Glazer just reported Ben Roethlisberger will not play against the Ravens. Line at -2.5, fwiw.
I don’t expect a blowout, but I expect the Ravens to win by 3.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
Wow. Huge upset. I heard Duke isn’t even a top 25 team!
I thought Alex Murphy would be getting more run than he has gotten thus far.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
i love the onion.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
I had it first!!
-Rick Reilly
November 14th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Did you delete the Simmons twitter hacked post? Everyone was waiting for the epic conclusion of this mystery!
November 14th, 2012 at 8:34 AM
Nice win by the seniors over the freshman. Duke was favored by 3.5, H-Town.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
agreed oregon doesn’t belong.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
The Jets cut Aaron Maybin. He had a good run for a minute last year, but was a major non-factor this season.
Well he quit his way out of Buffalo, now the Jets suck and he quits there too. Who’s going to make the mistake next?
November 14th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
Steelers still win that game by double digits. It’s amazing how many people still don’t understand how bad the Ravens defense really is.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:36 AM
Oh yeah, Kazzy. It’s gone. The 47 people who quickly told me and 12 who texted were more than enough
November 14th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
whats this simmons kerfuffle all about?
November 14th, 2012 at 8:38 AM
Also amazing: How bad Byron Leftwich is.
Last 11 meetings: only one decided by double digits.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravens%E2%80%93Steelers_rivalry#History
November 14th, 2012 at 8:40 AM
no kerfuffle. someone sent me a tweet saying, “where did his account go?
I checked @sportsguy33. Gone. Locked. Private. Wrote a quick post with a screen grab.
Didn’t see/hear (guess i was the only one) he changed to @BilllSimmons at some point yesterday.
The end.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:41 AM
oh, and for the Duke fans … yes, there will be a post on the game. just got a few other things to do.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Am I the only one who uses the twitter search and types in the person’s actual name?
November 14th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
agreed completely re: taxation of the PGA and other sports leagues classified as non-profits.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Now you can work a real mystery, like maybe is Hope Solo hot, or just soccer hot? I’d vote neither. Her “crazy bitch eyes” scare me away.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
damn, i was really hoping for a kerfuffle.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
When Leftwich has 10 seconds to throw every pass, he’ll be fine.
I’m well aware how close the previous games have been. Here’s why that doesn’t matter:
– Lewis and Webb are out
– Reed is playing with half a body
– Suggs is maybe 60 percent
– Ngata maybe 50 percent
Baltimore can’t stop the rush or the pass. They’re a dumpster fire on the road. Nothing about this matchup screams Ravens, with or without Ben in the game.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
Most popular Edmonton Oilers ice girl? Yikes. Didn’t realize horses were that popular.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
i fucking hate you, pat shurmur.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
I will eat a hat if Leftwich beats the Ravens
November 14th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
November 14th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Ed Reed could be on crutches and still have enough time to react to Leftwich’s ridiculous windup. Can’t believe that fatty will do anything on Sunday.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
Flat brim with sticker on the way to you, CJ.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
The Eric Berry scared of horses video would’ve been a cool link, J-Mac. But it was from Deadspin, so I guess you would’ve been blasted for that
November 14th, 2012 at 8:48 AM
Nothing on Rick Reilly this morning? What a douche that guy is….
November 14th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
I realize that. Do you still think Duke is not a top 25 team? There’s no shame in admitting you might have misjudged them.
I am by no means a Duke fan, btw.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:49 AM
I will eat a hat if Leftwich beats the Ravens
better specify what type of hat. a bowler would be a much more manageable meal than, say, a cowboy hat. pro tip: porkpie hats don’t taste like bacon.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
Unbelievable.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:50 AM
he’s been battling out there spencer, give him a break
November 14th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
Shocking that a food critic/snob in one of the world’s largest cities wouldn’t enjoy a place that caters to tourons.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:51 AM
i did…it’s called the bye week.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
My hat of choice
November 14th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
anyone interested in the script for what prometheus was supposed to be?
November 14th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Those Reilly posts came at a weird time yesterday so if anybody wants to continue to mock Rick R, please, fire away.
I think Steve Young looks like a hero in all this. I love the indignant disregard, giving him the hand swipe of disgust. He loathes him more than Newman hated that guy that gave him poor prices on Jerry’s LPs.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
and now i’ll have two mental images when thinking of “sharon stone burger.”
November 14th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Coherent?
November 14th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
Her “crazy bitch eyes”
scare me awaydraw me in like a moth to a flame.I know I’m not the only one.
Loved the takedown. I hate unearned hype.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
i aint gonna read it…this is all ill ever need for prometheus.
November 14th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
nods
November 14th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
i liked this article better the first forty times i read it in other places. seems like people just want an excuse to write an article hating on guy fieri rather than giving it an honest review.
in their defense, every pic of the food ive seen looks like crap.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Does seem like this guy just has it in for Guy. Although I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to stop at one of his restaurants.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Hope Solo looks like shit as a brunette. She seemed to have this alpha female thing going on as a blond but now just looks like some flyover state nobody with a terrible attitude.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
The Sharon Stone Burger hat is served on dry bundt cake.

November 14th, 2012 at 9:04 AM
Isn’t he a Former Nittany Lion?
Madonna still trying remain relevant. Please go back to your hole in the ground or hovel, whatever you call it.
She doesn’t even qualify for Buttaface
November 14th, 2012 at 9:05 AM
I don’t know, this review does a pretty good job of saying both (1) the food is shit and (2) Guy’s a douche. They could have done a better job pointing out that if you’re looking for world class food in Times Square, that’s really a you problem.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Wait, what is donkey sauce? Actually, nevermind.
That said, this store will be a success due to all the idiots who go to Times Square to stand in the background of the Today show, etc.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Or even good food, for that matter.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Its hope solos eyebrows that ruin her for me…plus no tits
Guy fieri deserves bad reviews for pushing tgi Fridays and wearing accessories! and frosging his hair. Hss practically a breast
November 14th, 2012 at 9:08 AM
I think the problem is he went to an Applebees style restaurant in Times Square and expected fine dining. This place obviously wasn’t 4 star and not on the same level as his Johnny Garlic restaurants
November 14th, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Guy, Its a freakin’ hamburger. Nobody even knows or cares who Pat LaFrieda is, or where Creekstone Farm is (if it really exists), yes and hold the Donkey Sauce.
Ok, yes he does deserve bad reviews with this drivel.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Guy is a total and complete douche, but dammit I love me some DDD.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Izzo definitely has the horses to make another tourney run. If Russell Byrd finds his stroke, I’d call it a lock, barring injury. I could also see them becoming too dependent on Valentine to create for others.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:14 AM
I masturbated to a Lobster Mac and cheese the other day.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Madonna and j-lo need to go scissor and see who has a heart attack first
November 14th, 2012 at 9:15 AM
I saw the video of Steve Young trying to evaporate Reilly with his glare and the Reilly being completely oblivious…My respect for Young shot up instantly…
November 14th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
That Ian Thorpe story was excellent.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:16 AM
Isn’t he a Former Nittany Lion?
he is. are you trying to make a broader point?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
anyone got a mid 2000′s Toyota Sequoya they can give me a good or bad review on?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Guy is a total and complete douche, but dammit I love me some DDD.
i do too, even though every thing he tastes is the “best___ he has ever had.”
November 14th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Since I don’t ever read restaurant reviews.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:21 AM
Ark: Ive got a 2002 Sequoia. 130k miles. Still works great.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Shrimp and Grits. If I grew up in the South, I’d have that at every opportunity. Dish is unheard of in Wisconsin.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
Lets try for 100!
November 14th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
I just like that at the last second, Reilly shouts out the twitter comment at the last second in a panic, like he thinks that one plug is so vital for his career.
He’s behind on his facts, slow to new media, lazy, and even his personal look is brutal. I’ve seen homeless people with better appearances. He amazingly went from a must read to the laughingstock of American sports meda. People hate Screamin A, Colin and Clueless. Everybody just wishes Rick would go away.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:24 AM
Currently have one in the shop (02/132K). Transmission broke on the interstate on way home from work. Supposed to be a problem they fixed with the trans in the 03-newer versions. Has been great to me otherwise for the 4 years I’ve had it. Gas is of course a bitch. (19 hwy/14 city, V8 needs at least 89/Plus as well)
November 14th, 2012 at 9:25 AM
That Olive Garden review from Grand Forks ND was a better review. More empathy.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Hey Senator Jersey, you ever have a trans issue, where you could put it in gear (D/R), but it would not move forward or backward? Dealer was trying to rape me and steal mine for $2,000
November 14th, 2012 at 9:27 AM
forgot to add, with the fucked transmission.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Sulaimon and Cook made a huge impact when Plumlee was off the floor for the bulk of the second half.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:28 AM
Well there’s your problem right there.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Also, Fieri is awful but his show is great and give me that over the pretentious nonsense of the dickbag judges on Chopped and Iron Chef. I’m sure that restaurant is awful but that’s not even a review, that’s just a takedown he knows would go “viral” or whatever. Restaurant reviewers are awful human beings.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Most popular Edmonton Oilers ice girl? Yikes. Didn’t realize horses were that popular.does she pass for “hot” in canada?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Tow truck guy suggested I take it to them to see if there was a recall (no luck). They said they could fix it for $4,800. I talked to a guy back home, he could do it for $2,900. He’s sending a tow truck guy today to pick it up for me, cause fuck a car dealer!
November 14th, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Speaking of the Oilers.. Geez can go to hell for saying the NHL would definitely be back December 1st.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
I’ve heard his shooting described as Redick-like. I’ll be rooting for him, since he’s one of a growing number of Houston basketball products.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Just don’t take it to a Cottman Transmission.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:33 AM
Cut Geez a break….it’s probably post concussion syndrome.
I do think they are going to be playing by Christmas.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Fuck Anthony Bourdain..He gets on my nerves far more than Guy Fieri….He just has the look about him that if you spent more than an hour with him you would want to scissor kick him in the back of the head
November 14th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
It didn’t do that, but the tranny was having issues with selecting gears. I caught it early because of the weird noise it was making. Had it dealt with for a couple hundred. Been fine except for that. And that was about 2 or 3 years ago.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Mole’s tbl style reverse jinxing last night worked
November 14th, 2012 at 9:35 AM
Bad experience?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
Agreed. Also fuck CNN for claiming to be the leader in news and hiring him.
Last week I was at a bar eating dinner and they put No Reservations on the big screen that I was looking right at while eating, as some guy cuts a pig’s throat to make sauce from the blood. Appetizing.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:36 AM
This I agree with. Dude is an insufferable prick.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
Did Adam Richman die yet? He looked on the verge of death the last time I saw him on TV with that ridiculous best sandwich in america show.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:38 AM
I also watch his show.
Hominy Grill in Charleston, SC. Awesome Shrimp and Grits.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
I once had a truck that was losing gears 1 at a time; Eventually I could only go in 2nd. You’d never seen people as pissed as those behind me in the morning rush hour commute.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Agreed. Also fuck CNN for claiming to be the leader in news and hiring him.
i love bourdain. he is awesome, and embraces his smug. didnt know he got hired on cnn? doing what?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Just don’t take it to a Cottman Transmission.
Bad experience?
I had to get the transmission on my 02 Honda Accord fixed there and it cost over $5k. This was several years ago.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Nice roundup pic EIC.
Even better, no pop up banner ad on my iPhone. Please tell me those ads have been ditched based on the fact they were ruining the mobile TBL experience.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Mine didn’t start making a noise until after it broke down. Tow guy said it was the first Toyota he ever had to pick up for breaking down.
Any guesses on the top 2 car makers he claims to tow the most?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:39 AM
Yeah. My first car was a ’96 Sable, which was notorious for transmission failure. At 100k it falls out as scheduled, they charge 2500k to put in a “rebuilt” one. It starts slipping within the warranty range so I take it back and they drive it for a day and say nothing’s wrong with it. Two weeks later the front pump seal blows, now out of warranty (had been less than a year and 10k miles) so I take it to another place, guy tells me it’s not rebuilt at all, they just threw a junkyard transmission with the same amount of miles in it and it’s amazing it hadn’t died earlier than it did. Then called Cottman to complain and they had no record of me even being a customer.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Hominy Grill in Charleston, SC. Awesome Shrimp and Grits.
82 Queen is also awesome.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Hosting their weekend show apparently.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
In Edmonton sure, city full of gold chasing degenerates desperately trying to balance their growing coke/whore/no rent control problems while sending money back home to their emotionally shattered Maritimes families.
/See would also look good in Winnipeg
November 14th, 2012 at 9:40 AM
Reilly’s career has turned into a poop sandwich. I’d feel bad if he wasn’t such a douche.
fivehead, thy name is Rihanna. At least she is smart enough to realize that she has a fucked up forehead. She does a good job covering it up most of the time.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:41 AM
Cant be worse than putting Dick Morris on your news network
November 14th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
“The main course is a $500 2 ounce steak with vinegar reduction and shrimp foam with some asparagus.”- These are the people who HATE Guy Fieri who, while I admit is a douchebag, cant be all that bad if those people hate him
November 14th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
I heard Montreal got lots of hot women. Is this true, or are they all smelly like their European sisters?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
Hey, since we’re all asking for advice today, I figured I would pose this question:
Has anybody ever applied for a management position at a company they already work for? The digital dept. I’m in is now hiring a manager and I’m going for it. Told the wife that if I got it we could finally afford a honeymoon, so she’s REALLY invested in seeing me get it.
Any suggestions on what to expect or maybe some basic heads up I should be aware of?
November 14th, 2012 at 9:42 AM
I take it back. As soon as I hit post and the page refreshes, there is the little mermaid telling me about Disney resorts and refusing to go away as my thumbs furiously try to tap the x.
EIC – please take these away. Or make the x right in the middle so at least we can make them go away.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Yeah, when you go on the honeymoon, don’t believe her claims to have broken it riding a bicycle or horse.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Shrimp and Grits
So much deliciousness. The ones at Sunset Grill in Nashville are awesome
November 14th, 2012 at 9:44 AM
In Maine we stopped at some diner we found on Yelp. 2 in the afternoon and a line out the door. Turns out It was on DDD and place was always packed since. People inside were talking about what Guy ate. It wasn’t great.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
I would put Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver over it. Montreal is more fun though and the women are wilder but they lose points for dressing like dickheads. Toronto is fairly button up in most circles on some stiff upper lip Limey residual nonsense, Montreal is way more lively, but seriously Montreal women dress like dickheads.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:45 AM
I take it back. As soon as I hit post and the page refreshes, there is the little mermaid telling me about Disney resorts and refusing to go away as my thumbs furiously try to tap the x.
Had this same problem earlier this week. This banner ad eventually went away, but I had to close out and come back to it on the iPhone.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
Guy Fieri needs to go to Bill’s Toasty in Taylorville Illinois…best greasy spoon in all the land.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I was in Montreal a few years back, and lets just say the ‘somewhat handsome’ women outnumbered the hot ones by about 30-1.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
Heldover, I worked for one company for 9 years and moved from entry level into higher management. The big warning I would give you is try to move into a management position that does NOT oversee the people you work with every day. Going from level playing field to supervisor can be a nightmare. That said, good luck.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:48 AM
clarified.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:49 AM
Is it bad that I ignored the Oilers Ice girl link until everyone started saying she was busted?
She is throwed though.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:53 AM
sweet, thanks. I’m going to look at a 2004 with 125k on it today at lunch.
November 14th, 2012 at 9:54 AM
fivehead, thy name is Rihanna. At least she is smart enough to realize that she has a fucked up forehead. She does a good job covering it up most of the time
her disgusting ugliness, among other things, knows no bounds.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Before we get carried away by Duke-Kentucky, let’s realize that Duke typically owns these early season neutral site games. Krzyzewski always has his team ready at the beginning of the year, the problem (2010 aside) has been lack of improvement throughout the year.
But let’s not frame this as “seniors” vs “freshmen.” UK has been playing freshmen for 4 years now and they’ve been doing ok for themselves. This year’s team does not look anywhere near as talented as the last 3, but there arent any great teams in CBB this year so who knows…
November 14th, 2012 at 10:01 AM
Has anybody ever applied for a management position at a company they already work for?
Ability to delegate, manage deadlines, deliver feedback, establish relationships with internal/external contacts/vendors, etc. The old “what don’t you like about the current area, and then what did you do about it?” question, what is your mgmt style, and all that jazz…
November 14th, 2012 at 10:01 AM
Make sure you supervise people in a different division. You don’t want the dynamic of having former peers report to you. All sorts of problems with that.
Try and line up some support within the company, too. Do you have strong working relationships with anyone in management now? Make sure you have examples of how well you’ve worked with them in the past.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:02 AM
USA v. Russia starting now on ESPN2 & ESPN3.com. Chandler’s triumphant return!
November 14th, 2012 at 10:04 AM
I went to this place in Folly Beach, SC (near Charleston) and had some amazing shrimp and grits. Place was called Lost Dog Cafe if I remember correctly
November 14th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
If you want a place ruined by long lines, longer food waits, and the stench of Halitosis from the mouth-breathing tourists as they repeat, “This looks sooo much smaller than it does when I saw it on The Food Network.” over and over, then, yes, by all means hope it gets covered.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Put it through the paces….drive it for 15-20 minutes, not less. Accelerate fast, brake hard, steer hard, drive over several surfaces and sweeping curves if you can. Get a good feel for it. If they won’t let you drive it for at least 15 minutes, ask why. If you re interested in buying it, get the vin and run a car fax or auto check report on the title and see the title and accident (if any) history.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:12 AM
Rihanna’s body far outweighs her forehead considerations. Shes not gorgeous but im a face guy and im ok with hers
November 14th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
Kazzy, when you put it into gear, do the RPMs still make a change like they would under normal conditions, or does it stay constant, like it was pre-shift?

Rihanna is gross. That is all

You know who’s face I’m not ok with? Channing Tatum. Sexiest man alive my ass.

I’d say it depends on the car
November 14th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
Rex, the RPMs do act normal, it just won’t go anywhere; and it also makes a horrid rattling noise as well.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:19 AM
this cannot be said enough. I’m sure the owners love the increased business but you need to plan for at least an hour to and hour and a half wait if a restaurant has been featured on DDD recently.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
had 2 yesterday.
but yes, there is another coming today.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
I don’t think any of the places local to me have been overwhelmed due to DDD. At least the ones I have been to.
Of course, random places throughout Minneapolis/St. Paul and associated suburbs are not what you’d call tourist destinations.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
So what makes Fieri such a douche other than than the way he wears his stupid sunglasses and his asshole haircut? I think the guy’s alright.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
Thanks for all the feedback. Unfortunately, the management position would be supervising folks I currently work with. I understand the warnings, but there hasn’t been a lot of upward mobility where I work (TV station) and I can’t pass up this opportunity.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Great, the more than better. Fuck that douchebag. Also wtf with Werder’s corporate apologies
November 14th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
It could work out, heldover. My hubby got the management position over people he worked with, and he’s younger than almost everyone there too. He’s done fine, no resentment.

We have a very small dept (only a few people) and we all get along. Honestly, the two people I work with most are like sisters to me. One of them is going for it too. And I feel like if I didn’t get it, I’d be happy if she got it.

I was hoping for a different answer. What does the estimate from the dealer consist of? When it goes to the next place, let them give you an estimate without knowing what the dealer says. Automatic Transmissions can be a black hole of overcharges, incorrect fixes, etc due to their complexities.
The other day I dropped the transmission on my Grand Cherokee to get to the front seal for a replacement and to replace the solenoids. For fun, I should have taken it around for various diagnosis and estimates.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:29 AM
Do you have strong relationships with the people you currently work with? Any jealousies that would come out of you moving up the ladder?
November 14th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
used vehicles>>>>>>>>>>>>new vehicles
I would never buy a brand new car, and I don’t really have the cash for something newer. why spend a bunch of money on a car anyways? if it’s reliable, that’s all I care about. that’s why I roll with Toyota.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
It’s 2012. Just tell those underlings you wont be attending the happy hour on Friday anymore and that they should look at the badge, play time is over. Any lip and they get 2 more hours of arts and crafts time. They are in your world now.
/seriously just pull them in individually on the first day, set expectations, define roles, and move on.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
We’ll start with the look, the jewelry, his fat face as his mows into a sandwich, and end with his orange Lamborghini Gallardo. Orange, dude. Orange.

See, I went the other direction. Car gave out just before Christmas last year. Total wash and got nothing for it. I looked around for used and got a ridiculous price for a new truck on New Years Eve. Didn’t hurt I got Nissan employee discount from family member too. I figured it was worth it knowing nothing was wrong with it and keeping it tuned up to drive it until it falls apart. But I could be an idiot
November 14th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Oh for sure. I bought an 07 this summer with 50K on it. I just like to buy a car that I know will last me several years.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
The dealer said the gears grinded together in the trans. Would cost $6,000 to rebuild it, $4,800 to put in a new one. Guy I trust (family friend of 15+ years), said he would rebuild the trans for $2,900. Mechanic at Dealership offered to buy it as is for $2,000, even with a KBB of between $8,500 – $10,000 with the add ons (Sun roof, leather, V8). Fuckin bastard.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:36 AM
100% truth, but when you talk about 100k when you buy it, don’t expect to run it forever. Some cars are better than others, but reality is the older and more mileage, the more likely something breaks. When one engine part is replaced with a new part, it puts more pressure on the other, older parts, which causes a chain reaction.
Toyota makes a good car, but so does Hyundai, Ford, Chevy, Honda, etc. Cars are all mostly the same anymore. In my 9 years in the auto industry I saw as many domestic cars as foreign cars with over 100, 200, 300k. I also saw brand new cars of all makes have major issues. My point: Unless you have 100% of the vehicle maintenance history (and even then no guarantees), you have no idea how well a car has done before you buy it.
/end rant.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:38 AM
ah, I gotcha. I’m just more concerned about keeping my payments as low as possible. If I can get something that lasts for 4 or 5 years with a payment less than $300/month I am fine with it.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Dont buy a car you cant payoff in three years.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
You could take the best car in America and if you hit all the fucking curbs and potholes you will have issues.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:43 AM
speak for yourself.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
This reminded me of folks like Queefer. Well put:
Obama’s campaign of drone warfare, as well as his assault on civil liberties, are very real problems, and ones the left has traditionally been at the forefront of condemning. Not so in the age of Obama, where the left-wing critique of American empire has turned into unconditional apologism for that empire, a transformation hinging almost solely on the color of the skin of the man at the head of that empire. Obama apologists may decide to continue on their path. There’s no more re-election to secure, but the work to secure Obama’s legacy is just beginning. Those people should be careful. Legacies are a tricky thing. By the time his term is over, Obama’s apologists may have secured a legacy of their own, as intellectually dishonest and unabashed defenders of a flawed presidency that was always an end in and of itself. After all, what was the Obama campaign about, other than the man himself and the othering of his political opponents?
November 14th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
I would like to get a new car. An actual new car, a specific actual new car. But that fucker costs 35 grand. Or as low as 29 grand without wheels or windows.
So I’ll keep chugging along in my overcrowded 8 year old Honda CRV. Stupid reliability.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Ooh, payments are no good. We put 8K down on it and will have it paid off before baby comes.
November 14th, 2012 at 10:51 AM
his orange Lamborghini Gallardo. Orange, dude. Orange.
his 68 camaro he rides around in on DDD is badass.
November 14th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Weird, totally agree, it is a fucking disgrace.
Obama also has been terrible:
Patriot Act
Punishing Whistle Blowers
Enact State Secrets Laws constantly
Ducking the press (MTV and the View do not fucking count)
War president and acting like an asshole.
/still super happy he won though
//End you fucking Decepticon war you cunt
November 14th, 2012 at 11:32 AM
i know i like to simplify, but really, obama supporter or not, it’s no surprise that presidents/politicians act like this, and their supporters make excuses or cover up or spin.
it seems that only in a perfect world will someone truly focused on bettering society populate congress and state houses and executive positions. because in this world, everything is compromised and favors owed
November 14th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
So does ddmc1974. Guy’s apparently got issues with the gheys.
November 14th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
Anyone have or know someone who has a Nissan Armada? Looks like a reasonable substitute for the Sequoia if you don’t want to pay 60K. They’re selling for 7K below sticker from what I’ve seen.
