Mike Brown Fired by the Lakers, His Agent Says
Mike Brown has been fired as head coach of the Lakers, his agent told Sam Amick of USA Today.
So much for waiting on the homestand, coach!
That’s an awfully quick trigger finger. Maybe Phil Jackson said he was ready to return?
Within past 24 hours, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak had pushed ownership to give Mike Brown more time before firing him, sources tell Y! Sports.

While my first guess is to scream this is all about Kobe … it sounds like ownership wasn’t happy with the direction of the team. But maybe ownership is taking its cues from Kobe? [USA Today Sports]

Pretty outstanding self awareness to use the photo from the post where you said they should do this, I love it.
This morning their ESPN LA Thick Chick kept talking about how everything was fine as long as Kobe and the players “were cool” with Brown. I guess things heated up. Either that or ESPN’s reporters aren’t as clued in as advertised.

Stan Van is the obvious choice here.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:12 PM
I think he is talking about Shelley Smith. If that is the case, best not to provide a link.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
SVG would be hilarious
November 9th, 2012 at 1:13 PM
Lakers need to trade for Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey. Send Artest and Darius Morris back.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
You exaggerate.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:14 PM
I didn’t think it was Smith, as I didn’t throw up on myself at the time, but I could be wrong.

The Lakers obviously don’t mess around. Good franchises typically don’t. Not sure it HAD to happen this fast, but it seemed like it would eventually happen so it might as well happen now so they have plenty of time to get someone new in there and get things right.
Phil Jackson?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:22 PM
Either way, you vomit, right?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Why not?
Phil may not want the headache. Who else could you bring in who would instantly command respect? Pat Riley? Anybody else?

The sad thing is, if Bengals fans heard “Mike Brown fired” out of context, Cincitucky would experience a spontaneous mass orgasm.

Everyone knows he’s in the bag for the Clips.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Up to his bad hips in it. I don’t think they make this move without already knowing their next move. It will take a few days but they already know who the next coach is.

Nothing’s more gruesome than the picture of Billie Joe on that page. God.

Stoops!
//Did I do that right?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
The same Bob Stoops that took Josh Heupel and 55 scrubs to the National Championship Game in 2001?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Of course it’s all about Kobe. They’re fucking with his legacy, man. He’s barely in the Jordan discussion with 6 titles, no way he gets there without #6.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
D’Antoni can’t do it as he just had surgery and is out for 6 weeks, according to Bucher.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
I thought Brown was just given one of those…shit. What’s that thing called in soccer where the owner says things are cool and we support the coach and he will be our coach but then fires him soon after?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
Don’t get the Stoops hate. That program was garbage when he took over. If you look at his career it mirrors what Tom Izzo has done in college hoops – both won titles in the ’00 season with a bunch of losses in BCS games/Final 4′s since then. Both guys have their teams in contention every year with few exceptions.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
Stoops gets far superior talent on his team. Izzo does more with much less.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
I wonder how that happens.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Believe it or not, there are people complaining about this.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
I’m a big Michigan honk, but if my kid had major D1 basketball talent I’d send him to MSU in a second.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
I guess Mike Brown didn’t keep his head on a swivel.
/that escalated quickly.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
So Izzo is a shitty recruiter?
November 9th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
I haven’t watched any Laker games yet this year but have watched enough Cavs games to know that Mike Brown definitely deserved to be fired.
November 9th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
I’m just saying he doesn’t get the elite one n done’s.

November 9th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
This way he gets all the credit for their success. Not saying that’s his motive, but it is the end result.
November 9th, 2012 at 2:41 PM
yeah, blame mike brown for dwight howard not being totally healthy, the bench being one of the worst in the league, and steve nash getting hurt…
November 9th, 2012 at 7:42 PM
That would be the dreaded vote of confidence.
