Monday Night Football: Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles
Boy, was I wrong about Carolina and primetime games this year. I thought the league erred in not putting Carolina on more than twice among its one hundred plus primetime or stand alone games this year. Now, here we are, and the 2-8 Panthers will go against the 3-7 Eagles.
Of course, it is the other side of tonight’s equation that is the truly dreadful draw. Carolina has been imminently entertaining this year, even if it has been in a rubbernecking sort of way to see how they will screw it up. Carolina has been in all but two of their games this year until the final minutes. One of them, of course, was in their only other prime time game.
The Eagles, though, have been way worse. This looked like it was going to be Cam Newton and Michael Vick. Now, it is Nick Foles, and no LeSean McCoy either. Philadelphia has been steadily slipping into the abyss all season. The Andy Reid era is over, though the exact ending remains to be written. A team that was flawed but winning close has devolved to one where the offensive line has gotten even more injured, and where the defense has managed to get worse after Juan Castillo was fired. Last week was one of the worst looking Philadelphia performances on both sides of the ball in quite some time.
So congratulations, America, the prize is the Panthers at the Eagles. Carolina feels like the much better team at this point, but a team that is 2-8 and has managed to blow late leads in half their games can’t be considered much better than anyone.

Was watching a documentary on Kenny Rogers. Just stopped in to see what condition my condition was in.
Just in time to see LaFell run free for another score. Those Philly fans really know how to boo, don’t they?

Does DeMeco Ryans still play for the Eagles? Because I haven’t heard his name called, sort of like the last couple of years in Houston, only then he was barely on the field. Must be hard playing with a giant fork sticking out of his back.

Bucks with one of the biggest comebacks I ever seen tonite.
At Chicago, down by 24 with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd. By 6 minutes left in the game, it was tied.
November 26th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Bucks were down 78-54, then it was tied at 82.

Was Monta Ellis in the middle of it?

So I get home from work to discover 3 things:
1. TBLAD is on life support.
2. Gruden has been hired as head of Cam Newton’s PR team.
3. Roth vodka is the way to go for your holiday martinis.

Nope. Him and Jennings were struggling, so with 2 minutes to go in the 3rd Skiles sat every starter and the guys off the bench went crazy. Ilyasova had his first decent game all year with 18 off the bench, Udoh and Udrih with 11 each off the bench as Ellis and Jennings watched.

ESPN is doing a bottom line update on Fireman Ed. Fuck me running. Is that rock bottom for them?
November 26th, 2012 at 10:40 PM
Wait, the ellis/jennings combo doesn’t work? I’ve only said that since the trade happened. A terrible formula if you want to win
November 26th, 2012 at 10:41 PM
Not even close.

Espn covering tim tebows birthday was pretty awful

PK in soccer? It’s usually a more direct opportunity to score in a game not known for scoring (“football” WAGs excepted).
November 26th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
i mean you can pick just about anything they do except outside the lines and some of the 30 for 30s. it’s a general gagfest

ESPN has backed off on covering actual news as a top priority; now, it wants to cover what blogs are talking about: Whatever drives traffic. Same thing people will click on, they’ll watch.

good one PD

At least it was a PI. Seems about a third of the time now there isn’t any contact worth mentioning. NFL needs to think about making it 15 yards and a first down, which i used to be against, but cripes, this is epidemic.

i think what frosts people most is the jumping on/blowing media darlings they’ve created, lowest common denominator, seeming east-coast bias coverage. especially at the expense of other athletes/teams doing as well or better.
manti te’o/julius jones and two or three other defensive players is just a latest example

the pne against wingfield v. marshall was brutal. marshall abused him. PIs in the EZ are as bad or worse than the 50-yarders. 3rd and goal from the 9? how’s about a first and goal from the 1?
if they could filter it by the possibility of the ball being caught, i’d be more agreeable to severe yardage, but the infraction itself doesn;t always clearly obstruct

Here’s where I disagree with that assessment. I used to love (repeat, LOVE) watching sumo wrestling and roller hockey and paintball when it aired on ESPN or ESPN 2. But I probably wouldn’t read anything about them.

I do not disagree with this. However, Fox, NBC, and CBS are attempting to make inroads. No such thing as Too Big Too Fail anymore. Innovation.

Re: penalties. I’m probably more anti spot foul on PI than anyone. Partly because the nature of the rule assumes the ball will be caught, and partly because NFL officials rarely exercise discretion when throwing the flag (often because of pressure from the league office). And don’t get me started on how officials don’t even consider the phrase “uncatchable ball” anymore. 15 yards and a free first down is enough.
All that said, the PK is more crucial to a game. Huge conversion percentage, massive impact on the outcome, frequently subjective. Soccer needs more officials on the field as well to ensure they have the eyes in place to determine what’s a flop and what’s a true PK.

It could work, if you’re a) willing to wait a while longer, and b) set up yet another character re-boot to build acceptance of Levitt in the role.
I’d watch a JLA movie, but you got a lot of characters to develop first. Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, maybe one of Martian Manhunter/Atom/Green Arrow. And, re-tool Supes, Batman, GL.

I feel like Snyder is going to sneak him into Man of Steel. That would be such a Snyder thing to do.
