualification.
December 3rd, 2012 at 9:33 PM
Manzier played 4 aq teams with a winning record, 5 tds 4 picks. Not heisman worthy.
December 3rd, 2012 at 11:15 PM
He out-offensed Newton and Tebow in approximately 9 games of playing time. He sat out the equivalent of 12 quarters with A&M crushing their opponents.
Win or not, he’s my favorite Aggie football players of all time already. The kid is electric.
December 3rd, 2012 at 11:40 PM
Actually it’s probably Antwaan Randle El, who was #6 in the voting that year as a QB.
December 4th, 2012 at 3:12 AM
Seems like eva evangelina is ugly hairless or hairy
December 4th, 2012 at 9:45 PM
How many total games did Tebow and newton play? Pretty sure they were involved in a few blowouts. How did they do against aq teams with a winning record?
I agree, manzier is awesome, the ags are set. But the narrative on this guy is a little nuts.
December 4th, 2012 at 10:07 PM
how many guys are gonna call him manzier? is that like a bro for moobs?
December 4th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
nm, it’s only one person. i’m inching out on a limb: it’s a joke
