The Big East Adds Tulane and East Carolina, Should Just Rename Itself Conference USA
The ACC has become a re-branded Big East. The Big East has become a re-branded Conference USA. Tulane will become the latest addition to the conference, adding a moderate amount of theoretical television eyeballs and no athletic prowess. East Carolina will join in football. This collection of teams lacks any coherence or congruity. The conference has become the island of misfit toys, but far less charming.
Tulane is terrible. In football, the Green Wave have not been bowl eligible since 2002. They have not won five games since 2004. They have lost seven-straight to Memphis. MEMPHIS. In basketball, Tulane has not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 1995. Now, they are moving up a level. East Carolina: decent program under Skip Holtz, just getting back to decency under Ruffin McNeill.
With no privileged football postseason access, there is really no point. The Big East is not adding BYU. There’s a strong possibility Boise State and San Diego State will rejoin the Mountain West. The ACC should take at least one team. Looking at a potential 2014 membership…Yuck.
East: UConn/Louisville, South Florida, Central Florida, Temple, East Carolina
West: Tulane, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Cincinnati
Good luck getting that massive TV deal.

Except for the 8-4 record this year
November 27th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Appalachian State to CUSA, Michigan’s upcoming loss to them looks a lot better.
November 27th, 2012 at 12:58 PM
This shit is really getting out of hand.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:00 PM
Wow. I really don’t understand adding either of these teams. THeir athletic teams add nothing to Big East.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:01 PM
If I was a recruit I would pick my team based on the level of boozing I could do and would probably pick Tulane. Get my Stephen Garcia on. Is there a better school location for drunkards coming out of high school?
November 27th, 2012 at 1:03 PM
This is getting ugly. Who’d pay for that TV deal? I don’t understand “branding” that well, I guess, because wtf is The Big East now? Weird more than anything. They may just need a third level of college FB. BCS, Mid-Major, FCS.

This is awful. Everyone here in CT is hoping the ACC comes calling for the Huskies and not Louisville. How does MSG want to keep the Big East tourney. If UConn gets invite to ACC then maybe MSG will take on the ACC tourney.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:07 PM
remember that one year Tulane was good?

Should Just Rename Itself Conference USA
I saw that on Twitter this morning as well. There should be a TBL sponsored contest to come up with a new name.
I wish the Big 12 would just get it over with and add Louisville and BYU.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:07 PM
I read that this move was made in anticipation of losing UConn or Louisville if not both. That makes this all the more crazy.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:08 PM
With the comments on the contest post locked.

People at UCF actually think the ACC or Big 12 will come calling. Their crazy, right?
November 27th, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Basketball only schools are gonna join the A-18, and Uconn to the ACC, Louisville to the Big 12, Cincinnati…is prolly screwed.

November 27th, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Has anyone seen Memphis play football since DeAngelo Williams left? They would come in last in the MAC. Every year.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:17 PM
they had that DT dontari poe last year and all i remember reading from all his draft nuggets were “stuck on a bad memphis team.” judging by their scores/record…yea, UGLY.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:18 PM
I would love to see the Midwestern schools form a basketball conference of:
Marquette
Memphis
Creighton
Butler
St. Louis
Xavier
Dayton
Wichita St
November 27th, 2012 at 1:18 PM
Are we at the point now with the MAC being better than the Big East. I do love me some MACtion.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
It just seems weird to me that Matt Forte and Mewelde Moore both went to Tulane.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:19 PM
I saw him on NBC Sports the other day. He blew up. Pushing 3 bills.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Poor DePaul. Almost entirely forgotten about since the early 80′s.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Haha. I actually just thought of them too. I think you can look at Lavin at St Johns and see that there is potential there.
So throw in DePaul and maybe BYU and that’s a pretty impressive mid-major basketball conference.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Actually excited for Kent State-Northern Illinois championship game.
/KSU should be undefeated. How they lost to Kentucky, I don’t know…
November 27th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
wonder who scoops up darrell hazell…dude’s mawney. hated to see him leave tressel’s staff.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
The Big East basketball schools should break off and try to form some kind of super cnference. They might be able to get a better TV deal than the football schools.
Georgetown
St Johns
Villanova
Providence
Marquette
Seton Hall
Butler
Gonzaga
Xavier
and all of the MVC.
Just do it.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
Is this even debatable? Akron already beat the Big East’s likely BCS team. NIU would win the league.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Do what now?
November 27th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Please save Uconn from this fucking abyss ACC. Really considering Louisville? The school that splits fans in it’s own city and has no other fans in the state.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
ACC suing the Terps for taking the B1G money.

November 27th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
ACC going after football is misguided. They’ll always have a mediocre ceiling, while they could build a basketball super conference. This is why Pitt over Uconn was asinine to me.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Louisville has a football program that is moderately relevant and Louisville basketball isn’t a dying breed.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Wow.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
The ACC is likely looking to add a 14th full member, with many speculating that a decision could come by next week as to who that school would be. It seems that UConn and Louisville are in a fight for that spot
November 27th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
UConn to the ACC and Louisvill to the Big 12 just makes sense. Therefore, it probably won’t happen.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Hearing Stoop (Mark) to Kentucky
November 27th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
Would love to see FSU and Clemson’s reaction to the ACC adding UConn. They will be begging the Big 12 to take them if that happens. Only way to appease those schools is to bring on Louisville. What a disaster
November 27th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
What’s veto power like in the Big 12? Can’t imagine WVU being too big on a Kentucky school.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Louisville has about 20 fans and are located in a tv non-market. Uconn has been just as good as Louisville in football since joining the Big East. “A dying breed” haha. I understand Calhoun left, but comparing the two basketball programs is pointless. Uconn is now a blueblood. Louisville is Kentucky’s retarded little brother. An NC State-UNC type relationship. There’s also the pesky facts that Uconn has consistently pumped out NBA players, is in a much more fertile recruiting area, and is building an awesome practice facility.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:52 PM
Wasnt one of the Bowdens head coach of that team.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
Yeah but you think Wade’s jaw line is evidence of something.
November 27th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
Just nothing good
November 27th, 2012 at 1:58 PM
Yes I do.
November 27th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
They won their last four games this year. Hot streak!
November 27th, 2012 at 3:08 PM
They have not won five games since 2004
Weird. Something must have happened at the beginning of the season in 2005 to change things for the worse…
