How did multiple people who are supposedly in the know about football make a pick this horrifically off?

Cleveland has an all-pro LT (Joe Thomas) and their RT (Mitchell Schwartz) has been the best rookie tackle in football this year. Tackle is literally the single position the Browns are least likely to address.

On other topics: Jarvis Jones has all the talent in the world, and Spinal Stenosis. I think his talent keeps him in the first, his medical concerns drop him to the twenties. Barkevious Mingo is probably the 4th best DE right now, maybe 5th. I could definitely see Werner, Dion Jordan, Moore, and Montgomery all going ahead of him. Warmack is a Guard, you don’t take guards top 10. Everyone said DeCastro was the best in a decade and he went in the 20s. If Damontre Moore comes out he’s a top 5 pick. He has excelled in both a 3-4 and 4-3 in college and this year he’s done it vs. the SEC. Geno Smith will be a top 10 pick because he’s the #2 QB, not because he deserves it.

I’m almost positive he wasn’t on the field for Senior Day this last weekend. I was a bit late getting to my seats, but I checked and didn’t see 77 on the field. There were several other red-shirt juniors on the field though.

He wasn’t, but the redshirt juniors out there were backups and walk-ons that are graduating and done with their college careers. Personally, I’d be shocked (but thrilled) if he stays.

Browns need a pass rushing DE and another CB to bookend Haden. They need another LB, but I think that can be gotten via FA.

Browns do need a guard (or 2), but that can be had in later rounds or again through FA.

Probably staying in school. I’m almost positive he wasn’t on the field for Senior Day this last weekend. I was a bit late getting to my seats, but I checked and didn’t see 77 on the field. There were several other red-shirt juniors on the field though.

He hasn’t been able to show off his run blocking as much this year because most of Denard’s runs go to the middle. It doesn’t help that the guards aren’t great at pulling, so not much ends up going his way. From interviews and other things I’ve read, he puts a lot of stock into living up to the precedent that Jake Long set, and he knows he isn’t there yet.

With more of a conventional QB next year, he could easily improve his draft position. So again, don’t be surprised if he stays in school one more year.
