ESPN: If Mike Brown Has an ‘Unsuccessful’ Homestand, His Job Will Be in ‘Immediate Jeopardy’
Someone please define “unsuccessful” as it pertains to this ESPN story that just went up:
An unsuccessful homestand for the Los Angeles Lakers, as they settle into Staples Center for the next six games, would put the job of Lakers coach Mike Brown in immediate jeopardy, according to sources close to the situation.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Lakers, while having publicly expressed support for Brown in the wake of a 1-4 start, have privately grown sufficiently concerned about the state of the team to the point that management is prepared to look seriously at a coaching change at this early juncture if L.A. can’t take advantage of what looks to be multiple winnable games in the upcoming stretch.
First, the opponents:
Golden State (3-2)
Sacramento (2-3)
San Antonio (4-1)
Phoenix (2-3)
Houston (2-2)
Brooklyn (1-2)
Based on my preseason predictions, there are only two playoff teams in there (Spurs, Nets). However, through the first 10 days of the season, the Warriors and Rockets look better than advertised. Based on what I’ve seen from the Lakers so far, I’m not convinced the Lakers can go 4-2 with this slate.
Back to “unsuccessful.” So if the Lakers go 3-3, is Mike Brown cooked? What if they win ugly and lose really badly but manage to go 4-2? Reminder: Steve Nash is not walking through that door.
Another reminder: the Heat started 9-8 under Erik Spoelstra in his first season and he was perceived to be a goner. He survived. They lost in the Finals. Then, they won the title the following season.
Oh, and here’s Kobe talking to the media about the Mike Brown death stare!

True but the Heat were built to win the next 4-6 years. This LA team has two years max. Then its Dwight and the rag tags.

Mike Brown has always been the wrong man for the job. Can’t believe he was ever given the spot in the first place.

The ESPN LA lady on Sportscenter this morning gave quite the different angle, this is interesting.

Do you think he should aim for a ‘boffo’ homestand?
November 9th, 2012 at 11:39 AM
are we talking about the same Mike Brown who took LeBron and 11 scrubs to the NBA Finals a few years back?
November 9th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
While I am always amused to see the Lakers lose the way they’ve been losing, isn’t it a bit premature to be calling for Brown’s head?
November 9th, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Didn’t it help Spoelstra to have Pat Riley’s support in the front office?
Does Brown have that same support?

So any good CBB games on today?

This had much more to do with Lebron, than Toothface Brown. When they went up against a real good coach in the Finals (Pop), they got swept rather embarrassingly 4-0.

yea…we’re talking about the one that couldnt figure out how to design a halfway decent offense to save his life who received the death stare from lebron numerous, numerous times.
cmon lawya.

Terps v. Kentucky tonight

Are we talking about the same Mike Brown in this post title?

I’d be surprised if they don’t do at least that well against that sorry slate of opponents.
November 9th, 2012 at 11:52 AM
They have been getting beat convincingly by a similar slate of opponents. Unless a magic lightswitch comes on. Thats a 3-3 homestand.

It’s my understanding that it was unanimously agreed upon that whomever came out of the Leastern Conference during those “lean” years was a 6-seed, tops, in the Bestern.

UConn/MSU and OSU/Marquette as well.

Fraudiest frauds in CBB history Duke v. Georgia State, too.
Will be a good game because Duke loses by thirty at least.

Bruce Weber would make an excellent replacement for Mike Brown.
November 9th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
Bruce Weber? The guy who was fired at Illinois?
November 9th, 2012 at 12:03 PM
what about rich kotite?
/assume we’re just naming shitty coaches now
November 9th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Bruce Wayne would make an excellent replacement for Mike Brown.
/fixed for awesomeness sake

Billy Gillespie is looking for a job.

Typical ambiguous story from the four-letter network.
Now, all their shows will build in five minutes with “Brown reportedly on the hot seat if Lakers don’t have successful homestand.”
They reported it, so they can now comment on it.
It is vastly inane, but he LCD will eat it up.

Oops, forgot to turn on the “sarcasm” light.
November 9th, 2012 at 12:30 PM
Yep… same guy! Pretty easy to call up plays for the best ever and 11 scrubs.
November 9th, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Gary Williams to the Lakers

TBL – May 2012 (Thanks MP!)
Are we talking about that Mike Brown too?
/Mike Brown is a popular name
//Maybe this is a different Mike Brown

The Cavs were the perfect team for Mike Brown, LeBron and scubs…no offense needed. Now you have 3.5 HOF’ers and you need some direction; he is fucking lost, like that dude on the sailboat in the painting in Good Will Hunting…
