NFL Sunday: New Orleans Looks to Turn Season Around Against Falcons
The Saints and Falcons have battled for the NFC South title each of the last three years. Their six matchups have been among the most intriguing and compelling series over that span. We’ve had five of the six end in one possession games, two by a field goal, and two more in overtime. Oh, and the only other one? That was near the end of last year when Drew Brees and the Saints kept passing so that he could set the yardage record at home.
This year has a different feel, with the Falcons having a significant advantage in the standings. The Saints are a longshot to rally to reach the playoffs, and pretty much any path must involve a win against the Falcons today. Expect an offensive shootout. The Saints haven’t stopped anyone, even giving up a bunch of yards to the Eagles but getting key turnovers and red zone plays. Atlanta should be able to move the ball at will. New Orleans will again have to make some key defensive plays to swing a series or two, a sack here, a fumble there.
If recent history is any indication, though, this one could come down to a controversial decision or a late field goal attempt.
Other Early Games:
Oakland at Baltimore: Darren McFadden is out for Oakland, so they may have to open up the passing game even more against Baltimore. The Ravens need to put together an impressive performance, particularly on offense where the matchup would suggest the opportunity is there.
Denver at Carolina: AFC West/NFC South reunion #1, as John Fox returns to Carolina. He comes in with a quarterback slightly better than Jake Delhomme.
San Diego at Tampa Bay: AFC West/NFC South reunion #2, as Vincent Jackson has been blowing up earning the money that A.J. Smith and he battled over for years.
NY Giants at Cincinnati: The Giants offense has been struggling the last few weeks converting third downs, while the Bengals have fallen to 3-5 and are in desperate need of a home win.
Tennessee at Miami: Jake Locker returns for Tennessee, but what they really need is the return of the 2000 defensive unit.
Detroit at Minnesota: What a difference six weeks makes, as these teams’ fortunes have changed since Minnesota won at Detroit to go to 3-1 and drop the Lions to 1-3. Percy Harvin is out, and so the offense which has had zero other passing playmakers (other than Rudolph in the red zone until he disappeared recently) will rely on Adrian Peterson even more.
Buffalo at New England: The last time the Bills and Patriots got together, the Bills were winning, until Tom Brady went off and Vince Wilfork’s wife got happy.

I’d love nothing more than to see the Saints end the undefeated run of the FaLOLcons today.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:55 PM
Fine with me as long as he gets in the endzone twice.
27-14 Lions.

Giants/Bengals and Panthers/Broncos are my early viewing choices.
Beats watching the Chiefs!

And then you’d be the guy that he actually kills.

The Giants suck inside the red zone.

November 11th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
Holiday just pulled a Desean Jackson.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:52 PM
I traded Michael Bush and Brandon LaFell for the hillbilly a couple weeks ago. And to think I thought I was lucky at the time.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
Buc’s D making up for the horrendous start I see. Of course the weekend with great games on I am back in Ohio helping my parents get ready to move with no fucking Red Zone
November 11th, 2012 at 2:17 PM
Another Stafford 1st half without a TD. ELITE. This guy sucks. 3 pts? I swear to God. The next time I hear some asshole talking about the Lions being 2nd in offensive yards…. All those yards come when the Lions are down big with screen passes.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
Per ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, #Panthers DE Greg Hardy will play today wearing a painted face, black contacts & calling himself “The Cracken.”
November 11th, 2012 at 2:28 PM
I don’t care what anyone says. I’m all for trading Stafford and Pettigrew for Romo, Dez and Witten.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:30 PM
Lions fan here. I would pick up Weeden when he gets cut and trade Stafford for some picks
November 11th, 2012 at 2:30 PM

That way you’ll only be pissed in the 4th quarter instead of all game long.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
or I bet Verlander could play QB
November 11th, 2012 at 2:32 PM
Romo can at least move in the pocket. Calvin would help Romo out. And it would be a new start. Would also want some picks back too. I do not want the Lions paying Stafford the richest contract in NFL history and taking up all that cap space. Fuck that.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:33 PM
So an uncatchable pass still warrants a PI call? I guess Bill Leavy’s crew thinks so. bills got hosed. Game should be tied but pats up by 7. Bills shooting themselves in foot with nearly 150 penalty yards (last PI call was bogus. Even the nfl network people were blasting it)
November 11th, 2012 at 2:34 PM
Oh and fire Schwartz and Linehan then hire Gruden. He would be jizzing his pants all the time thinking about Romo, Calvin and Dez.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:38 PM
Are we really assuming the Cowboys make that trade? If I’m Jerry Jones, there’s no way in hell I make that trade.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
Christian Ponder has more passing yards than Stafford.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:52 PM
Falcons now down 11 on the road. Lots of time left, but they are getting run over.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:56 PM
and Brees to Jimmy Graham is killing me
November 11th, 2012 at 2:57 PM
Lions need to go no huddle. And please. Throw the ball deep to Calvin.
November 11th, 2012 at 3:03 PM
The Vlad game plan works. Hire me Lions.
November 11th, 2012 at 3:14 PM
jason hanson has more fantasy points than eli.
eat a bag of dicks, manning
November 11th, 2012 at 3:33 PM
Stafford 0/8 on third downs today.
November 11th, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Rivers about to run the 2 minute drill. I foresee a checkdown pass in bounds followed by a sack.
November 11th, 2012 at 3:57 PM
Bills defense has no concept of stopping the run
November 11th, 2012 at 4:08 PM
I’m just not scared of going into NE for a playoff game at this point. I think the Texans can handle that business.
November 11th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
And another loss sealed by a Fitzpatrick turnover. Hard to watch
November 11th, 2012 at 4:15 PM
Fucking Fitz, moron.
November 11th, 2012 at 4:18 PM
That rookie WR has to be looking for the ball. He didnt even look til the Pick was made.
