Thursday Night Football: Andrew Luck and the Colts Cannot Afford Another Loss to Jacksonville
Indianapolis is amazingly in playoff position at 5-3. They are a flawed team, but one that has played well in key moments. When you are the only team that Jacksonville has beaten, and it was at your home, well, you know that you cannot overlook this one.
If we are projecting what it will take, the answer is that 9 wins likely does it (they own the tiebreaker over Miami now) and 8 wins is at least in the mix. Well, when you look at the schedule, you get a split. On one side, you have the Jacksonville game, home games against the Bills and Titans, and a road game against 1-7 Kansas City. On the other side, you’ve got games where the Colts will be underdogs: Houston 2x, at Detroit, and at New England.
Basically, in this week of swing states, this is a swing game, because the Colts need to win at least 3 of the 4 “easy” games, and cannot drop the first.
Indianapolis comes into this one with both starting corners out. Will Jacksonville be able to take advantage? Well, Blaine Gabbert got to go against the Bengals when they had both corners out, and went 23 of 34 for 186, less than 6 yards per attempt, so it’s not automatic that he can take advantage. The Colts will need their defensive front to apply pressure, though, to keep Gabbert’s eyes on the rush.
Jacksonville is one of the worst teams at stopping backs, and we just saw the daunting duo of LeShoure and Bell light them up. The Colts have one of the worst rushing attacks in the league, and in the first matchup, the backs only managed 23 carries for 74 yards (Andrew Luck accounted for 50 yards). Indianapolis will need more contribution from the running game here, or Andrew Luck will be going it alone and facing third and longs (admittedly, an area he has excelled) more often.
The Line: Colts by 3
The Pick: Are the young Colts ready to handle increased expectations? The only other game they were favored this year was the first one against Jacksonville. The Colts are 5-1 in close games, and have yet to win a game by more than 4 points in regulation (they did beat the Titans on a touchdown in OT).

Nice porn stache Blaine, guessing it took you several weeks to grow that.
November 8th, 2012 at 8:36 PM
Andrew Luck is already so much better than Matt Stafford. Look at that movement in the pocket. Hillbilly would’ve just throw that ball out of bounds or into the ground with that pressure.
November 8th, 2012 at 8:43 PM
Reggie Wayne dropping one, not getting another that even though was tipped, sure looked catchable. Come on old guy.
November 8th, 2012 at 8:44 PM
That old guy who blew Peyton’s 2nd SB win just got a 20 yard game.

That old guy who blew Peyton’s 2nd SB win just got a 20 yard game.
That was the last game I bet on.

got a story from today that reads like a scene from a surrealist novel:
me and the twins were leaving target when a lady asked me to help her. older lady. so i took off my pant…
wait, different story
so she asked me for help. she had one of those kid mirrors you put in your car and couldn;t get off the mfing plastic ties that hold it to the cardboard.
she wasn;t sure how to use the multi-tool pocket knife her husband kept in the car, so she wanted me to use it. it was silver, and it had three initials on it
mine, exactly. JAB
i asked her the last name figuring this is crazy enough right now, would not be shocked if the guy had the exact name.
it wasn;t, but pretty wacky huh?

Hola, TBLAD funk mob!
?
Yep. I’d be kinda intrigued.
Smallie, I’m in for story time. Hit me!
November 8th, 2012 at 10:02 PM
I was fully expecting you to rape that lady in front of your kids. It had a good story. I thought the coincidence was going to be your dad did this to her as well, but left that knife there when he did it 40 years ago.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:03 PM
I was expecting some more edge.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:03 PM

My wife is in advertising sales, for a newer company that is expanding. She is the lone outside sales rep in her territory, but they have wanted a 2nd person from the day they hired her last year. 1st guy they hired quit after 3 months for a different job. 2nd guy they offered the job to declined.
In the meantime, my wife referred a friend of ours to the job to be her market partner. She went through 3 or 4 interviews, and was offered the job aout 3 weeks ago. When she accepted the offer they told her the earliest she could start is this coming Monday.

So or friend told her current employer she was going to be leaving, and that her last day would be tomorrow. This is 3 weeks ago, and she already had a vacaton to mexico planned, so she was going to work 1 week, have 1 week in mexico, and come back for a week before leaving for the new job.

Well, Hurrican Sandy happened, and delayed her vacation for almost a week. This week, after the delay , she and her husband finally got away for the vacation, while my wife’s company has their semi annual sales conference.

Today, my wife’s manager told her that the district manager for the northeast decided that they were no longer going to add a 2nd sales rep to her territory, but they were having a hard time getting ahold of the girl they had already offered the job to (our friend) and since my wife referre her, wanted to know if she had any other way to get ahold of her.

November 8th, 2012 at 10:12 PM
Since our frind was in mexico, she had her phone off, and that’s why they couldn’t get in touch with her to let her know that the job she had been offered, and hat she had accepted was no longer available.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:12 PM

November 8th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
Ark St have been gambling gold these past few weeks. Shouldve thrown more on them.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:14 PM
So our friend, who has already notified her job (of 5 years or so) is coming back from mexico to the new job no longer existing. And since the higher ups who made the decision are still at their sales conference, they won’t be able to call the girl until tomorrow afternoon, to let her know she won’t be starting her new job Monday after all.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
So my wife has to tell her tonight, so that she can try to salvage her old job tomorrow, which is supposed to be her last day.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:16 PM
Dumb move turning off the phone or not checking her email daily.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:16 PM

November 8th, 2012 at 10:17 PM
Great movie. Didn’t Michael Douglas have like throat cancer?
November 8th, 2012 at 10:18 PM
Pretty sure that’s correct
November 8th, 2012 at 10:19 PM
I wish someone would have told me ULM’s QB was hurt prior to me putting a bet on them tonight. Might has well just set my money on fire.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:20 PM
I only need 2 scores and a 2 point conversion in 2 minutes to get a push
November 8th, 2012 at 10:21 PM
That’s on you bro. Wanna hear something crazy? For the past 5 weeks I’ve gone 11 for 20 on CFB games ATS in my yahoo league. I’m usually just guessing on most games but still come out on top by 1.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:22 PM

Smallie walks in and says I got a sales pitch for you. A sales pitchin’ a motherfuckin tent.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:25 PM
That was a bad pick-6. Eleven yards??? Jacksonville, you still need a QB.

November 8th, 2012 at 10:31 PM
I only need 2 scores and a 2 point conversion in 2 minutes to get a push
Where’s Full Point when you need astronomically destined-not-to-happen odds? 47 turnovers. 13 blocked field goals. 324 points. And about 8,000 yards. All in the 3rd quarter.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Oh I know. I feel stupid for not checking/seeing that.
Last week ended a stretch where over a month I went 34-14 ATS on NCAA. I cleaned up.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:33 PM
Smallie closes on this woman. A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention – Do I have you attention in my wife? Interest – Are you interested in a three way? I know you are, because it’s fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision – Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
Are you interested in a three way? I know you are, because it’s fuck or walk.
Why have I never thought of that?
/Pulls out notepad
November 8th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
That sales lady is going to wake up like Willie Mays Hayes in training camp, her bed has been moved out into the parking.
/cut already.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
So this girl gets back into the country about an hour ago, and my wife had left her messgaes to call right away. Turns out, her company had emailed this girl Tuesday to give her an itinerary for training that was supposed to start Monday. They only decided in the last 2 days (3-4 business days before she was supposed to start) that they weren’t going to hire her after all.
Pretty fucked up if you ask me.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
Pretty fucked up if you ask me.
uhh…what was?
November 8th, 2012 at 10:37 PM
stand to lose both fsu bets but win both indy bets

November 8th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
so basically obama winning and now your wife unemployed.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
Close, but not quite Leo Tolstoy.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:39 PM
so basically obama winning and now your wife unemployed.
Wife’s friend is unemployed.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:42 PM
So long story shorter, our friend got off a plane from mexico tonight, to find out she didn’t have the new job she was supposed to start, after she had already quit her old job, and when she got home she opened her door, saw her cat on the floor, and everyone walked the dinosaur.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Just tell your wife’s friend she can have my job. It has all the benefits in the world:
1. Low pay
2. No feeling of self-worth
3. A shitty fucking schedule
November 8th, 2012 at 10:43 PM
Smallie, that stinks. That company shoulda known better. They really messed that woman around with their wishy-washy ways.
And of course there is no recourse.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:44 PM
since my wife referre her, wanted to know if she had any other way to get ahold of her.
You wife should just say no. I can’t get her.
But she should call her any way.
Dick move at the 11th hour.
/I get to fire someone tomorrow
November 8th, 2012 at 10:46 PM
That’s the worst part. What kind of company hires someone and 3 days before they start decides they’re not hiring after all? A coupe of days i could sort of unserstand, but almost 3 weeks later is messed up.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:47 PM
I managed a team of salespeople for a long time, and the worst part about being in a manager/leadership role is having to fire people. Doesn’t matter if they are underperforming or not, letting someone go is not an easy thing to do.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
So what the hell is this walking the dinosaur shit?
November 8th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Any body has IT experience and wants to work in the north atl burbs, I got work.
Just don’t be a dick or you’ll get fired.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:49 PM
squawk, wife’s more concerned with tryig to help the girl be prepared to try and save her old job, so she’s going to talk to her tonight. Not an easy conversation for her to have.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:50 PM
letting someone go is not an easy thing to do.
… unless they’re a contractor.
/I’m a contract consultant but have to hire/fire

world war z trailer is officially a travesty
November 8th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Firing people is not the best. Knowing you are ditching people that are wrecking your company seems okay until you have to go do it. A lot of people have kids and what not and that can be unpleasant. But some people have no ability to quit and improve their job even if they hate it. I’ve seen this a ton. It’s like the guy that wants to do so he points his gun at a cop. They just want somebody to do the dirty work for them. I mean most times for poor performance, these people are aware they are the lowest performaers and possibly this job isnt ideal for them and they do poorly for over a year or longer and dont even brush up their resume.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
world war z trailer is officially a travesty
well. fuck.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:54 PM

fast zombies and no story resembling the book. assholes shoulda just called it something else entirely
November 8th, 2012 at 10:57 PM
Wow, FSU went from choking to winning real quick.
Worked for a big company in Colombus that laid off like 15% of the workforce one morning, mostly people with too much experience and making too much for their mid-level position, people with lots of years. That was a really fucked up day.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:57 PM
SWEET! Just pulled a push out of my ass on the O/U in the FSU/VT game. Looking like 1-1-1 for the night (unless Indy somehow blows it).
November 8th, 2012 at 11:01 PM
Not sure if that VT receiver got a foot in bounds or not but how does FSU leave him by himself that far down field?
November 8th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
Wow, you fucking suck Logan Thomas. Another pick.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:02 PM
Doesn’t matter – pick by FSU.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:04 PM
So what are your thoughts on the Tribe moving Choo and Masterson? Only if they get back huge haul.
Well they shoulda moved Choo at deadline. I’d make an aggressive offer to Masterson. If they are going to nuke the team and look to compete in 2018, well, they better fire Antonetti and get a real baseball guy trading for prospects. In my mind, last year was the profound failure of ownership and mgmt and this shit is all postlogue.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:07 PM
Fuck that. A good firing every so often to keeps the rest of the troops motivated.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
Fuck that. A good firing every so often to keeps the rest of the troops motivated.
I definitely agree. Once fired the craziest woman at the office. She reacher in her purse for tissues. Pretty much assumed she was bringing out a .38 to finish me.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
God fucking dammit. Before they made that Ubaldo trade, I thought 2012 was gonna be a good year. Now, I’m just frustrated. I think they could make some moves by adding a DH and 1B and some RH bats and compete. But… Fuck Dolan. I’m tired of the rebuild and wait.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:15 PM
I won’t argue the importance of firing underperorming employees. It’s rarely a surprise and can definitey help keep therempoyes honest and motivated, but that does’t make it easier.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
Wow, can’t type at all on this laptop. *help keep other employees
November 8th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Yeah roeth same here. Salvaged a push from the 2pt conversion. the spread i lost buy will win both indy bets
Luck winning respect after that hit
November 8th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
I co-op’d for a Fortune 50 company while in college. Worked in the HR department. They decided to slash 4000+ jobs while I worked there. For weeks, I’d get inter-office envelopes which contained the names of the employees in different departments that were getting axed that particular day. Damn do people that have worked somewhere for 15+ years at 50+ hours a week cry when they realize they’re not nearly as important as they think they are.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:18 PM
The day they let the fucking Twins outbid them for Josh Willingham was the day the Dolans killed this era of Tribe baseball. Fucking assholes.
There is no reason DET and MIN should be destroying us in the player acquisition market. Dolan has destroyed the franchise.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
More layoffs are coming nation wide. Everyone should’ve voted for Gary Johnson…
November 8th, 2012 at 11:21 PM
You mean they didn’t
November 8th, 2012 at 11:22 PM
How about Beltran? I know that was a pipe dream. But money talks. I’m down with trading Choo but they better get a huuuuuge ransom for him. I’ve heard what the D-Backs want for Upton. Tribe better get a similar haul. Because he’s much better.
November 8th, 2012 at 11:22 PM

The day the gave away Cliff Lee (WITH MORE THAN A YEAR ON HIS DEAL) destroyed the fanbase. Failing to get Willingham or be serious last season killed the team. Opening Day 2014 there is going to be only about 3-4k season ticket holders and attendance wont hit 10,000k average in 2014.

I really want to know why 3 million repugs didn’t vote. Did they die or just not vote for Romney because he was Morman or because they saw no difference between him and Barry.

I’m in the opposite situation. Given our expanding family (2nd kid on the way), we’ve outgrown our current house and now I’m essentially starting over with payments instead of having this house paid off in 7 years. We’ll probably get a 30 year loan, but provided things are going well make the payments to pay it off in 20.

They needed to get Drabek in that deal. The other CC getting tommy john sucks. Donald is a utility guy. Marson is a back up C.

DET is still a top 10 market, and has a decent national following. Plus having an owner that’s on his death bed and willing to spend some cash rather than leave it as an inheritance helps.

JAX went to Henne huh. The Blaine Gabbert era is over. Perhaps Pioli can trade for him.

What do you think of acquiring Upton? I think it’s dumb considering the haul they want. They should just sign Hunter.

Fewer voters in some places. The nice conservative poll I vote at had a higher voter turnout percentage than four years ago, yet had a lower number of overall voters.

Horrible idea. They need solid role players, not a massive head case.

I’m pissed that the emergency manager vote failed. But yeah. The Republicans need to make drastic changes. Embrace the Libertarians. Drop the social issues.

The Cleveland metro area is adaquate too. The point is the Tigers were a fucking nuclear shithole threatening to lose the most games in MLB history and some steady front office work and committed ownership has them obtaining players like Fielder and always competing. I am a huge tribe fan, probably saw 30 games in 2007. I will still probably go to about 8 games a year. But they have undeniably one of the worst owner-gm combos in mlb. they could have the resources of the yankees and dolan and antonetti would struggle to win 80 games.

Tribe need a new owner. I wouldn’t blame the GM.
