8-Team College Football Playoff is Closer Than You Think
For those asking, a number of ADs privately figure playoff will expand to 8 teams halfway thru upcoming deal. Too much money on table
— Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) November 8, 2012
This should surprise nobody. Scenario: Year one of the playoff goes as everyone expects it to – ratings up, excitement up, and most importantly to the rich suits, the money flows. (The players, who are responsible for all the success, get nothing; that’ll be the next issue tackled in college sports.)
Everything improves in year two. You don’t think by year three – maybe 2017/2018? – they’re looking to double profits by adding four more teams? An 8-team playoff is ideal, and one this site favors over all others.
It’s inevitable. How would an 8-team playoff look this season? Funny you should ask …
The two at large teams: Notre Dame, Georgia
Alabama – SEC (1) vs. Nebraska – B10 (8)
Oregon – P12 (2) vs. Boise State/Fresno/San Diego St. – MWC (7)
Kansas State – B12 (3) vs. Florida State – ACC (6)
Notre Dame – AL (4) vs. Georgia – AL (5)

Um, where’s Florida? You know, one of your at-large teams?
November 10th, 2012 at 10:25 AM
And no Louisville? Remember, you were the one saying how ridiculous it would be for an unbeaten Boise to be left out of the BCS title game, but you leave an unbeaten Louisville OUT OF THE FUCKING PLAYOFF? Seriously, non-college football fans should STFU about how great their playoff plan would be.

Still can’t find Florida. What am I missing?

Georgia beat Florida. Georgia going to SEC title game.

So, how did you originally pick Florida? And whither Louisville?
November 10th, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Or, more likely, have YOU decided that Louisville doesn’t belong. Much like someone else deciding BSU didn’t belong. I’m sure this decision is based on math, and an easily understood formula, and open discussions, and therefore is better. Right?

Looking forward to the inevitable North Dakota St. vs. Louisiana-Monroe play-in game in Dayton.

It was never about fairness, it was always about Joe Casualfan and Mark Sevenmockdrafts being able to fill out a bracket for college football.

Anyone else greatly excited about today’s murder of schmaltzy marketing gimmick Johnny Football?

Boise State/Fresno/San Diego St.
Why?
I have no issue with an eight team playoff. But I don’t want a committee to select the teams. Use whatever BCSish computer system to select the teams. No matter how many would be included from a single conference. If it is eight teams, make sure they are the best eight teams. Not some stupid conference champion thing. Nebraska would have no business being in an eight team playoff this year.

McIntyre called it and took grief for it. Gotta give credit where credit is due.
Until Bama steamrolls aTm today.

Still waiting for JMac to respond to this.

In my 11-team playoff plan, Miami is the #1 seed every year. This way, we can build a new tradition

right. Cuz the pretzel man and his anonymous ADs are in the know.

Ah. Louisville.
if you rate the MWC ahead of the Big East, then the MWC team gets in. The Big East has been bad this year, so they would be snubbed.

If one or the other is running either the veer or the run-and-shoot, I’m there!

So it’s a year to year thing as to which conferences get the auto? When is it decided? After what game? Or do you wait to answer until L’Ville is losing? I mean, we all know the answer, but just for the fun of it…
And Nebraska? How does the B1G get an auto as shitty as that conference is this year? Does Indiana get the auto if they win? Or is it only if Nebraska wins the title game?

Lollercoaster at the 8th team. Trust me, if an 8-team playoff ever happens, it would never look like this.
