Cam Newton has taken a beating this season. Cam has thrown more interceptions (10) than touchdown passes (8). He has more fumbles (5) than rushing touchdowns (4). The Panthers are 2-7. In September Steve Smith told him to stop sulking. A Charlotte newspaper then put him in a Hello Kitty t-shirt. The leap everyone was expecting has not happened.

This isn’t about all that stuff though. Earlier this week, Newton and his foundation gave three Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools – Bradley Middle School in Huntersville, Thomasboro Academy and Randolph Middle School – $50,000 each. He went to a school and gave an assembly for the kids and invited them down to talk about what they wanted to do when they grow up. It was a good moment in a rough year for Cam.
