So Maryland votes on moving to the Big Ten today. The Big 10-11 will finally have 12 teams. Unlike the Big 12 who only has 10.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
My fault, they already have 12 teams. Forgot about Nebraska.

How good of schools are Rutgers and Maryland?
November 19th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Do not want either MD or Rutgers.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Absolutely awful decision
For Maryland? Are you kidding? I can’t stomach all the sanctomonious writers whining about conference realignment. It’s called competing. Competing requires money. Same with research departments, et al. Moving to the Big 10 will bring in more money for Maryland and Rutgers. And it isn’t like being in the ACC and Big East has brought national prominence to either school.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
I liked it. I wouldn’t enjoy hanging around hipsters for a substantial length of time.
Interesting read, and it opens an intriguing argument about the evolution of the role of sex in society. There seems to be a more overt forgiveness for cheating. But, the damage left behind is no joke.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
Steelers D looked great – 10 of those points were on Special Teams/TO’s. But, they still cannot get anybody to turn the ball over. It’s comical at this point how few TO’s they’ve generated in the last 2 seasons.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
IMO Both MD and Rutgers benefit from this move. For the teams already in? Yeah I don’t see how really.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:49 AM

David Simon balls so, so hard.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:52 AM
IMO Both MD and Rutgers benefit from this move. For the teams already in? Yeah I don’t see how really.
Again it’s called competing. More money is brought to all conference schools by opening up the East Coast television markets. It’s a win win for all involved. And this isn;t just funding the school’s football programs. It pays for the non-revenue producing sports also. Putting aside everyone’s tradition aspirations the move makes complete sense.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
now THIS is a rip-job…not that guy fieri bullshit from last week.

At least put some BBQ sauce on that thing
Conversely, it’s comical how inept the Ravens offense continues to be outside of Baltimore. There is simply no rational explanation for how that team lights it up at home and then struggles to get even a first down on the road.
Twice in five road games the Ravens offense has not scored a TD (they’re 2-0 in those games, somehow). Mind-boggling.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
Eagles in the top 5? Hopefully they have a brand new football operations head (the Accountant needs to go), and they pick the best OL.
November 19th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
there’s an extremely rational explanation for it…joe flacco.

Not for Maryland fans. 70 percent of those in a WaPo poll want Maryland to stay in the ACC. Same with a Baltimore Sun poll.
Maryland is a basketball school and a charter member of the ACC. The league just added Pitt and Syracuse as the Big east crumbles, making it the premiere college hoops league in America. Why fly now, especially when it will cost you $50 million?
November 19th, 2012 at 8:56 AM

TV markets. They also had to watch academic standards after letting PSU and Nebraska in. I was hoping to scoop up Baylor (to open TX for TV and recruiting) in a Big 12 meltdown but that never happened.

Lessee, the Cards have remaining Rams, @ Jets, @ Seahawks, Detroit, da Bears and @ San Fran.
Smallie, what do you think? No insult intended, but other than the Rams game, AZ could very well lose all the rest. AZ’s offense hast to come alive to prevent those losses.

The school officials know that if they move to the Big 10 the fans aren’t going anywhere. And apprarently they also don’t believe the $50 million will stick. Threaten legal action and negotiate it down to $20 million or so. Like it or not the Big 10 is a better opportunity for Maryland long-term.

think of baltimore as flacco’s first read…predictable, safe. the road is him metaphorically reading a defense where three things can happen and two of em are bad.

So Maryland votes on moving to the Big Ten today.
makes sense, as they are allergic to offense.

teams with more wins than the Eagles:
Buffalo, Miami, Jets, Titans, Chargers, Redskins, Cardinals.
I’d say yeah, with Vick/McCoy now hurt, you’re looking at a top 5 pick.
will be tough to mock them, considering the new coach and so many holes. could be a lot of turnover.

The piece didn’t really tell us anything most people didn’t know already, but it was refreshingly honest. At the tail end of it they focused on the how the players were full time employees of the team and also had academic responsibilities. They never mentioned the players not being paid.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
And the Cards will score a combined 20 points in all 6 games.
O-line seems like a no brainer

November 19th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
Looking forward to this since the usual mock draft sites are constantly tweaking to the point of eliminating major swings.

Anyone see the 60 Minutes piece last night about college football? It pretty much explains how every decision related to college football is made. It’s all about the money.
Who did the piece? Scott Pelley? Or Captain Obvious?
It was Captain Obvious. Nothing new or ground breaking. The cool piece was about how the Columbian drug lords were busted. $41 million dollars packed in fertilizer. Crazy.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:07 AM
The Cardinls aren’t winning another game this year. They are the most inept offense I can ever remember, and there were a lot of bad offenses over the year. It’s a shame too, because that defense deserves much, much better.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
The Ravens have 3 plays in their playbook. 1. run the ball with ray rice. 2. screen pass to ray rice. 3. fuck it, I’m going deep.
Also, Mike Wallace deserves only 50 cents on his next contract. Guy gave zero effort last night.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
I’m sure the B1G is making the smart business move and a lot of that has to do with television sets. I would have liked to see them get a Texas school too; maybe TCU. Admittedly, I have no clue if TCU would fit academically.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
I went to a wedding on Saturday where the groom was a hipster, so of course all of his hipster friends were there. it’s a good thing we left early, or I probably would have said something regrettable.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Off the top of my head, the top needs are: OL, QB, CB/S, TE, DL.
It also does depend upon the new coach and if the Accountant GM is gone.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:09 AM
You’re beiung very generous with theCardinals offense.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
While it sucks for the rivalry/travel aspect, it is in Maryland’s best interest to join the Big 10.

November 19th, 2012 at 9:10 AM
I don’t get this. Maryland has had some notable basketball teams in the past and they won a title in 2002. What kind of prominence are we talking about here? Every sports fan in the country knows who Maryland is and associates them with the ACC.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Hey Jerky – PSU is ranked ahead of a bunch of the “traditional” Big Ten schools in academics (OSU, Purdue, Minny, etc.)
November 19th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Use “coincidence.”
That’s like being the smartest kid with Down Syndrome. There’s no money in basketball. To monetize it, you have to start a tourney outside the NCAA. Even then, it’s peanuts compared to football $$$.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
I would love it if Play No. 2 actually existed in the Ravens arsenal. Alas, it does not.
The three plays are as follows:
1. Run straight ahead into the line
2. 8-yard out on third and 10
3. Bomb to double-covered Torrey Smith down the sidelines that has almost no chance of being completed
Slants, screens, crossing patterns — Cam Cameron refuses to acknowledge these exist. I almost stroked out last night when he came out of that timeout needing two yards to win the game and put Flacco in the shotgun.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
He has to bring down that TD pass in bounds. No excuse why the left foot didn’t hit/drag in play.

With Ben out defense/special teams needed big plays, didnt get them. Although Hampton and Harrison are playing themselves into shape, about time.
AB cant get back soon enough, Wallace is a one trick pony. Has zero ball skills, and that fumble was brutal. Killed all momentum.

not to defend Mike Wallace, because he is a turd, but holy shit Byron Leftwich is awfully terrible at quarterbacking.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
OSU and academics generally aren’t used the same sentence, except ironically.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
I’ve always been amazed at how many of Joe Flacco’s throws seem to be to the right half of the field. It’s his first/only look on most plays. Would love to see data on his pass distribution.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Who’s excited for Campbell v. Kaepernick tonight?
November 19th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
I used to love that play. Kyle Boller would just chuck a jump ball high over the middle ensuring that some safety would have a 15-yard head start on the hit. But hey, he could throw 60 yards from his knees so there’s that.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Maryland, like Syracuse, is a basketball school leaving the best basketball conference in the country for football reasons. Maybe Maryland’s justification is the opportunity to be a Big 10 option for football recruits not only in the Southeast, but with Penn State’s issues for the next few years, the Northeast as well.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:17 AM
I like this. It works. Although I think Flacco will never reach “great” status, I would like to see how he would do with another OC. The play calling just sucks. ALthough it doesn’t help that I don’t think Flacco is very bright.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
He does throw right a lot and I have no idea why.
I’d pay a lot of money to see what a semi-competent offensive coordinator could do with that team.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:18 AM
Bunch? Behind only NW and Michigan, in the same group as Illinois and Wisky. Nebraska is the dead weight, Maryland/Rutgers even beat them.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
I don’t get this. Maryland has had some notable basketball teams in the past and they won a title in 2002. What kind of prominence are we talking about here? Every sports fan in the country knows who Maryland is and associates them with the ACC.
Point noted. Maryland has had a few really good Basketball teams and a championship in 2002. The same can be achieved in the Big 10. But more money will be available to fund football and other sports.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
I don’t think there’s any debate that Cam Cameron is the worst O-coordinator in the league. And I’d say the worst coach is either Garrett or Norv. But who’s the worst D-coordinator?
November 19th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
He’s a slightly better version of DeSean Jackson. Not sure he’d make my top 10 WRs… AJ Green, Megatron, Fitz (poor guy), V-Jax, Harvin, Marshall, Julio Jones, Cruz, Andre Johnson, White, Nicks, Wayne, maybe Bowe…
November 19th, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Big 10 is looking for large research universities (which really focuses on graduate programs), prefereably state schools. They tried going after Texas, but the Longhorn Network screwed that up.
For undergraduate education, yes, but what’s important is the research $$$. Since joining the Big 10 and the CIC, penn state’s research $$$ has increased significantly. This is why when you hear all sots of butt-hurt from fans about leaving the Big 10, the faculty and administration know what they’d lose (same hold true for Maryland – faculty and amdministation know what they’d gain from association with the Big 10 and the CIC).

November 19th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
I think winning becomes harder in the Big 10.
Lets not pretend this is about anything other than TV deal money. Maryland’s athletic department has been a dumpster fire since Anderson took over. Gary quit, they made a terrible hire with Edsall, and they shut down seven sports for lack of funding. They need money and so their jumping to a conference with deeper pockets.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:23 AM
I had no choice but to watch CNN at the gym this morning for an hour. Their “Early Start” show has got to be the worst thing on all of cable news. At least FNC doesn’t pretend to be a real news station. This shit just has every trait of any sketch of a shitty newscast, just bitches smiling at each other after every report on Gaza, then fifteen minutes on holiday travel and Justin Bieber, five clips of the Anderson Cooper explosion in one hour, and more than anything just constant fucking laughing back and forth at each other. Just vacuous fucking nonsense.
But I’m sure having the Israeli President on Piers Morgan tonight will provide a super unbiased view of the war. Worst network in news by far.

Though if I were the Big 10, I’d try and go after UNC and UVa. Lock down NJ (NYC’s the white whale), MD., DC, Va. and NC TV markets.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
This is 100% factual. As a butt hurt fan I’ve said we should leave, but as an academic I know that would be bad news. Joe’s “legacy” will be getting us into the B1G, which was huge for all the reasons you stated.

Yards wise, last years 3rd string fullback (Zwinack) will finish the year with more. Enjoy the New Mexico Bowl!
November 19th, 2012 at 9:31 AM
Just because more money coming in from conference share, doesn’t mean it will be spent wisely.
They were in a hole when they brought Anderson in, and he dug them further into the hole, so much so that they cut a bunch of their non-revenue sports. They are chasing the dollar here but just because they get it, doesn’t mean they will know how to use it.

November 19th, 2012 at 9:38 AM

November 19th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
The Coastal Division is the worst division in BCS football. But yes, they were in a position where if they won against Duke they would have made it.
It’s partly that, it’s also part that Miami didn’t even know if they would be bowl eligible until they beat USF Saturday.

Remember when some people thought PSU would only win 3 games because Silas Redd and some WR with 400 yards transferred? Good times.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
No I didn’t, unless you thought I meant Sammy White up there
November 19th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I don’t begrudge anyone for transferring, but since it became a reward of sorts for, of all people, Kiffin and the clean as a whistle USC program, I’m fucking ecstatic.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
Best I can tell, there’s a grand total of 1 (ONE) comment out of the first 130 that is about boobs.
I don’t like this ratio.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
If you include j. Jones then white has to b there. Jones maybe more. Talented but white has great numbers
November 19th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
I must have blacked out, because I do not remember that at all. I think the Lions scoring was Leshore TD, FG, FG and CJ TD.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:51 AM
The same reason numerous holding calls on defense weren’t called against the Lions…Ron Winter’s crew is the worst in the league.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:52 AM
hey! Packers won. no complaining.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:53 AM
As far as he knows, Mr. Roth said, the only other writer to retire when he still had something on his fastball, so to speak, was E. M. Forster, who stopped writing in his 40s.
J.D. Salinger called and said to fuck off with this nonsense. (Admittedly, he stopped publishing but not writing but when it was self-administered and the readers got nothing it’s all the same).
November 19th, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Not complaining, just pointing out the facts. Like if Shaun Hill had been playing Lions would have destroyed the Pack. I thought Vlad was exaggerating with Stafford, but he was extremely inaccurate.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:55 AM
Couldn’t the B1G do better than Maryland and Rutgers?
Rutgers, maybe. MD No.
You’re not going to bust up tobacco rd and you want east coast TV eyes.
As bad as the b1g football has been and as good as the b1g basketball has been, it makes sense.
Also, there was a time when there was a bit of a Penn St – MD “rivalry”. While small and emphasized mostly by MD fans, it’s something.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:55 AM

Because Matt Stafford and Scott Linehan touch each other at night. Seriously fuck those guys. At least Shawn Jefferson vocally raped Linehan on the sideline after that pussy ass redzone play calling. WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CALVIN SAN DIEGO?
November 19th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
Randy Edsall and Brett Bielema in the same conference does have a certain je ne sais qua.
November 19th, 2012 at 9:59 AM
It was on a 3rd and goal on the 9 with 5(?) minutes left. The play before the FG that put the lions up 20-14. The DB tackled Young in the end zone before the ball got there.

The Ravens have 3 plays in their playbook. 1. run the ball with ray rice. 2. screen pass to ray rice. 3. fuck it, I’m going deep.
I miss seeing 4. Lets try and get Todd Heap murdered
That was also easily my favorite Baltimore play. I don’t know that anybody will ever walk away from football more concussed than Todd Heap.

According to these numbers, Maryland will go from barely breaking even to better than barely breaking even. But they will get more revenue…which means more for coach’s and athletic dept. salaries, no doubt.

I was pretty drunk and may have just blinked. But how the hell did Merle grab Maggie when he had 2 guns on him? And Michonne sucks, the show sucks. Rick Sucks.

Maryland
ACC
$61,634,829 (revenue)
$61,632,000 (expenses)
$15,861,641 (subsidy)
25.7% (subsidy percent)
Assuming those figures are with the current ACC TV contract, with just the initial Big 10 Network money, Maryland breaks even. With the Big 10 TV deal up in 2015, at which point Maryland will be nearing the full BTN share, you’re looking at $20-30m in profit.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Can we talk Skyfall yet?
November 19th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
But for somebody who really, really wanted to see his brother, old knife arm kind of dropped that.
I don’t think he dropped it as much as he put his personal goals aside for a minute. He’s probably happy to torture the information out of Glenn.
But he and the governor seem hell bent on being the only men left on earth. They had about 90 people to start with, right? And they have killed off several of their own able bodied men, and nearly a dozen other able bodied men.
I really don’t know how they’re getting all their chores done in that town.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
Oh bullshit we didn’t even get to see Owen die?
November 19th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
I was pretty drunk and may have just blinked. But how the hell did Merle grab Maggie when he had 2 guns on him?
because neither glenn nor his girlfriend have the stones to actually shoot, and he knows that. He remembers that glenn was a huge pussy, and just a scrounge.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Oh bullshit we didn’t even get to see Owen die?
I am two weeks behind on that show. I may hold off on finishing it till the middle of december.
So no spoilers.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
I gotcha, but they set it up (the converstaion on the wall) as though Merle finding his brother was the one thing that would make him go against the Governor. Come to find out its not.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Hahahahaha she’s pregnant with the dead potato fucker’s baby. HILARIOUS!
November 19th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
he’s the fastest one-armed draw from the rear waistband in what’s left of America. Even if Glenn wouldn’t shoot him because of the ATL shit, Maggie should’ve.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Waiting on confirmation from dirt, but the show has reached back for suckitude on season 2 farm levels. The whole cliffhanger of the phone and then the payoff is dumb. Merle walking up 30 feet on Glen and Maggie, both armed and taking them hostage in a ridiculous manner.
I refuse to believe Cargulio made it this long in the zombie apocalypse being as retarded as he is.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
Whole ‘nother level of suspension of disbelief right there.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
SPOILER?
The whole point of Lori dying without Rick there was to leave unsaid words between the two, and now they want to make it seem like Rick gets closure from imaginary phone talk? And the fact that they ended the show last week with it. Once again I am watching this show all the way through but I can’t stand it.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
This season is so far better than the farm junk. Come on. I loved watching Rick’s slip into the abyss of crazy. Also great how Hershel picked up the phone and didnt hear a dial tone, but didnt try to mess with Rick’s delusion.
You know those 3 dudes with Merle in the woods were gonna die, though I dont know why Michonee waited around for them. Could’ve just been on her merry way.

Waiting on confirmation from dirt,
you don’t need me to know what you’re seeing. I watch it now kinda absentmindedly. It is what it is.
You think Herschel might have mentioned, though, that there was no dial tone on that telephone. Because there was obviously no dial tone on that telephone.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
You think Herschel might have mentioned, though, that there was no dial tone on that telephone. Because there was obviously no dial tone on that telephone.
if you are sitting in a room with crazy, do you point out to crazy that he’s crazy or just let him work through the crazy on his own?

I loved it. By far the best of the three Daniel Craig movies. Javier Bardem is so goddamned awesome. And [SPOILER ALERT] that moment where he busts out the old school Aston Martin complete with the old Bond theme gave me chills.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:37 AM
if you are sitting in a room with crazy, do you point out to crazy that he’s crazy or just let him work through the crazy on his own?
Why would he do that? Rick is crazy as shit.
he was as crazy as shit, until it became necessary for him to no longer be as crazy as shit, so that he could walk outside and see Michonne.
It was a pretty lame cliffhanger that paid off Walking Dead style.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
mole…how bad did you want owen and margaret to switch places in the box?
at least now nucky can kill her off nice and easy since she’s dead weight. tho the abortion scene where she flushes owen’s baby will be fun!
November 19th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
I kinda lose track of time in zombie world, but how long do you think Carol was hiding for? She looked to be in pretty rough shape, but I thought it had only been a day, 2 at most.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Why is she walking with the zombies? There’s so much I’m starting to get bitter about. Stupid phone and stupid Rick and Charmin soft Glenn losing major man points. Andrea’s scenes are downright unwatchable.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Very badly. I’m glad he’s dead though because all he’s done this season is have insufferable scenes with her.

SPOILERS; I was neutral about the Aston coming out. Breaking out the old Monty Norman theme as he drove in it was a bit tired though. It was okay but kind of a adult Home Alone at the end.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Because she had zombie guts smeared on her which makes her smell dead and hence the zombies don’t go after her. Which was used in season 1 and then kind of never brought up again. You’d think the real blood coming from her gunshot wound would also attract the zombies but the writers seem to be following the Lost model of make this shit us as we go.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
agreed…he was quite a pussball this season. and to think at one point i thought he’d be able to go toe to toe with richard…pssh.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Do you think the writers really stumped for the “Go Back” gimmick? Or do you think they just had some spare body parts lying around that were already sort of arranged and they thought it would be a funny inside joke to put it in the show? Either way it wasn’t clever and surely they didn’t think their samurai character lady was dumb enough to think somebody would read that and turn around.

Bwahaha, my girlfriend said the exact same thing and nearly ruined it for me. “I’m gonna kill that kid!!”

I’d still say it was the best of the Craig movies though. That new Moneypenny. DAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNN!
November 19th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Did I misunderstand him saying “you owe me” or did that guy ask him to kill his cousin?
November 19th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
I kinda lose track of time in zombie world, but how long do you think Carol was hiding for? She looked to be in pretty rough shape, but I thought it had only been a day, 2 at most.
two days, during which time the zombie killing group was ignoring the very obvious banging of an R Kelly type zombie, while instead “clearing the lower levels.”
November 19th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
that was awesome. So funny when he threatened to use the old ejector seat on M
November 19th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
f’real…how the fuck could those guys keep sticking around gyp when he’s that off the leash? and good job alienating your most trusted lieutenant, gyp…
November 19th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
“I’ve heard how this ends, it turns out the secret code was the same nursery rhyme he told his daughter!”
November 19th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Albert Finney trying to put the moves on M was classic. I was laughing there. Bardem was a fantastic Bond villian. He had gravitas but didn’t need to be absurdly over the top.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Either way it wasn’t clever
I thought it was clever. And it made it clear immediately that she knew they were coming. So nobody had to actually say that outloud. Then, naturally, Merle said it outloud.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:50 AM
Because she had zombie guts smeared on her which makes her smell dead and hence the zombies don’t go after her
I know that, but still. Walk somewhere else, lead them away. And don’t try and tell me she’s been out slaying zombies on her own forever and hasn’t figured out smearing it makes her invisible to them.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Its apparently official. Maryland is gone to the Big 10
November 19th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
In that scene, it sounded like they ripped the old Bond theme off the analog master tapes from 1961. They needed to polish that up a bit IMO.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Gyp meant you owe me in the sense that dude’s cousin was an idiot and wasted his time. I don’t think what’s his face asked for his own cousin to die.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
She used her chained zombies with teeth pulled out and arms cut off for that. It was dumb, there was no need to include that, she could have gotten to the prison some other way. Just like they could have had the Glen and Maggie taken hostage scene done way better.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Bardem knows how to rock the bad guy bad hairdos
November 19th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
because he did it quick instead of letting him drown in the tide?
maybe because he didn’t kill the lieutenant instead for bringing his idiot cousin aboard?
regardless…gyp’s played out. weak gear.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Now that you say that, it does remind me of that. Still, the end scene was pretty badass.
November 19th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
Is there still Boardwalk shit talking going on in here? Is it too late for me to get in on this?
November 19th, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Tough crowd. I think she’s in some pain, what with the gunshot wound and all. Think she probably just wanted to get there as soon as possible to get some sort of help for that.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:00 AM
cmon down!
November 19th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Ah yeah that makes sense.
Yeah Gyp is definitely played out.
If next season were just all NYC and Chicago I’d be happy with it. Nucky is played out as well.

Awesome. Let me start out by referring to my comments last night in the Anderson Cooper post: http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/2012/11/18/anderson-cooper-had-bomb-explode-near-him-kept-reporting-video/#comments
Regardless of what that rockchalk guy says, that particular twist is at best lazy writing and at worst a plot hole that could easily have been filled.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
/team gaston means
That’s because Stephen Root turns every role he touches into gold.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
agreed that it pissed me off they didn’t explain how owen’s plot got reveled early…was agent sawicki working both sides and i missed it?
November 19th, 2012 at 11:04 AM
He was played out last season. Didn’t watch last night but I’m assuming he sat out this week with that concussion.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
rockchalk’s comment…
yes joe DID need to know the when/where/how because otherwise, owen would still be alive. if he didnt know when or where it was gonna happen, how did he lay a trap for his assassin?
November 19th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
was agent sawicki working both sides and i missed it?
I considered that but there is no implication or even hint that he did. In the next two episodes they may explain how Rosetti’s came to know of the plot (and in turn how Lansky and Luciano were able to convey it to him as was strongly suggested at the bocci ball courts) but leaving that unexplained in this episode is not a cliffhanger and it’s not clever. It’s just arrogant or lazy.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
The only explanation I can think of is that Eddie is on the take from Rothstein. Would make Owen’s line about him seeing more than people realize a nit prescient. Also would be the kind of horribly hamfisted foreshadowing that the writers love.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
seriously…he’s doing an outrageous amount of heavy lifting with that character. i can imagine how difficult that was to pull off…and the subtle, intelligent complexity of means contrasts nicely* with the hamfisted gyp character.
*by nicely i mean it’s ridiculous that gyp and means are included in the same show…it’s like having mcnugget appetizers for your pittsburgh rare strip.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
yes joe DID need to know the when/where/how because otherwise, owen would still be alive. if he didnt know when or where it was gonna happen, how did he lay a trap for his assassin?
Exactly. And using the device that Rosetti and his boss were streetwise guys who would be wise to that sort of thing is a bullshit reason. If you are going to construct a narrative in a historical drama you have to connect all the points. If the audience has questions about how a particular plot twist happened given the information available to them, then the writers haven’t done their job.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
that’s really good, actually.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
I fell asleep like two seconds after I asked “What plot hole” in the Anderson Cooper post. But yeah, that doesn’t make any sense, does it?
November 19th, 2012 at 11:09 AM
You guys are way better than me with names. I call everybody that guy and dude and that one guy with the mustache and 1/2 face and bitch whore.

i kept waiting for harry daugherty to say to jess smith “5 iron? hah…you’re fired.”
November 19th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Having said all of that I was not surprised to see Sleator get killed. The second a box was delivered at 4am I knew he was going to be in it. The show’s writers need to realize that most of it’s audience was of age when the movie Se7en came out and have seen The Godfather.
I was just hoping Margaret would go with him. What was the point of that entire hospital/sex education story line…it came to nothing other than an obvious attempt at irony when we discover at the end that Margaret is pregnant.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Seriously, fuck Margaret.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:12 AM
im still asking myself what the point of margaret/nucky to begin with…it’s just so pointless.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:13 AM
I have hit the skip ahead button on every scene she’s been in all season. If you’re going to make a dull character, at least make her smoking hot… like what’s his face’s girlfriend on Treme.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Yeah that was so incredibly not tense at all.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Isn’t this the plot of “The Pacifier” with Vin Diesel.
/Peter Panda dance FTW.
November 19th, 2012 at 11:16 AM
im still asking myself what the point of margaret/nucky to begin with…it’s just so pointless.
They’ve turned her in particular and their relationship in general into a sort of commentary on the changing role of women at the time. The 1920s was really the beginning of women’s liberation and Margaret is struggling to identify with that while simultaneously realizing that that might mean leaving the wealth and comfort that she fell into ass backwards. As mole would say, it’s yet another ham fisted plot device stemmed in history which the writers have grown to love so much.
