Auburn Under NCAA Investigation For Potential Football Violations
The NCAA is investigating the Auburn football program for recruiting violations and improper benefits. Multiple assistants have been pulled off the road from recruiting.
From Yahoo! Sports:
According to multiple sources, NCAA investigators have spent weeks looking into potential improprieties involving Auburn recruits, players, coaches, representatives of the school’s athletic interests and third parties. Assistant coaches Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper have been scrutinized by the NCAA, sources said. Taylor is the assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, while Luper coaches running backs and is the recruiting coordinator.
Both Taylor and Luper were taken off the road recruiting several weeks ago amid the NCAA probe, sources said.
Auburn University cheating at college football, you say? The school that has been investigated multiple times, accused even more times and been dinged with not one, not two but three postseason/TV bans over its history was not running things above board? Not shocking anyone.
One noteworthy factor? This may offer Auburn an outlet to fire Chizik with cause and not pay his buyout.
Too late to self-impose a bowl ban?

I’m sure Mark Emmert will slap down a might probation period and force them to vacate all of their wins this year. Then, they will continue to pretty much look the other way since they are in the SEC.

The Memphis story is a funny thing – Auburn was the school who informed the NCAA that the kid’s transcript was off. Given that he’s basically the only kid Auburn has signed out of there during the Chizik era, I don’t think this will go anywhere.
The “other” issue relates to a what I am told is secondary violation. The “multiple” coaches – by which Ty really means “two” – were held off the recruiting circuit until it got sorted out. Of course, both will be fired anyway, so I doubt that it matters much.
The real story is the timing – this has been old news in the Alabama press for six weeks, yet Pat Forde picked Iron Bowl week to roll it out nationally. He really hates Auburn for the Cam stuff.
And Ty, despite your attempts at painting Auburn as a dirty school, the last football related probation that the school got ended… in 1994.

Jordan Diamond and Reuben Foster both got straight cash homey.

Similar to when Miss State blew the whistle on Cam Newton for not accepting their money as proof that Auburn was shady.

Maybe they did, Vlad, but there’s no evidence of that outside what people say on Rivals message boards. Diamond publicly denied those rumors FWIW.
They also aren’t the subject of this investigation, at least not yet.

The SEC is professional football so why can’t you pay the athletes when you recruit them?

Here in lies the problem: “That’s what he wanted,” Wardlow said. “He has a right to have what he wanted. Everybody has a right to have what they want. I know he’s a target right now, but he has the right to have it.”
