Derek Dooley Fired by Tennessee, According to Two Reports
Derek Dooley has been fired by the University of Tennessee less than 24 hours after a demoralizing 4-overtime home loss to Missouri, according to two reports. Vol Quest, a Rivals site, says Dooley is gone, which is the same thing Wes Rucker reported late Saturday night.
Not a question of “if,” but “when” on Dooley. Don’t think they’ll announce anything until after a Vandy loss or after UK game, win or lose.
— Wes Rucker (@wesrucker247) November 11, 2012
This should be no surprise. Dooley will be expensive to fire and replace, but the Vols have been an embarrassment this season. The defeat dropped Tennessee to 4-6, 0-6 in the SEC. Dooley is 15-20 at Tennessee, but that masks the real stench: He’s a staggering 4-18 in SEC play since arriving in 2010.
Dooley was a curious hire to begin with, and you can’t expect the Vols to mess around with this hire and take a chance on someone who went 17-20 at Louisiana Tech (4-8 the year before he got hired).
Please feel free to tune out all the Jon Gruden noise for the next eight weeks.

think there’s any regret for firing Fulmer?

At least Auburn got a MNC out of Chizik. What a dumpster fire in Knoxville.

Not so fast. TN has scored lots of points this season on SEC teams. What Dooley needed all season was a new defensive coordinator. Bad idea to let Dooley go. Great offensive team. As good as most. If they could just muster a little defense.

Bad call TN…the team looks better than last year. Dooley needed to get rid of some of his staff. 3 coaches in 5 years? The guys don’t know whether to wind their butts or scratch their watch. Another coach, another 3 or 4 years of rebuilding the program. That’s what we need. And really, asking the question, are there regrets firing Fulmer? I hope not. He was a great coach but TN became so predictable in every play they were playing. Big mistake I’m afraid. Hope I’m wrong…would love to be proven wrong.

Interesting….who do you think hired Sunseri to coach the defense? Yes, Dooley did.
A good coach would have made a better hire. But he had to hire 7 (seven) new assistants after the mass exodus in the off season. Kinda tells you right there….those guys must have seen the writing on the wall and left for greener pasture before they got fired too. Time to end the experiment and head in another direction.

I’ve been a Tennessee fan my whole life, and I have to say, I like Derek Dooley. He’s done what I think is a good job with our team, that being said, our conference has excelled in the past few years to become better than the best..Tennessee is in a tough conference, out of conference play he did a bang up job, yeah he was 4-18 against SEC teams, but let’s look at the record of OTHER schools against the SEC probably looks a little something like 5-578 and the five wins came from Kentucky
all that being said, I hate they fired Dooley..I liked him.

He’s not a slimeball like Kiffin and I liked his orange pants.

Considering the circumstances at Tennessee when he took over, coupled with his lack of experience at a big time program, Dooley deserves one more year. Each year his teams have improved considerably. Tennessee has rarely been blown out, and many games have gone to the wire. It is simply a matter of closing the deal. Sometimes the hardest thing for a team is to learn how to win, which could come with experience and a fan base that supports him.

I can’t believe some of you Tennessee fans!!! Come on, Dooley may be a great guy but…what has happened to UT. I love to hate you. I used to really look forward to the long time rivalry. It was always throw the record out the door. Now, the program is non-existant. I can’t believe that the fans have put up with this pitiful excuse for so long. You have accepted this. Come on guys let’s get this fantastic rivalry going again. By the way I also have a love/hate with that darn Rocky Top as well .

All this does is guarantee the top SEC schools in the east and west wins for at least the next 4 years. Enjoy the bottom of the SEC and the SEC east division for the next 4 years. Schools like Fl, Ga. SC are going to schedule TN for homecoming very soon.
