Charlie Weis is Buying Kansas Students Tickets For Senior Day
All, College Football November 16th. 2012, 4:45pm
The man who has pilfered so much from universities is giving something back. Worried Kansas’ disappointing season would result in a diminished crowd for Senior Day, Charlie Weis announced on Twitter he will buy tickets for the game for any student who wants to go. Presumably, he won’t be waiting outside to punch you at half time if you try to leave. Accept his generosity. Don’t think this entitles you to ask questions.

My god he’s like Sloth had a fat and less successful younger brother.

How does this guy find the time to coach an NCAA football team and start in that hit weekly sitcom “Mike and Molly” is beyond me. Just wow.

That money is probably just coming from his now defunct Twinkie/Ding Dong budget…

That picture needs a caption.
Students basically get into the game for free anyway. I’ll probably take the 25 minute drive tomorrow and tailgate. Supposed to be an awesome afternoon. 60 degrees and sun.

At least Mangino had the courtesy to cover up with two big of clothes and look classy doing it. Weis shows off that gunt.

This is all class right here.

two big of clothes
Should be two sizes too big. Thinking of Mangino flustered me.

Students at my alma mater pay general student fees up front, but they can go to any athletic event they want without getting a ticket. They just have to have their student ID card.
And yet our attendance still blows.

Wow.
They were more than that when I was at Auburn and that was a few years ago.
And I’ve heard now they have a lottery and if you win, you get the pleasure of purchasing tickets for half of the home games and at a pretty steep price.
/insert “but you must leave before halftime” joke here.

This is how bad attendance is at SMU games: the Athletic Department has gotten some rich alumni together to donate school buses to bus in underprivileged (read: not white) elementary school students from south Dallas to attend games on campus in lillywhite University Park.
So, is this as awful as sounds like it should be?

meh.
Funny, my kid is 12 and I’ve never taken him to a football game.
I’ll never forget, once when I was about 11-12…
Phone rings (land-line, btw).
Dad picks up.
“You’re asking me to donate money for kids to go to a circus?”
“Are my kids invited?”
“Because they’ve never been to the circus.”
“Because I can’t afford it.”
“So can my kids get on your list?”
“Hello? Hello?”

Sounds about right. It’s SMU athletics, after all. Not exactly compelling stuff.

Hitting the ceiling at 6-8 wins a year will do that after awhile.

And yes “SMU athletics are shitty aside” does that strike anyone as incredibly patronizing?

Are student tickets not free there? MS
No. But, they aren’t that expensive. Back in the mid-90s when I was in school, I paid $85 for all the football and basketball games and the Kansas Relays. I’m not sure what it is now, but it can’t be much.
Plus, all the students buy the deal for the basketball tickets. There will be a ton of students that have football tickets and will just give them away.

I have a friend with a kid on scholly there at SMU getting med school paid for. If it wasn’t for Craig James, I’d actually be a fan.
Awesome deal for the kid… one red shirt year + one medical redshirt year + 4 scholarship years = one sweet deal for making a tackle or two on special teams.

Gotta start recruiting early. SMU is going to be back with a bunch of private school players. Gotta tap into the inner city.

$150 for the sports combo. And this column was written in this decade. Like two weeks ago. Sad and hilarious. A very the Onionish headline.

There was a rumor earlier this week that June called a recruit in San Antonio and told him to start looking around as June wasn’t going to stick around beyond this year. The first response on message boards: “Wait, June talked to a recruit?”
We’re ready for someone younger, with energy. June’s low-key charm is wearing thin around here.

Yes, Charlie, that’s exactly why KU students are not going to the game between your 1-9 team and 5-5 Iowa State.
