Debbie Yow has her man. North Carolina State has hired Northern Illinois’ Dave Doeren as its next head football coach. He will start at around $1.8 million per season.

“Coach Dave Doeren is a highly motivated overachiever who shares our goals to pursue aggressively a high level of achievement in the classroom and on the field of competition,” stated Yow.

Doeren went 23-4 in two years at Northern Illinois, 15-1 inside the MAC. His 2012 team went 12-1, beat Kent State 44-37 last night to win the MAC title and ranked in the Top 15 in both yards per play offense and yards per play defense. He’s definitely a solid coach.

Whether he can recruit on a top level to push N.C. State from mediocre to awesome remains to be seen. For all the ambition, this remains a program that has won double-digit games once.
