Charlie Strong Denies Interviewing with Auburn After Newspaper Report Says He Did
Charlie Strong, the Louisville coach who would be in high demand if the Cardinals hadn’t just moved to the ACC, is alleged to have interviewed for the Auburn coach opening this week.
According to the Birmingham News (a reputable newspaper, not some fan site throwing shit against the wall):
Auburn has interviewed Louisville head coach Charlie Strong in one of its first moves to find a replacement for Gene Chizik.
The interview took place in the last two days, al.com has learned, according to someone familiar with the process.
First thought: Hey, Charlie Strong’s looking for a raise! Second thought: Come on, no way this is true, right?
Well, Pete Thamel of SI called up Charlie Strong to check in.
Just spoke to Charlie Strong. He’s angry. He says he did not interview at Auburn and has not spoken to them. “It’s not true.”

Glad that’s cleared up. Tough to imagine Strong interviewing for a bad coaching job* on a short week with a BCS trip hanging in the balance. The guess here has been Bobby Petrino (the latest from Bruce Feldman says Petrino, too). It’ll be him or … yikes.
* Auburn’s only a bad job right now because you’re recruiting against mighty Nick Saban in-state, and the NCAA is pissed the Tigers got away with Cam Newton. The NCAA is going to keep snooping until they find something – anything – that sticks.

Cheating* or not, didn’t Chizik prove that you can win going up against Saban? The guy did win a national title + exceeded expectations in 3 of his 4 seasons there.
*They all cheat

How much of that is due to Cam and how much is due to Chizik?

Anyone watching OSU/DUKE? What a joke. Fuck the refs and these announcers.
November 28th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
The announcers are killing my ears. Prolly gonna mute the tv and fire up some Christmas music for the second half. Sing it, Burl…

“That could’ve been a foul…”
Oh really Bilas? Duke tackled the OSU dude going to the basket. That call on Craft was bullshit.

Didn’t the NCAA let them get away with Cam Newton? Saying dad shopping him for cash was not a violation? Seems like they could have gotten them then if they wanted to.

A Louisville coach lying about interviewing with Auburn? That has never happened before.
Charlie Strong, the Louisville coach who would be in high demand if the Cardinals hadn’t just moved to the ACC,
Lateral move for football.

And goodness. Duke/OSU. I’ll say it again, I love early season hoops.

OSU game is brutal. Until someone becomes a 2nd shooting option (for the love of God stop, Shannon Scott), this team is gonna struggle.

Does this mean that schools were interested but, now that he’s an ACC coach, nobody is interested in pulling burning logs from that fire?

I’m not worried. Craft has been awful. But he can shoot. So can Smith and Ross.

if you boosters don’t pony up some more money for some better candidates, we’ll totally hire a black guy. You’ve been warned. – Auburn

here’s some potential Jets GMs.

Playing some of the best defense in the country certainly helps keep them competitive.
I have high hopes for Ross becoming a cold-blooded assassin. Smith seems more like he’s filling the David Lighty glue guy role, which is fine.

What a choke job. Typical Thad.

You can usually blame Matta for only using 6 guys, but I think this is more a case of Craft playing the worst game of his career.

I laughed. That was good.

Jesus Christ Craft…
Get the ball in DT’s hands dammit.

Not good basketball. But at least it is competitive bad basketball.

OSU is playing at Duke. A really good Duke team. They are in it. If OSU wins, this is huge in March in front of the committee.

Forget everything I just posted.

Got boat raced when it mattered. Oh well, ’tis early. Not like they’re a title contender anyway.
November 28th, 2012 at 11:35 PM
Nice of OSU to fold against a Duke team that couldnt hit the ocean n the first half…..

I laughed hard enough that I had to explain to my wife the entire dynamic of this site as she was curious what I was laughing at.

So…the Pistons actually beat the Suns by 40 points????????? How did that happen
November 29th, 2012 at 12:47 AM
Auburn’s never been a really attractive job. Neither Chizik nor Tuberville were ever anybody’s idea of a hot candidate at the time they were hired. But it’s worth noting the last 3 coaches all posted undefeated seasons.
OSU is not going to win many games this year when Craft struggles offensively. Duke is just better positioned to survive an off game from one of its stars – Seth Curry looked like he shouldn’t have been on the court tonight.

Strong interviewed with Auburn.
And it’s a plenty attractive job, McIntyre needs to stick to complaining about the Jets.
