Carrier Classic on USS Yorktown Still on For 2013, Organizers Say
College basketball games on aircraft carriers were a disaster over the weekend, with one game (Ohio State vs. Marquette) being cancelled entirely due to condensation on the court, another halted at halftime for the same reason (Georgetown vs. Florida) and another delayed due to high winds (Syracuse vs. San Diego St.).
So scrap the idea, right?
Not so fast. Organizers of the 2013 Carrier Classic told Live 5 TV in South Carolina that next year’s event is still on:
Morale Entertainment President Mike Whalen said Monday his group and the Patriots Point Development Authority have agreed to hold the event again next year …
Whalen says organizers believe they have an engineering solution to correct the condensation issue. He’s heard from about 10 schools interested in taking part next year.
What’s the over/under on organizers being informed that this simply isn’t happening? A week? Please give me the under. Move it indoors to a military base. [Live 5]

I’ll start to care about college basketball in late December.

Syracuse would not lose if every game was played outdoors. This is just a fact.

Carriers, meh.
I wanna see teams play on outdoor courts at ESKAN or maybe Al Udeid. If you can hit threes in the midst of a dust storm, that would impress.

Meanwhile…

I wanna see them play on the ocean floor, sans scuba gear. Skins vs. sharks.

As long as there are 2 good teams on the court, I couldn’t giuve less of a fuck about the locale. Unless it’s a prison yard and they’re playing by prison rules.

The aircraft carrier game is a really neat experience, and I hope they find a way to continue it in a safe manner.

Who is your starting 5 if that is the case… positions matter, and don’t have just all-stars, etc, make it a real team.

It’s weird..they play the game in 2011 in sunny San Diego and no problems. Then they try to play outdoors in South Carolina in November and have issues.
Don’t think the carrier is the problem.
