Ed Werder Slammed Rick Reilly on Twitter Over Ben Roethlisberger “Report”
Rick Reilly gets paid a ridonkulous amount of money by ESPN to do…whatever it is he does. Yet, he was caught on camera last night trying to get Stuart Scott to credit him for a story he was not the first to report. ESPN reporter Ed Werder reporting on the Roethlisberger situation took a shot at him on Twitter for trying to claim credit.

Video was so awkward. Confirmed douche. Loved the look on Steve Young’s face.

Good job

too funny that automatic tweets appear on the front page of ESPN. including this.

Craig James thinks Rick Reilly is great on TV.

Jason…does the general public care who breaks a story (I know I don’t)?…why is this such a big deal about who gets the information out 2 minutes before anyone else? Is this all chest puffing among media types?
A Charles Robinson type report, I understand…but the injury report that was forthcoming anyway or the player getting cut…who cares?
November 13th, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Pretty sure Steve Young wanted to punch Reilly out right then and there.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:47 PM

Agreed. Second person to write about college kids playing pool doesn’t matter no matter how many receipts he has
November 13th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Does the general public care? No.
Does the guy who broke it first care? Absolutely.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:47 PM
what demographic is rick reilly bringing to espn that they don’t already get? people who had asubcription to sports illustrated in the 90′s?
November 13th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
Breaking routine news first is mostly chest-puffing. Not sure anyone outside media notices or cares.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:49 PM
Reilly is such a cocksucker
November 13th, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Oh he brings in a ton of people. Just ask him. He refers to himself as ‘The Sports Guy’. His twitter account claims him as the original.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Thanks Ty.

Pretty sure Steve Young wanted to punch Reilly out right then and there.
You could tell that as fast as Trent and Young made angry faces that hating on Reilly isn’t new to them. They obviously don’t like him. That was fast.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:51 PM
This shouldn’t have made me laugh but it did.

Hello friends. May I direct your attention to a true American sportswriting hero, Rick Reilly. Someone you can really root for.
/Did I do that right Spence?
November 13th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
It should be an easy choice when considering a ‘style’
Yuk yuk yuk and rich or serious and lesser known
November 13th, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Ha, that’s what I’m here for rockchalk
November 13th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
So there’s no way ESPN re-sign him, right? He’s been mailing it in for years now. That “people you see at the gym” piece was just ridiculous.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:54 PM

People who want to be sports “writers”
November 13th, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Aww, the ESPN Twitter police got him. Keep on keepin on, Ed.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
Yeah I could see how a guy like that wouldn’t have many friends in the industry.
Side Note: Embiid…rounding out a stud 2013 class.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:55 PM
I saw it first. Either give me the credit or take my twitter watching shift.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
I nominate “All Up In My Snatch” for new meta-tag that can be applied to these kinds of stories
November 13th, 2012 at 3:56 PM
Hat’s off the Steve Young, sticking up for the reporter in all of us. He had no dog in this fight, but that look … you would have thought Rick told Scott, “tell them I have a law degree.”
November 13th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
Most conflate the ability to break news (even the routine stuff) with credibility. It absolutely matters perception-wise.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
Breaking routine news first is mostly chest-puffing. Not sure anyone outside media notices or cares.
The reporters’ bosses notice.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
Steve Young’s look is priceless.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:58 PM
What I don’t know if is Steve was hating on Rick because he knew Reilly was lying about being the guy to break the story or because the notion of having to be confirmed as the guy who broke the story via twitter on live tv is just ridiculous and petty.
November 13th, 2012 at 3:59 PM

That “people you see at the gym” piece was just ridiculous.
So you’re the guy that read his last piece.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:01 PM
Every sports blog in the country had a field day with that piece. Hard to ignore.
Lost a lot of respect for Bill Simmons when he had Reilly on his podcast and acted like everything was cool between them. If you don’t want to have a feud out in public, that’s one thing. But don’t question people’s intelligence by suggesting that you two have nothing but respect for each other.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:02 PM
Breaking news: I can confirm that “reporters’ bosses” would not count as “anyone outside media”
November 13th, 2012 at 4:05 PM
Reilly and Simmons have a feud? Dang, I must get out less – I’m missing way too much.
Simmons sucks. He’s got a face for radio and a voice for newspapers.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:06 PM
how’s the pickup sce….uh baseball coaching treating you?

“”Proud to be a jayhawk” ”
I don’t want to be the grammar police, but he should probably go the grammatically route on announcing what school he is going to attend.

Simmons used to poke Reilly when Reilly was at SI. ESPN hired Reilly and Simmons got pissy because of how much money Reilly was making. ESPN forced them to do a podcast together. I never listened to it, but I bet it was uncomfortable.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:27 PM
Just two insufferable individuals there
November 13th, 2012 at 4:30 PM
Steve Young’s face/tap of Reilly on the arm + small dog nails clicking frantically on hard wood floor in background = amazing video.
I keep this.
November 13th, 2012 at 4:49 PM
Is that why Simmons changed his Twitter handle?
