Duke Lacrosse Player Painted Her Face Black on Halloween, and the Photo Ended Up on the Duke Website
This image appeared on the Duke website last week. A lacrosse player has been blogging for the team, and posted this Halloween photo to accompany the latest blog entry. The players are dressed up as characters from Little Rascals.

Bomani wants someone to be fired over this? I don’t know who is more out of touch…probably the girls for going with this very topical theme
November 12th, 2012 at 9:58 AM
This whole recent trend of posts about this is lame.

If by now you haven’t figured out that black face will ALWAYS get you in trouble, perhaps you should be punished. Seriously people, do you not know that blogs around the country anxiously wait around to expose the next idiot that puts on black face?

So 18-22 year old kids aren’t allowed to make mistakes and bad decisions when living away from home for the first time?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Don’t understand why we refer to college students as “kids”. They are adults who should by that age know better than to put on black face. Again, how by 2012 you STILL don’t know that putting on black face will offend someone is beyond me.

Duke’s SID is on top of his game.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:11 AM
So is white face an issue as well?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:13 AM
sigh. If you don’t understand why one is different than other, I really don’t want to have this discussion with you.

lol

George Wesley Huguely V up in here.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
J-Mac is obsessed with the black face. Give it a rest, little guy.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Lost in all this is the fact that these “kids” couldn’t find ONE single black person in campus to recreate the little rascals. Jesus, exactly how white is Duke?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:18 AM
It’s more yellow than white.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:20 AM
Nancy Grace is convinced that black faced kid got raped last night.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
It’s the women’s lacrosse team. As someone who has covered the sport extensively, I can tell you that there would have to be a monumental shift in recruiting strategies at a good women’s lax program to field a team that would have the amount of black players necessarily to recreate this theme.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:23 AM
I don’t think he’s obsessed with black face so much as he’s obsessed with Halloween, in general.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
On the other hand, Ted Danson will be happy to learn he can always get a date at Duke.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Who seriously was offended? I mean seriously. Like I get looking at it and saying “really?” But that’s different from behind offended. Bomani Jones was laughing about it, and that it was stupid. But was he offended?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:28 AM
I think it would be weirder to ask someone who isn’t your friend and isn’t on the lacrosse team to be part of your Halloween costume just because she is black.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:30 AM
Who cares? It’s a costume. There have been a lot of whiny, PC police posts and comments lately. I understand people like to point and shame others, but stop being so soft.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
I don’t know. Bomani seems to be offended, according to his twitter feed. But that’s neither here nor there. Yeah, people probably won’t put together a march toward Duke campus because some girl put on black face. But looking at it from the girl’s perspective, now thousands of people are shaking their heads at her. I mean, if that happened to me, I know I’d feel embarrassed.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:31 AM
question…is it still racist if the costume is a humorous commentary on the 1986 film, soul man?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:32 AM
Let’s compromise and say it would be AS weird. Bottom line, don’t put on black face.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:35 AM
Or The Two Headed Man.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Cursed – Did you see the story (i think on Gawker) about the girl who dressed up in blackface, went to a college party, and got punched in the face by a black guy?
November 12th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
This? Not black face, but equally hilarious story.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Or The Two Headed Man.
it’s just like you to link to the cartoon homage instead of the actual source material. And it’s the Man with Two Heads, not the Two Headed Man.

that’s completely legal in Barack Obama’s America. White girls getting beaten up by black guys, and nobody says a word. It’s hardworking white people that are the real minority in this country.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:45 AM
Actually it’s The Thing with Two Heads, dick.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
blackface vs. violence towards women…who ya got?
/dips nuts in mouth of passed out dude

“They transplated a WHITE BIGOT’S HEAD onto a SOUL BROTHER’S BODY!”
What a tagline.
November 12th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
O’Reilly pretty much said the same thing during election night.

Oh, I know. I’m channelling.
“They transplated a WHITE BIGOT’S HEAD onto a SOUL BROTHER’S BODY!”
you’re never going to believe this, but that wasn’t a good movie.
November 12th, 2012 at 11:05 AM
I think I saw it on Elvira.
November 12th, 2012 at 11:06 AM
That’s a great movie to watch if you’re completely loaded.
November 12th, 2012 at 11:07 AM
George Costanza would not find this weird at all.
November 12th, 2012 at 11:21 AM
Did not see that so I would like some context. Also, I’ve been punched in the face by a guy in Marietta Ohio because I “looked at him funny,” I can’t help the way I look at people.
